Esta vez el blog es sobre un viaje privado para ver grandes rapaces que el cliente quería ver y fotografiar estas impresionantes aves a mediados del mes de octubre. Para ello decidí ir a la Sierra Oeste de Madrid.

This time the post is about a private trip to see Great Raptors that the client wanted to see and photograph these awesome Birds in mid-October. So I decided to go to the Sierra Oeste de Madrid.

El tiempo fue muy bueno aunque algo caluroso para esta época del año y más ventoso que las predicciones meteorológicas.

The weather was very good although somewhat hot for this time of year and windier than foreseen.

Al poco tiempo de comenzar la excursión pudimos ver la primera águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti). Fue una pena que pasase bastante lejos y que no cicleara para poder observarla mejor.

Shortly after starting the trial we could see the first Spanish Imperial Eagle. It was a shame that it went quite far and did not cycle so we could observe it better.

Durante toda la jornada vimos arrendajos euroasiáticos (Garrulus glandarius). Ninguno quiso que le sacáramos buenas fotos.

During the whole day we saw Eurasian Jays. None wanted to be photographed.

Este fue uno de los primeros buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) que vimos.

This was one of the first Black Vultures we saw.

Más adelante vimos la primera águila real (Aquila chrysaetos). Este es un macho que lleva varios años por el lugar.

Later we saw the first golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos). This is a male who has been around for several years.

Y al poco rato se levantó la hembra que es un remplazo de la del año anterior que desapareció y ahora

está emparejada con el macho.

And soon the female show up. This one is a replacement for the one from the previous year that disappeared and is now paired with the male.

Como se puede apreciar es una hembras subadulta en plena muda. Esperemos que esta hembra tenga más suerte que la anterior y no desaparezca pues la anterior no era muy vieja y la pareja tenía éxito en sus reproducciones. Creo recordar que hace tres años sacaron dos pollos adelante.

As you can see it is a sub-adult female in full molt. Hopefully this female has more luck than the previous one and does not disappear because the previous one was not very old and the couple was successful in their reproductions. I remember that three years ago they raised two chicks successfully.

En la zona del primer avistamiento decidimos esperar para ver si alguno de la pareja retornaba y podíamos sacar mejores fotos. Tuvimos suerte con el macho pues regresó y más cerca que la vez anterior. Sin embargo la hembra la volvimos a ver pero más lejos que la vez anterior.

In the area of the first sighting we decided to wait to see if any of the couple returned and we could take better photos. We were lucky with the male as he returned and closer than the first time. However, we saw the female again but further than the previous time.

Continuamos con nuestro paseo y vimos a este juvenil de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti).

We continued with our walk and we saw this juvenile of Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Y a este otro adulto.

And this other adult.

Este macho de Trithemis annulata llamó mi atención.

This Violet Dropwing caught my eye. 

Un macho de roquero solitario (Monticola solitarius).

A male of Blue Rock Thrush.

Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus).

Griffon Vulture.

Y el tercer acercamiento del macho de águila real (Aquila chrysaetos) que la tuvimos muy cerca.

And the third approach of the Golden Eagle male that he passed had very close.

Después nos fuimos a almorzar a un merendero y nos acompañaron los rabilargos ibéricos (Cyanopica Kooki).

Then we went to a picnic for lunch and the Iberian Magpie accompanied us.

También los gorriones comunes (Passer domesticus) estaban esperando para ver si sobraba alguna miga que comer. En la foto una hembra.

Also the House Sparrow were waiting to see if there was any crumb left to eat. In the photo a female.

Mientras comíamos vimos algunos mosquiteros comunes (Phylloscopus collybita) que ya han llegado para pasar el invierno con nosotros.

While we were eating we saw some Common Chiffchaff that have already arrived to spend the winter with us.

Después del almuerzo tuvimos mucha suerte al poder contemplar como bastantes buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) comenzaron a ciclear para irse a otro lugar.

After lunch we were very lucky to be able to watch how many Griffon Vultures began to circle to go somewhere else.

Otras aves impresionantes que llegan a alcanzar una envergadura de 2,65 metros. No está nada mal.

Other awesome bird that reach a wingspan of 2.65 meters. It's not bad at all.

Luego nos fuimos a otros lugares para ver si podíamos localizar otras águila imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti). En nuestra primer parada vimos a este ejemplar que me hizo gracia que cuando le estaba sacando fotos un avión pasaba por encima suyo.

Then we went to other places to see if we could locate other Spanish Imperial Eagles. In our first stop we saw this specimen that I find funny that when I was taking pictures of him an airplane was passing over.

Another of our beauties that cross the skies of the Community of Madrid.

Luego fuimos en busca de las águilas perdiceras (Aquila fasciata) que no las pudimos ver. No me extrañó mucho pues la hora en la que fuimos no era la mejor. Sin embargo, un par de buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) pasaron por encima nuestro.

Then we went in search of the Bonelli's Eagle that we could not see. I was not very surprised because the time we went was not the best one. However, two Black Vultures passed very close above us.

Sus 2,85 metros de envergadura la convierten el el ave de mayor envergadura de España.

Its 2.85-meter wingspan make the larger the bird of Spain.

Y para finalizar el día nos fuimos a otro de los territorios de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) que conozco. La suerte nos acompañó y pudimos ver a la pareja. Uno de ellos andaba en busca de conejos por la zona. La otra estaba en lo alto de una torre eléctrica pero demasiado lejos para mi equipo fotográfico.

And to end the day we went to another of the Spanish Imperial Eagle territories that I know. Luck accompanied us and we could watch the couple. One of them was looking for Rabbits in the area. The other was on top of an electric pylon but too far for my photographic equipment.
