En esta ocasión os muestro algunas de las aves que pude fotografiar en nuestro viaje programado al Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama el 4 de noviembre.

This time I show you some Birds that I was able to photograph on our scheduled trip to the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park on November 4th.

Las previsiones meteorológicas para ese día no eran buenas pero no daban muy mal tiempo. Al final nos encontramos con un día francamente malo pues la temperatura no subió de -2ºC con una sensación térmica de -11ºC.
The weather forecasts for that day were not good, but not as bad as it was. In the end we had a really bad day as the temperature did not rise from -2ºC with a chiling factor of -11ºC.

En nuestro primer punto de observación ya pudimos comprobar que la cosa no pintaba bien pues no acudió ninguna de las aves que había previsto para este emplazamiento. En la foto un pico picapinos (Dendrocopos major).

In our first observation point we could already verify that the day was not to be good because none of the birds that were planned for this spot came. In the photo a Great Spotted Woodpecker.

Sin embargo, nos llevamos una grata sorpresa al ver a una pareja de reyezuelos sencillos (Regulus regulus) que es una especie poco abundante en la sierra y muy difíciles de localizar. Esta foto es cortesía de uno de los asistentes a la excursión.

However, we were pleasantly surprised to see a couple of Goldcrest which is a not abundant species in this Sierra and very difficult to locate. This photo is courtesy of one of the tour participants.

Una hembra de colirrojo tizón (Phoenicurus ochruros).

A  Black Redstart female.

De repente, empezó a nevar copiosamente. La primera nevada de esta temporada.

Suddenly, it began to snow heavily. The first snow of this season.

Tuvimos que irnos al siguiente punto de observación que estaba aun peor que el anterior. Después de una breve visita y ver que no había pájaros y que hacía mucho frío, nos vimos obligados a buscar otro sitio menos elevado a ver si, por lo menos, no nevaba.

We had to go to the next observation point that was even worse than the previous one. After a short visit and seeing that there were no birds and that it was very cold, we were forced to look for another lower place to see if it was not snowing.

En el mismo lugar que yo tenía previsto visitar, la semana anterior había ido con un cliente en un viaje privado a la carta y que quería fotografiar a los mirlos capiblancos (Turdus torquatus) pudimos sacar estas fotos de ellos. Una pena que no pudiésemos subir por motivos meteorológicos. En la foto un macho.

In the same place that I had planned to visit, the week before I had gone with a client on a private à la carte trip and who wanted to photograph Ring Ouzel we were able to take these photos of them. A pity that we could not go up for weather reasons. In the photo a male.

Y en estas dos una hembra.

And in these two a female.

En el valle del Lozoya, el tiempo era bastante mejor. 

In the Lozoya valley, the weather was much better. 

Ya se empezaba a notar los colores otoñales.

Autumn colors were already beginning to show.

Estaba precioso.

It was very beautiful.

Otra de las aves que queríamos ver y, si era posible, fotografiar era el mirlo acuático europeo (Cinclus cinclus). Enseguida vimos un ejemplar que salió volando en cuanto nos vio. Sin embargo, este otro estaba muy interesado en encontrar alimento y no le importó nuestra presencia.

Another Bird we wanted to see and, if possible, photograph was the White-throated Dipper. We immediately saw a specimen that flew away as soon as it saw us. However, this other one was very interested in finding food and did not mind our presence.

Me gustan mucho los matices de sus plumas del dorso que no siempre se aprecian con tanta claridad.

I really like nuances of its feathers on the back that are not always so clearly appreciated.

Para que el ave no se espantase y lo tuviésemos más cerca, algunos nos tumbamos en la arena.

So that the bird does not get scared and we have it closer, some of us lie down on the sand.

Levantaba hojas para buscar insectos acuáticos que se hubiesen escondido debajo de ellas.

It lifted leaves to look for aquatic insects that had hidden under them.

En alguna ocasión llegó a estar más cerca de 3,5 metros pues mi equipo tiene esa distancia focal mínima y me dejaba de enfocar. 

On some occasion it got closer to 3.5 meters because my equipment has that minimum focal length and it stopped focusing.

Después de almorzar dimos otra vuelta por el río y vimos más ejemplares. Pero ninguno tan cerca como el de la mañana.

After lunch we took another walk along the river and saw more specimens. But none as close as the one in the morning.

Una bonita lavandera cascadeña (Motacilla cinerea).

A beautiful Grey Wagtail.

Luego pasamos de nuevo por el puerto de Navacerrada y ya no nevaba pero el frío era intenso.

Then we went through the Navacerrada Pass again and it was no longer snowing but cold was intense.

Como cabía esperar, no estuvimos mucho tiempo pero pudimos ver varios ejemplares de jilguero lúgano (Spinus spinus). Los de las fotos son machos.

As expected, we did not stay long but we did see several specimens of Eurasian Siskin. Those in the photos are males.

Como era temprano decidí hacer una parada antes de regresar a Madrid en el embalse de Santillana. Había muchos ánades frisos (Anas strepera).

As it was early, I decided to make a stop before returning to Madrid at the Santillana reservoir. There were many Gadwalls.

Gaviota reidora (Chroicocephalus ridibundus).

Black-headed Gull.

Un confiado zampullín cuellinegro (Podiceps nigricollis).

A trustful Black-necked Grebe.

Había más ejemplares pero este se llevó todos los honores.

There were more specimens but this one took all of our attention.

Una garza real (Ardea cinerea).

A Grey Heron.

También pasaron volando varios rabilargos ibéricos (Cyanopica kooki). Claro, pasaron volando y luego se posaron en un árbol.

Several Iberian Magpie also flew past. Sure, they flew past and then perched on a tree.

Vimos varios martines pescadores comunes (Alcedo atthis).

We saw several Common Kingfisher.

Los fotografiados eran machos.

Those photographed were males.

Como es habitual, había bastantes somormujos lavancos (Podiceps cristatus).

As usual, there were quite a few Great Crested Grebes.

No están tan llamativos como en plumaje nupcial pero siguen siendo muy bonitos.

They are not as showy as in breeding plumage but they are still very pretty.

Este macho de ánade azulón (Anas platyrhynchos) llamó mi atención al ver la extraña coloración que tenía en sus flancos. En lugar de ser gris los tenía del mismo color que su pecho. Por lo demás, tamaño y forma, eran iguales a los normales.

This male Mallard caught my attention when I saw the strange coloration that he had on his flanks. Instead of being gray they were the same color as his chest. Otherwise, size and shape, he was the same as normal.

Este presenta una coloración normal.

This one has a regular coloration.

Ánades frisos (Anas strepera) en vuelo.

Gadwall in flight.

Son muy fáciles de identificar en vuelo pues su espejuelo alar blanco se ve a gran distancia.

They are very easy to identify in flight as their white speculum feathers can be seen from a great distance.

Y ya atardeciendo pudimos contemplar un numeroso bando de tarros canelo (Tadorna ferruginea).

And at dusk we were able to contemplate a large Ruddy Shelduck flock.

Pajareando por La Mancha. Birding La Mancha

En esta ocasión os muestro algunas de las aves que pude fotografiar en nuestro viaje programado en octubre a la Mancha húmeda.

On this occasion I show you some of the Birds that I was able to photograph on our scheduled trip in October to Wetlands of La Mancha.

El tiempo fue bueno aunque algo nuboso, sobre todo por la tarde, pero las temperaturas muy agradables.

The weather was good although somewhat cloudy, especially in the afternoon, but temperature was very good.

Como este año los chorlitos carambolos (Charadrius morinellus) habían llegado muy tarde, decidimos pasar a ver si éramos capaces de encontrar alguno. En la foto una collalba gris (Oenanthe oenanthe).

As this year Eurasian Dotterel had arrived very late, we decided to stop and see if we were able to find any. In the photo a Northern Wheatear.

Después de un tiempo buscándolos, cuando ya nos íbamos vimos un bando pasar volando.

After some time looking for them, when we were leaving the area we saw a flock fly by.

Un poco después tuvimos la suerte de encontrar otro grupo que estaban posados y ya verlos como es debido.

A little later we were lucky to find another group that were on land and to watch them properly.

El grupo estaba disperso pero había mas de 20 ejemplares.

Flock was dispersed but there were more than 20 specimens.

No fue nada sencillo sacarles un vídeo con el telescopio terrestre pues cuando se alimentan van muy rápido buscando alimento y es difícil seguirlos y que el enfoque no se vuelva loco.

It was not easy to take a video with the ground telescope because when they feed they go very fast looking for food and it is difficult to follow them and keep focusing.

Visitamos varias lagunas. Había muchas aves acuáticas pues muchas de las especies invernantes ya habían llegado. En la foto una pareja de zampullines cuellinegros (Podiceps nigricollis).

We visited several lagoons. There were many Waterfowl as many of the wintering species had already arrived. In the photo a pair of Black-necked Grebes.

Macho de malvasía cabeciblanca (Oxyura leucocephala).

White-headed Duck male.

Hembra/joven. Aun era temprano para saber a ciencia cierta si se trataba de un joven o de una hembra pues hasta el invierno los machos jóvenes no realizan una muda en la que parte de su cabeza ya se les pone blanca.

Female / Juvenile. It was still early to know for sure if it was a juvenile male or a female because until winter young males do not make a molt in which part of its head already turns white.

Hembra de cuchara común (Spatula clypeata). Su nombre se debe a la forma de su pico que se ensancha mucho en parte delantera.

Northern Shoveler female. Its name is due to the shape of its beak that widens a lot in its front end.

Se que se trata de una hembra pues el ojo de los machos es amarillento y aunque sean juveniles ya se les puede apreciar además del color más oscuro de su plumaje.

I know that it is a female because the eye of the males is yellowish and although they are juveniles, it can already be seen. In addition males plumaje is of a darker color than females.

Zampullín común (Tachybaptus ruficollis).

Little Grebe.

También pudimos contemplar los primeros bandos de grullas comunes (Grus grus) que estaban llegando desde sus lugares de reproducción para pasar el invierno en la península ibérica.

We were also able to watch the first flocks of Common cranes that were arriving from their breeding places to spend winter in the Iberian Peninsula.

Había bastantes aguiluchos laguneros occidentales (Circus aeruginosus). Este concretamente me llamo la atención pues es un joven que carece casi por completo las llamativas manchas beige de su cabeza.

There were quite a few Eurasian Marsh Harriers. This one specifically caught my attention because it is a juvenile who almost completely lacks the striking beige spots of iis head.

Uno de los bandos de grullas comunes (Grus grus) decidió hacer un alto en el camino en su  migración para beber, tomar un baño y descansar.

One of the flocks of common cranes (Grus grus) decided to stop along the way on their migration to drink, take a bath and rest.

En otra de las lagunas había bastantes patos colorados (Netta rufina). Ya se podian ver algunos machos en plumaje de invierno.

In another of the lagoons there were quite a few Red-crested Pochard. Some males could already be seen in winter plumage.

También había tres ejemplares de pato criollo doméstico (Cairina moschata domestica). 

There were also three specimens of domestic Muscovy Duck.

Ya en la última laguna que visitamos había por lo menos dos jóvenes de espátula común (Platalea leucorodia). Es frecuente ver ejemplares de esta especie que hacen una parada para alimentarse y descansar en las lagunas manchegas durante su migración.

In the last lagoon we visited there were at least two young common spoonbill (Platalea leucorodia). It is common to see specimens of this species that make a stop to feed and rest in the La Mancha lagoons during their migration.

Un flamenco común (Phoenicopterus ruber)  de primer invierno.

A first winter Greater Flamingo. 

Un macho de cigüeñuela común (Himantopus himantopus).

A male Black-winged Stilt.

A la izquierda una garceta común (Egretta garzetta) y a su lado una focha común (Fulica atra).

On the left a Little Egret and next to it a Common Coot.

En esta foto se pueden ver tres especies. Combatientes (Calidris pugnax), archibebes oscuros (Tringa erythropus) y una cerceta común (Anas crecca). De estas especies solo comentaros que había al menos nueve ejemplares de archibebes oscuros (Tringa erythropus). Parece que en esta laguna es cada vez más frecuente ver esta especie. En julio vi dos ejemplares que habían venido muy pronto y conservaban su plumaje nupcial. Os subo una foto que tomé entonces para que veáis lo bonitos que son en plumaje nupcial.

In this photo you can see three species. Ruff, Spotted Redshank and a Common Teal. Of these species, only comment that there were at least nine specimens of Spotted Redshank. It seems that in this lagoon it is more and more frequent to see this species. In July I saw two specimens that had come very early and kept their breeding plumage. I upload a photo that I took then so that you can see how beautiful they are in breeding plumage.

Que diferencia.

Very different.

Por si no habías podido identificar las especies he hecho estos recuadros para que os sea más fácil. Rojo combatientes (Calidris pugnax), negro, archibebe oscuro (Tringa erythropus), y amarillo la cerceta común (Anas crecca). 

In case you had not been able to identify the species, I have made these boxes to make it easier for you. Red Ruff, black  Spotted Redshank, and yellow Common Teal.

Y para finalizar os dejo con este bonito ejemplar de calamón común (Porphyrio porphyrio) que nos permitió sacarle estas fotos pues estaba muy tranquilo secándose las plumas. Una pena que no hubiese habido más luz.

And finally I leave you with this beautiful specimen of Purple Gallinule that allowed us to take these photos because it was very calm drying its feathers. A pity that there hadn't been more light.
