Hola una vez más.
Hi again.

In the following link you can see our next national and foreign Birds and Mammals photographic and observation trips. I hope you like them and I encourage you to come with me. An experience that you will not forget.

Próximos viajes. Next trips.

This time the post is about a private trip to see Great Raptors that the client wanted to see and photograph these awesome Birds in mid-October. So I decided to go to the Sierra Oeste de Madrid.

The weather was very good although somewhat hot for this time of year and windier than foreseen.

Shortly after starting the trial we could see the first Spanish Imperial Eagle. It was a shame that it went quite far and did not cycle so we could observe it better.

During the whole day we saw Eurasian Jays. None wanted to be photographed.

This was one of the first Black Vultures we saw.

Later we saw the first golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos). This is a male who has been around for several years.

And soon the female show up. This one is a replacement for the one from the previous year that disappeared and is now paired with the male.

As you can see it is a sub-adult female in full molt. Hopefully this female has more luck than the previous one and does not disappear because the previous one was not very old and the couple was successful in their reproductions. I remember that three years ago they raised two chicks successfully.

In the area of the first sighting we decided to wait to see if any of the couple returned and we could take better photos. We were lucky with the male as he returned and closer than the first time. However, we saw the female again but further than the previous time.

Impresionante ave.
Awesome Bird.

We continued with our walk and we saw this juvenile of Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Y a este otro adulto.
And this other adult.

This Violet Dropwing caught my eye.

Un macho de roquero solitario (Monticola solitarius).
A male of Blue Rock Thrush.

Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus).
Griffon Vulture.

And the third approach of the Golden Eagle male that he passed had very close.

Then we went to a picnic for lunch and the Iberian Magpie accompanied us.

Otra preciosa ave.
Another beautiful Bird.

Also the House Sparrow were waiting to see if there was any crumb left to eat. In the photo a female.

While we were eating we saw some Common Chiffchaff that have already arrived to spend the winter with us.

After lunch we were very lucky to be able to watch how many Griffon Vultures began to circle to go somewhere else.

Other awesome bird that reach a wingspan of 2.65 meters. It's not bad at all.

Then we went to other places to see if we could locate other Spanish Imperial Eagles. In our first stop we saw this specimen that I find funny that when I was taking pictures of him an airplane was passing over.

Another of our beauties that cross the skies of the Community of Madrid.

Then we went in search of the Bonelli's Eagle that we could not see. I was not very surprised because the time we went was not the best one. However, two Black Vultures passed very close above us.

Its 2.85-meter wingspan make the larger the bird of Spain.

And to end the day we went to another of the Spanish Imperial Eagle territories that I know. Luck accompanied us and we could watch the couple. One of them was looking for Rabbits in the area. The other was on top of an electric pylon but too far for my photographic equipment.

Hasta pronto.
See you soon.

La berrea. The Red Deer rutting.

Hola una vez más.
Hi again.

In the following link you can see our next national and foreign Birds and Mammals photographic and observation trips. I hope you like them and I encourage you to come with me. An experience that you will not forget.

Próximos viajes. Next trips.

In this occasion I show you some of the photos I have taken on the Red Deer rutting in different places in Spain.

The first of the places I visited was in the Community of Madrid and this year only one day but quite good. The second part is about an organized trip that I had to Cíjara over the weekend and the third was on a private trip to Cabañeros.

In the Community of Madrid I went on September 24 and only a little while in the morning.

This was the prettiest stag I saw.

Tenía un buen rebaño de hembras.
He had a good flock of hinds.

Precioso.
Beautiful.

También vi a un buen bareto.
I also saw a nice Pricket.

And when I was leaving, because the sun was already starting to warm up a lot, I find this male Lesser Spotted Woodpecker.

And this male of Spanish Sparrow.

Scheduled weekend trip from September 28 and 29 to Cíjara:

As in the morning we could not arrive very early at our destination I decided to make a guided visit to the Centro de Estudio de Rapaces Ibéricas (CERI) of Sevilleja de la Jara because I found it interesting when I scheduled this trip. The photo shows a Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Impresionantes garras.
Awesome claws.

Of the Birds we saw, some were unrecoverable and cannot be returned to nature and others were in recovery and waiting to be released.

Había varias cigüeñas blancas (Ciconia ciconia).
There were several White Storks.

Y dos cigüeñas negras (Ciconia nigra).
And two Black Storks.

También había varias águilas calzadas (Aquila pennata) todas morfo claro.
There were also several Booted Eagle all pale morpho.

Búho campestre (Asio flammeus(.
Short-eared Owl.

Cárabo común (Strix aluco).
Tawny Owl.

Busardo ratonero (Buteo buteo).
Common Buzzard.

Milano negro (Milvus migrans).
Black Kite.

Milano real (Milvus milvus).
Red Kite.

We were told that this pair of Golden Eagles has been breeding in this aviary for several years now and that the young are used to release in the wild in reintroduction programs.

There was also an aviary with many Kestrels of both species. In the photo a male Common Kestrel.

Y en esta otra un juvenil.
And in this one a juvenile.

Los impresionantes búhos reales (Bubo bubo).
The awesome Eagle Owl.

Solo había una culebrera europea (Circaetus gallicus).
There was only a Short-toed Eagle.

And finally the vultures' aviary. In the photo an adult Griffon Vulture.

Otro.
Another one.

Joven.
Juvenile.

Y un Buitre negro (Aegypius monachus) subadulto.
And a Subadult Black Vulture.

It was a guided tour through the center of two and a half hours very interesting in which they explain the important work done by this center and in many others in Spain in terms of the study, recovery and maintenance of Birds in danger of extinction. Thank you very much for the tremendous work you are doing.

Already at our destination place the first thing that caught my attention was this Moorish gecko.

After lunch we had a talk about how to take pictures in nature and also of night photography. About 5:30 we started with the wait to see if the deer went down to drink in the swamp and eat on the banks of it. We were already hearing them but the temperature was around 30 degrees Celsius and that made the animals come out too late to take pictures. In the photo a young male of Fallow Deer.

Un macho y una hembra.
A buck and a doe.

Un joven.
A fawn.

Esta cierva fue la primera que vimos.
This hind was the first we saw.

But stags continued hiding into the thick bushes.

Otro gamo común (Dama dama) joven.
Another young buck.

Y este otro ya no tan joven.
And this other one not so young.

This young buck was the only one we saw that afternoon.

After dinner the skies were spectacular because there was no light pollution or clouds and you could see the milky way spectacularly. In addition, one of the clients brought a night telescope, which greatly enlivened the observation of the night skies.

At that time the Red Deer surrounded the house where we were and seeing that sky and listening the Rut is overwhelming and difficult to forget.

The next morning we took a canoe ride before dawn to see if we could watch any Stag by the banks of the reservoir.

The ride was beautiful but Red Deer had already go to the forest.

Bueno, solo vimos unos pocos y muy lejos.
Well, we only saw a few and far away.

Y este zorro común (Vulpes vulpes).
And this Red Fox.

Then we decided to take a few walks along the mountain tracks to see if we could watch something. In the photo a beautiful Stag.

The Rut of the Fallow Deer has also begun.

And these are some of the photos we could take during our walk.

This was the best Stag we saw on the trip.

También vimos dos buitres negros (Aegypius monachus).
We also saw two Black Vultures.

And the take off of the Griffon Vultures from their roosting places in search of carrion.

A male of Common Darter.

After lunch this lovely Buck was very close to the house.

As it was very hot, more than 30 degrees Celsius, we decided to leave for Madrid because with those temperatures the sunset was going to be the same as the previous day.

I made a short tour of the Tiétar Valley that customers did not know and the most interesting thing we saw was a pair of  Spanish Imperial Eagle and a Black-shouldered Kite that we saw from the car.

This shabby video is from one of the Spanish Imperial Eagle.

And this other one of how some Carrion Crows harassed one of them.

And to end with  this year's Rut I leave some of the photos I could take on a private trip on October 3 to Cabañeros National Park.

As you can see, the private visit to the park is always worth it. In addition this year it was less hot than the previous one which caused Stags to be active before sunset.

Hay machos realmente grandes.
There are really big Stags.

No wonder they call it the Spanish Serengeti.

Hasta pronto.
See you soon.
