On this occasion I show you some Birds that I have been able to watch during this vacation through Cadiz. What better thing to do on vacation than to do what one likes to go birding. LOL.
I hope I do not bore you too much with so many photos and species.
Me gustan mucho los cistícolas buitrones (Cisticola juncidis) y sobre todo cuando se ponen tan cerca.
I really like Zitting Cisticola especially when they get so close.
Otra de las aves que me gusta mucho ver y fotografiar son los alzacolas rojizos (Erythropygia galactotes) ya que por donde suelo hacer mis viajes no los puedo ver.
Another Bird that I really like to see and photograph are the Rufous-tailed Scrub-robin because I can't see them where I usually travel.
Es uno de mis primeros objetivos cuando voy a la provincia de Cádiz.
It is one of my first goals when I go to the province of Cádiz.

Otras aves que también puedo ver a placer son todos los limícolas que ya están en migración postnupcial y que cuando llegan algunos conservan parte del plumaje reproductor. En la foto un correlimos tridáctilo (Calidris alba).
Other Birds that I can also see at pleasure are all Waders that are already in postnuptial migration and that when they arrive some retain part of their reproductive plumage. In the photo a Sanderling.

Otra de las aves que solo veo en Cádiz son los vencejos moros (Apus affinis).
Another Bird that I only see in Cádiz are the Little Swift.
Procuro ir al comienzo de mis andanzas por la provincia pues enseguida salen las crías a volar y son más difíciles de encontrar y fotografiar.
I try to go at the beginning of my wanderings in the Province because chicks fly out quickly and are more difficult to find and photograph.
Sus nidos están llenos de plumas que hábilmente capturan al vuelo los adultos.
Their nests are full of feathers that adults skilfully capture in flying.

Aunque para aves relacionadas con el medio acuático es mejor La Mancha, también me suelo pasar por algunas lagunas sobre todo para ver si veo a las escasas cercetas pardillas (Marmaronetta angustirostris) En la foto un macho de malvasía cabeciblanca (Oxyura leucocephala).
Although for Birds living in aquatic environment, La Mancha is better, I also usually go through some lagoons, especially to see if I watch the scarce Marbled Duck. In the photo a White-headed Duck male.

Y tuve la gran suerte de poder ver una cerceta pardilla (Marmaronetta angustirostris) que aunque solo fue una y a contraluz, la tuve muy cerca.
And I had the good fortune of being able to watch a Marbled Duck that although it was only one and backlit, I had it very close.

Great Crested Grebe. And this was what I was able to photograph in the natural freshwater lagoons in this province, although I did not dedicate them much time.

Este agosto vi más pagazas piquirrojas (Hydroprogne caspia) que en los años anteriores.
This August I saw more Caspian Terns than previous years.

Esta había capturado una rana común.
This one had captured a Frog.
Como podéis apreciar en esta foto, algunas agujas colinegras (Limosa limosa) aún estaban muy bonitas.
As you can see in this photo, some Black-tailed Godwit were still very pretty.
Solo vi un combatiente (Philomachus pugnax). Desde luego no tiene nada que ver con los macho en plumaje nupcial que vimos en nuestro viaje a Varanger del pasado mes de mayo.
I only saw a Ruff. Of course it has nothing to do with the male in breeding plumage we saw on our trip to Varanger last May.

One more summer, on Friday mornings I went to the Lighthouse of Roche to count migratory species such as Eurasian
Spoonbills and other seabirds as they passed through this place that the Limes Platalea Association performs. Este martín pescador común (Alcedo atthis) no estaba en migración pero hizo un alto en una roca en su incansable búsqueda de alimento.
This Common Kingfisher was not in migration but stopped in a rock in his tireless search for food.

Another Bird that I always try to watch on the beaches of Cadiz is the Eurasian Oystercatcher.

As well as the Bar-tailed Godwit.
Algunas estaban aún más bonitas que otras.
Some were even prettier than others.
Bastantes de las gaviotas picofinas (Chroicocephalus genei) que ví estaban anilladas.
Several of the Slender-billed Gull I saw were ringed.
Solo pude ver un charrán rosado (Sterna dougallii). Y para estar seguro le mandé una foto a mi amigo Rafa García que lo corroboró pues una especie que es muy parecida al charrán común (Sterna hirundo).
I could only see a Roseate Tern. And to be sure I sent a photo to my friend Rafa García who confirmed it. It is a species that is very similar to the common tern.

Otra de las visitas que siempre hago es a ver el paso migratorio en el Estrecho de Gibraltar. Este año no vi ningún abejero europeo (Pernis apivorus). Igual fue debido a que el buen tiempo que hizo este verano las aves estaban más atrasadas que en otros años. En la foto un milano negro (Milvus migrans).
Another visit I always do is to see the migratory at the Strait of Gibraltar. This year I saw no Honey Buzzard. Maybe it was due to the good weather this summer we had and Birds decided to delay their migration. In the photo a Black Kite.
Esperando a ver si bajaba el fuerte viento de levante para logran cruzar el estrecho.
Waiting to see if the strong east wind lowered to cross the Strait.

Y con estos abejarucos europeos (Merops apiaster) doy por zanjado mis visitas al Estrecho de Gibraltar. Como ya os decía antes, me pareció que había menos especies y menos individuos.
And with these European Bee-eaters I end with my visits to the Strait of Gibraltar. As I told you before, it seemed to me that there were fewer species and fewer individuals.
Cuando el levante sopla con fuerza, los chorlitejos patinegros (Charadrius alexandrinus) y los correlimos tridáctilos (Calidris alba) sufren mucho.
When East Wind blows hard, Kentish Plover and Sanderling suffer greatly.

Este es otro macho pero en este caso se trata de una cigüeñuela común (Himantopus himantopus).

Hacía un par de años que no veía archibebes oscuros (Tringa erythropus).
I had not seen Spotted Redshank for a couple of years.

Otra de las especias que siempre voy a ver es el ibis eremita (Geronticus eremita). Esta especie ha sido reintroducida en Cádiz, Proyecto Eremita, pues llevaba ya más de 400 años de su desaparición y en la actualidad se estima su población en 67 ejemplares. Como el número de nacimientos sigue siendo inferior al de muertes se continúa reintroduciendo ejemplares nacidos en cautividad. Esperemos que dentro de poco esta especie no necesite ya de la interferencia humana para poder seguir subsistiendo en libertad por España.
Another of the spices that I like to see is the Northern Bald Ibis. This species has been reintroduced in Cadiz, Projecto Eremita, as it had been more than 400 years since they disappeared and at present its population is estimated in 67 specimens. As the number of births is still lower than that of deaths, captive-born specimens continue to be reintroduced. Let us hope that soon this species will no longer need human interference in order to continue subsisting free in Spain.

This Common Kingfisher did not stop coming and going with food in its beak but I was not able to find where he was going to perch for fishing.

There were also some Common Waxbills.

Había un bando muy grande de ánsares comunes (Anser anser) que estaban con ocas y por lo que pude ver ya habían hibridado entre ellos.
There was a very large flock of Greylag Geese that were with Domestic Geese and from what I could see they had already hybridized between them.

La pena es que todos tenían una facilidad tremenda para volar.
The pity is that everyone had a tremendous ease to fly.
¿Os preguntaréis por qué es una pena? Es sencillo pues al tener esta facilidad para volar, y no me refiero simplemente a vuelos cortos, pueden escaparse y llegar al cercano parque nacional de Doñana con lo que podrían contaminar la especie salvaje.
Will you wonder why it's a shame? It is simple because having this facility to fly, and I do not simply mean short flights, they can escape and reach the nearby Doñana National Park with what could contaminate the wild species.
También encuentran refugio en este parque multitud de vuelvepiedras comunes (Arenaria interpres).
They also find refuge in this park multitude of Turnstones.
Que se han acostumbrado a la presencia humana y son bastante mansos.
They have become accustomed to human presence and are quite meek.

También había algunos conejos comunes (Oryctolagus cuniculus).
There were also some European rabbits.
Pero sin duda, lo que más me chocó fue ver a este pato de pico amarillo (Anas undulata) que es de origen Africano, sobre todo África oriental y austral.
But without a doubt, what struck me most was seeing this Yellow-billed Duck that is of African origin, especially Eastern and Southern Africa.
Como podéis apreciar tiene el vuelo largo, es decir que no está amputado de un ala.
As you can see, it has a long flight, that is, it is not amputated from a wing.
Y carece de anilla en sus patas. Probablemente se trate de un escape de alguna colección privada pero por ley en España, quien tenga especies no autóctonas debe amputar un ala y anillar los nacimientos.
And it lacks a ring on its legs. It is probably an escape from a private collection but by law in Spain, who has non-native species must amputate them a wing and ring all births.
Al igual que ocurría con los ansares comunes (Anser anser) los ánades azulones (Anas platyrhynchos) había muchos que son híbridos fértiles de éstos y de patos domésticos. En la foto un macho.
As was the case with the Greylag Geese, many Mallards were fertile hybrids of these and of domestic ducks. In the photo a male.
De todos los gustos y colores.

Estos también volaban como los salvajes y es una pena que estos híbridos puedan contaminar la especie.
These also flew like the wild ones and it is a pity that these hybrids can contaminate the species.
Y hasta aquí lo que dió de si Costa Ballena.
And so far this was what Costa Ballena gave of.
Volviendo a las playas, había bastantes chorlitejos grandes (Charadrius hiaticula).
Returning to the beaches, there were quite a few Great Ringed Plovers.
Al igual que vuelvepiedras comunes (Arenaria interpres).
As well as Turnstones.
Este era un juvenil.
This was a juvenile.
Zarapito trinador (Numenius phaeopus).

Algunos chorlitos grises (Pluvialis squatarola) aún conservaban su bonito plumaje reproductor.
Some Gray Plovers still retained their beautiful breeding plumage.
Y otros no.
And others not.

Y ya el último día antes de salir a la carretera para regresar a Madrid, desde donde pasé las vacaciones pude ver un gran paso migratorio de vencejos reales (Apus melba). En una hora que me estuve fijando pasaron cientos.
And already on the last day before going on the road to return to Madrid, from where I spent the holidays I could watch a great migration of Alpine Swifts. In an hour that I was paying attention hundreds passed.
En un alto en el camino puede ver bastantes buitres negros (Aegypius monachus). Siempre elijo sitios para parar en los que no es difícil verlos.
At a stop along the way I can see many Black Vultures. I always choose places to stop where it is not difficult to see them.
Y en menor número buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus).
And in smaller numbers Griffon Vultures.
