En esta ocasión os muestro lo que pudimos ver en una excursión organizada a principios de septiembre para ver al oso pardo cantábrico (Ursus arctos arctos). 

This time I show you what we could spot on an scheduled trip at the beginning of September to observe the Cantabrian brown bear.

Como los osos no suelen salir a comer en las horas centrales del día, de camino hacia Pola de Somiedo hicimos dos paradas que estaban previstas en el itinerario marcado en el folleto de venta. La primera de ellas para ver avutardas comunes (Otis tarda) y la segunda para enseñar a los cliente las grajas (Corvus frugilegus), ave escasa en España y restringida a un solo núcleo reproductor en la provincia de león.

As bears do not usually go out to eat in the middle of the day, on the way to Pola de Somiedo we made two stops that were planned in the itinerary marked in the sales brochure. The first one to see Great Bustards and the second to show clients Rooks, a scarce Bird in Spain and restricted to a single breeding nucleus in the province of León.

Nada mas llegar a Villafáfila, pudimos contemplar los primeros bando de avutarda común (Otis tarda). Durante el corto recorrido pudimos ver muchas.

As soon as we arrived at Villafáfila, we were able to spot the first flocks of Great Bustards. During the short tour we could see many.

Siempre me impresiona ver lo bien que vuelas estas pesadas aves.

I am always impressed by how well fly these heavy Birds.

Después del recorrido por Villafáfila pusimos rumbo a León. Al llegar a un punto cercano a León capital, pudimos contemplar un numeroso bando de grajas (Corvus frugilegus). Una de ellas en el centro de la imagen.

After the tour of Villafáfila we headed for León. Arriving at a point near the capital of León, we were able to see a large flock of Rooks. One of them in the center of the image.

También había mucha grajilla occidental (Corvus monedula).

There was also a lot of Eurasian Jackdaw.

De vez en cuando se espantaban y volaban ambas especies juntas.

From time to time both species would get scared and fly together.

Podéis diferenciar a simple vista las grajas (Corvus frugilegus) de las grajillas occidentales (Corvus monedula) por su mayor tamaño.

At a glance you can differentiate Rook from Eurasian Jackdaw due to their larger size.

Realmente había muchos ejemplares de ambas especies.

There were really many specimens of both species.

Hacíamos dos esperas al día tratando de ver al oso, una muy temprano por la mañana y la otra por la tarde hasta el anochecer. El resto del día lo dedicábamos a hacer excursiones para conocer los bonitos paisajes y lugares de los alrededores de Somiedo. La primera tarde no hubo suerte y no pudimos ver al oso y además nos llovió un poco.

We made two waits a day trying to spot Bears, one very early in the morning and the other in the afternoon until nightfall. We spend the remaining time of the day to see the beautiful landscapes and places around Somiedo. The first afternoon there was no luck and we could not see the bear and it also rained a little.

En la segunda espera, durante la mañana del día siguiente, tampoco hubo suerte y después de estar dos horas en la espera nos fuimos a desayunar al hotel en donde nos hospedábamos.

In the second wait, during the morning of the next day, there was no luck either and after waiting two hours we went to have breakfast at the hotel where we were staying.

Después de desayunar y comprar alguna cosa para el almuerzo, fuimos hasta los lagos de Saliencia. Al llegar vimos a este busardo ratonero (Buteo buteo).

After having breakfast and buying something for lunch, we went to the Saliencia lakes. Upon arrival we saw this Common Buzzard.

Pudimos ver muchos colirrojo tizón (Phoenicurus ochruros). En la foto un macho.

We were able to see many Black Redstart. In the photo a male.

Es una excursión de gran belleza.

It is a trail  of great beauty.

Solo vimos 5 chovas piquigualdas (Pyrrhocorax graculus).

We only saw 5 Yellow-billed Choughs.

Un momento de contemplación y descanso durante la excursión.

Aviones roqueros (Ptyonoprogne rupestris).

Los serbales de los cazadores (Sorbus aucuparia) estaban con sus bayas ya maduras.

Rowan Trees were with their berries already ripe.

Chova piquirroja (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax).

Por la tarde hicimos la espera cerca de donde habíamos hecho la excursión y esta vez hubo más suerte. No estábamos solos.

In the afternoon we waited for the Bear near where we had made the excursion and this time we were luckier. We were not alone.

Pudimos ver a un macho bastante negro que se estaba comiendo los frutos de un serval del cazador. Se veía mucho mejor con el telescopio terrestre aunque, de todos modos, no quiso salir de la espesura del bosque. Pudimos ver como se ponía sobre sus patas traseras para alcanzar las bayas e incluso romper parte del árbol a la que no podía llegar. El oso es esa mancha negra en el centro de la imagen.

We could see a quite black male that was eating fruits of a Rowan Tree. He looked much better with the ground telescope, although he did not want to leave from thick forest anyway. We were able to see how he stood on his hind legs to reach berries and even break part of the tree that he could not reach. The bear is that black spot in the center of the image.

También había dos crías de alimoche común (Neophron percnopterus) en un nido enfrente de donde estábamos.

There were also two Egyptian Vulture chicks in a nest in front of where we were.

También se dejó ver un zorro rojo (Vulpes vulpes) que estaba cazando topillos.

A red fox (Vulpes vulpes) was also seen hunting moles.

La luna salió muy temprano.

The moon came out very early.

Durante nuestra última espera, si pudimos contemplar a placar un joven macho de oso pardo cantábrico (Ursus arctos arctos). 

During our last wait, we were able to contemplate a young male Cantabrian Brown Bear.

Se paseó por la montaña que teníamos en frete durante bastante tiempo.

He wandered around the mountain in front of us for quite some time.

Después del desayuno y recoger el equipaje nos fuimos a hacer otra excursión. Esta vez elegí la senda que va hasta la Braña de Mumián.

After breakfast and collecting our luggage we went on another excursion. This time I chose the path that goes to Braña de Mumián.

Además de ver las famosas cabañas con techos hechos con escoba y paredes de piedra (Teitos), el paisaje es impresionante. Una braña es un lugar donde los ganaderos construían cabañas para pasar las épocas más calurosas del año con su ganado. Fotos de archivo.

In addition to seeing the famous cabins with broom roofs and stone walls (Teitos), the scenery is awesome. A braña is a place where ranchers built cabins to spend the hottest times of the year with their cattle. Stock photos.

Y para finalizar he subido algunas fotos del paisaje que pudimos contemplar en un bonito día de verano antes de regresar a Madrid.

En esta vez os enseño lo que pude fotografiar en una excursión que hice el pasado mes de agosto al Paraje Natural Brazo del Este. En esta época especies alóctonas están en plumaje reproductor y al ser tan vistosas me gusta mucho observarlas y fotografiarlas.
This time I show you what I was able to photograph on a trip I did last August to the Brazo del Este Natural Park. At this time non-native species are in breeding plumage and being so showy I really like to observe and photograph them.

Estuve solamente por la mañana pues a las 13 horas la temperatura ya era de 34 grados centígrados y me pareció que ya tenia suficientes fotos bonitas de las especies que quería fotografiar.
I was only there in the morning because at 1:00 p.m. the temperature was already 34 degrees Celsius and it seemed to me that I already had enough beautiful photos of the species I wanted to photograph.

Nada más llegar, ya pude ver los primeros nidos de los tejedores cabecinegros (Ploceus melanocephalus). Algunos de ellos aún estaban siendo construidos.

As soon as I arrived, I could already see the first nests of the Black-headed Weavers. Some of them were still being built.

Vi varios machos. Algunos de ellos muy bonitos aún.

I saw several males. Some of them were still very pretty.

Es un ave de origen africano que habita principalmente en África central y occidental de tan solo 12 cm de longitud. Los machos en plumaje nupcial son muy llamativos y además construyen unos intrincados nidos que tejen con vegetación y sitúan en las ramas de los árboles encima del agua y en colonias para evitar, en la medida de los posible, la depredación de estos. Esta especie tiene un acusado dimorfismo sexual en época de reproducción.

It is a Bird of African origin that lives mainly in central and western Africa, measuring only 12 cm in length. Males in breeding plumage are very striking and also build intricate nests that they weave with vegetation and place in the branches of trees above water and in colonies to avoid, as far as possible their predation. This species has a pronounced sexual dimorphism in the breeding season.

Este macho ya había comenzado la muda a plumaje no reproductor.

This male had already begun the moult to non-breeding plumage.

Me llevé una grata sorpresa al pasar cerca de donde yo estaba un zarcero bereber (Iduna opaca). Es la primera vez que lo fotografiaba bien.

I was pleasantly surprised when I passed a Western Olivaceous Warbler close where I was. It is the first time that I photographed it well.

Como de costumbre, había muchos moritos comunes (Plegadis falcinellus).

As usual, there were many Glossy Ibis.

Y algunos más cercanos.

And some of them closer.

Andarríos bastado (Tringa glareola).

Un grupo de espátulas comunes (Platalea leucorodia).

A flock of Eurasian Spoonbill.

El lugar estaba lleno de vida.

The place was full of life.

Avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus).

Vi muy pocos calamones comunes (Porphyrio porphyrio) para lo que suele ser habitual en este Paraje Natural.

I saw very few purple swamps (Porphyrio porphyrio) for what is usual in this Natural Area.

Combatiente (Calidris pugnax).

Ruff.

Un grupo de cigüeñas blancas (Ciconia ciconia).

A group of White Stork.

Cigüeñuela común (Himantopus himantopus). En este caso se trata de una hembra.

Black-winged Stilt. In this case it is a female.

Flamenco común (Phoenicopterus ruber).

Greater Flamingo.

Un adulto de canastera común (Glareola pratincola).

Collared Pratincole adult.

Y este un joven.

And this is a juvenile.

Un buen grupo de ellas.

A large group of them.

Había bastantes fumareles cariblancos (Chlidonias hybridus). En la foto un juvenil.

There were quite a few Whiskered Tern. In the photo a juvenile.

Cisticola buitrón (Cisticola juncidis).

Y para finalizar os dejo algunas fotos de machos de obispo coroniguado (Euplectes afer). No vi ni una sola hembra. Me imagino que estarían incubando.

And to finish I leave you some photos of male Yellow-crowned Bishop. I didn't see a single female. I imagine they would be incubating.

Esta especie es oriunda del África subsahariana que, debido a su belleza, mantenimiento como ave de jaula y adaptabilidad ha invadido otros países como España, Portugal, Jamaica, Japón y Venezuela.

This species is native to Sub-Saharan Africa which, due to its beauty, maintenance as a cage Bird and adaptability has invaded other countries such as Spain, Portugal, Jamaica, Japan and Venezuela.

Son aves pequeñas de unos 10 cm. de longitud con una pequeña cola y granívoras que están ligadas generalmente a zonas de regadío o palustres en donde hay bastantes plantas herbáceas. Se alimentan de sus semillas. 

They are small Birds of about 10 cm. long with a small tail and granivores that are generally linked to irrigated or reed areas where there are many herbaceous plants. They feed on its seeds.

Presenta un acusado dimorfismo sexual en época de reproducción en la que los machos son amarillos y negros. Fuera de esta época los sexos son muy similares.

It presents a marked sexual dimorphism in breeding season in which males are yellow and black. Outside of this time sexes are alike.

Para que veáis la diferencia entre los machos y las hembras os pongo una de una hembra que he fotografiado hace un año.

So that you can see the difference between the males and the females, I put one of a female that I photographed a year ago.
