Hola una vez más.
Hello again.

This time I show you a trip we made to see and photograph the Eurasian Dotterel.

This species is the smallest of the three Plovers that we can see in our territory reaching 24 cm. of length. Although there are quotations of individuals that have been reproduced in the Pyrenees, their number as a breeding Bird is very limited or in many years null. In breeding plumage, the female is the one that exhibits more intense colors because it is the male that carries out the incubation and care of the chicks. They pass winter in the arid regions of North Africa and Middle East while their reproduction, except for the aforementioned, is mainly in subarctic and tundra areas.

The best time for observation in Spain is during the months of August to October in their postnuptial migration because in their prenuptial migration there are rarely seen. In any case, there are few specimens that can be watched in the interior of the peninsula and in coastal areas, both in isolation and in small groups. Their winter stay is merely testimonial.

I present to you the Bird that we have gone to photograph the Eurasian Dotterel. It is a pity that when they arrive in Spain they are already in winter plumage and do not look as beautiful colors as in breeding plumage.

But I like to start with how the day of birding took place because it took us all morning to find them. The date was October 4.

The first thing we got at the beginning of the tour was an immense flock of Pin-tailed Sandgrouse.

In this picture I counted 144 individuals but the group was much bigger.

Vimos más grupos pero mucho menores.
We saw more flocks but smaller.

Algunas las tuvimos muy cerca.
Some we had very close.

We also saw some Great Bustards but soon it started to be very hot and the reverb prevented the photos at a distance from being clear.

Although it was difficult, at the end we were able to see and photograph the desired Eurasian Dotterel.

Era un bando de 38 aves.
It was a flock of 38 Birds.

After a cautious approach we could take these photos that although they are not bad could have been much better if there had not been so much reverberation.

As we were not far from the lagoons and we had already photographed the Eurasian Dotterel, we decided to go to them to spend the afternoon photographing other Birds.
