This week I show you some of the Birds that we could see on a private two-day trip through the Community of Madrid at the end of February.

The first day I selected the Sierra Oeste and for the second the Valle del Jarama. With these two places we were able to see a great Bird variety.

Primer día: Sierra Oeste.
First day: Sierra Oeste.

On both days the weather was not good and even on the first it rained for more than half an hour. In the second the most annoying thing was the strong wind. Despite these drawbacks, client was very satisfied.

Of the large Birds of prey, the first thing we could see was this pair of Spanish Imperial Eagle.

After a morning downpour, there is nothing better than drying your wing feathers to go out looking for food. In the photo a Black Vulture.

And in this one the Griffon Vultures.

A little later, when everyone had dried up, a pair of Golden Eagles appeared.

Son impresionantes.
They are awesome.

Some Red Kites were also seen.

Y muchos buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) aunque odos a bastante altura menos este.
And many black vultures although all very high except this one.

Otra pareja de águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti).
Another pair of Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Of all the ones we saw, this was the one that came closest to us. They are spectacular.

Luck was with us and we were able to see one of the few adult Bonelli's Eagles  that have been successfully reintroduced in this part of the Community of Madrid.

During our walk we were able to observe many Montesinos scribes (Emberiza cia) although none wanted to be well photographed.

Then we went to eat at a picnic area. While we had our lunch this Winter Wren was entertaining us.

It seems incredible that such a small bird can sing so loud.

In this place we could also observe another pair of Iberian imperial eagle.

Algunas parejas de buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) estaban incubando.
Some pairs of Griffon Vultures were incubating.

And in our last destination of this day I could only photograph this European Nuthatch.

Segundo día: Valle del Jarama.
Second day: Jarama Valley.

When we were going to our first observation point, I saw this juvenile Peregrine Falcon and I decided to stop along the way to see it closely.

On the trees of the area we could first hear and then locate some Rose-ringed Parakeets. This bird is considered an invasive species in Spain.

Después en nuestro primer destino había varios carboneros comunes (Parus major).
Then at our first destination there were several Great Tits.

And many Iberian Magpie. This species has recently been considered an endemic species of the Iberian Peninsula. Previously it was considered as a subspecies of the Asiatic one.

Cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus).
Common Kestrel.

As the area we were was protected from wind, some Sardinian Warblers dared to sing among bushes.

Other Birds we saw were: Song thrush.

Escribano montesino (Emberiza cia).
Rock Bunting.

Unos escurridizos picogordos (Coccothraustes coccothraustes).
Some elusive Hawfinches.

Un macho de lavandera cascadeña (Motacilla cinerea).
Grey Wagtail male.

Un macho de roquero solitario (Monticola solitarius).
A male of Blue Rock Thrush.

Muchos aviones roqueros (Ptyonoprogne rupestris).
Many Crag Martins.

And at least a couple of Cirl Bunting. In the photo a beautiful male.

Then we went to the steppe area. In addition to several groups of Little Bustards, like the ones in the photo, we were able to spot Great Bustards and some Lesser Kestrels. I did not photograph these last two species, the first for being very far away and the second for not remembering to take the camera out. Maybe next time.

A video of the Little Bustards.

Black Vultures were seen in the fields.

Así como algunas avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus).
As well as some Northern Lapwing.

To end the day we approached to the Jarama river to see what we could spot. There were more species but I only photographed these. Tufted ducks.

Hembra.
Female.

Macho.
Male.

Me encanta esta especie.
I adore this species.

Un macho de porrón europeo (Aythya ferina).
Common Pochard male.

Y varias parejas de cucharas comunes (Espatula clypeata).
And several pairs of Northern Shovelers.

I hope you are all well, at home and safe.

It is also my wish that all this coronavirus happens soon and that we can all resume our blessed routine and daily activity.

Hasta pronto.
