Parque Natural de Redes, Asturias. Redes Natural Park, Asturias.

Hola una vez más.
Hi again.

As a consequence of the Coronavirus, all our activities are suspended until further notice.

Próximos viajes. Next trips.

As travel agencies are without activity and we have a lot of time, reviewing photo folders I found a trip we made last year to the Redes Natural Park in Asturias in july.

Every year we go on the plan of several pairs of friends to make excursions through this wonderful place that brings back memories of my youth and that I have known very well from having gone there many times. It is more about walking excursions than Birdwatching but I always carry the camera with me because you never know what you can watch.

One of the birds that I have seen on various excursions to this place has been the Black Woodpecker
which is difficult to see in other parts of the Spanish geography outside the forests of the Cantabrian mountains and the Pyrenees.

I remember when I was 20 years old that when I went to these mountains I could see in almost all the excursions the almost extinct Cantabrian Capercaillie. Too bad what is happening with this beautiful species and I do not see that it has a solution.

I have uploaded some photos of this impressive place to give you an idea of how beautiful it is. These photos have not been taken this day because although in some moments the sun was shining there was also some fog.

Beech forests are awesome.

As usual peaks do not usually have trees due to the weather severity.

But if spring is beautiful, autumn colors are unique.

In this cabin I spent many days in my youth. What a wonderful memories.

As the target was not birding but rather a walk, it was easier for me to photograph Butterflies. In the photo a Marbled White.

Lobito anillado (Hyponephele lupinus).
Oriental Meadow Brown.

A little later I was able to observe, for quite some time, a pair of Golden Eagles.

It is fortunate to be able to contemplate these beautiful birds in high mountains.

And here I present to you the Black Woodpecker. In this case it is a male because as you can see it has a red head. Females have a red stripe on the nape but not on the forehead and head.

It is the largest woodpecker in Europe, reaching a length of 55 cm. and a wingspan of 67 cm.

Another Bird also limited in Spain, mainly to the Cantabrian coast and the Pyrenees, is the Marsh Tit.

This did not have very nice plumage because in June molting had already begun.

This Coal Tit was also not very pretty in plumage.

While my friends were resting after the meal, I decided to take a walk to see what I could see and I was lucky because I was able to locate one of our most beautiful butterflies the European Peacock.

There was a pair of Rock Bunting over there.

Piquitos clara (Carcharodus lavatherae).
Marbled Skipper.

Between Butterfly and Butterfly this European Robin appeared.

The fountain that he gave us to drink during lunch although we also drank some wine and some a shot of whiskey for dessert. A whole party.

All these Butterflies belong to the family of Lycaenidae and since I am not an expert in them I do not want to screw up with the identifications.

Among flowers these caught my eye. In the photo a Martagon Lily.

Clavelina (Dianthus deltoides).
Maiden Pink.

Cardo mariano (Silybum marianum).
Milk thistle.

Cuidaros mucho.
And with this photo of a Wild Strawberry I say goodbye to all of you until the next post. Take care.
