Hello everyone.

Hoy os voy a enseñar algunas de las aves vistas en el Suroeste de la Comunidad de Madrid en una visita realizada a finales de marzo.

Today I'll show you some of the birds seen in the Southwest of the Community of Madrid during a visit in late March.

Tuvimos sol y una temperatura fenomenal lo que unido a la cantidad de grandes rapaces diurnas que tuvimos la suerte de observar se convirtió en un día inolvidable. En total vimos 4 águilas reales (Aquila chrysaetos) y 5 águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti) además de buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) y negros (Aegypius monachus).

We had sun and a great temperature which together with the number of Large Diurnal Raptors that we were lucky enough to observe became an unforgettable day. In total we saw 4 Golden Eagles, 5 Spanish Imperial Eagles plus Monk and Griffon Vultures.

Pero lo que más nos gustó fue el poder observar un ejemplar adulto de cigüeña negra (Ciconia nigra) en el cauce de un río. Toda una sorpresa inesperada.

But what we liked most was being able to observe an adult Black Stork (Ciconia nigra) in a riverbed. An unexpected surprise.

Ni que decir tiene que en ningún momento nos apartamos de las rutas habilitadas para dar paseos y que no se molestó a ningún ave de las que aquí aparecen fotografiadas. La pena ha sido que los avistamientos fueron a bastante distancia con lo que las fotos son, en algunos casos, simplemente testimoniales.

Needless to say that at no time we move away from authorized walking routes and we did not bother any bird which is shown here photographed. The pity is that the sightings were from quite a distance so the photos are, in some cases, just testimonees.

A lo largo de todo el día pudimos disfrutar de muchos pinzones vulgares (Fringilla coelebs).

Throughout the whole day we enjoyed many Common Chaffinch.

Al igual que de varios grupos de escribanos montesinos (Emberiza cia). En la foto una hembra.

As well as several groups of Rock Buntings. In the photo a female.

Aun se observaban mosquiteros comunes (Phylloscopus collybita).

Even Chiffchaffs were observed.

Los roqueros solitarios (Monticola solitarius) eran muy abundantes y fáciles de encontrar pues no paraban de cantar.

Blue Rock Thrushs were abundant and easy to find as did not stop singing.

También vimos muchos rabilargos ibéricos (Cyanopica cookii).

We also saw many Azure-winged Magpie.

Un macho de escribano montesino (Emberiza cia).

A male of Rock Bunting.

Sin embargo las hembras de roquero solitario (Monticola solitarius) eran más difíciles de encontrar.

However females of Rock Thrush were harder to find.

También vimos algunos cuervos (Corvus corax).

We also saw some Common Ravens.

Y algunos ánades reales (Anas platyrhynchos) aunque casi en su totalidad eran machos. Las hembras deben haber comenzado con la incubación.

And some Mallards although almost all were male. Females should have started with incubation.

Este verdecillo (Serinus serinus) cantaba primorosamente.

This Serin sang beautifully.

Otro macho de roquero solitario (Monticola solitarius).

Another male of Blue Rock Thrush.

Y otro bonito macho de escribano montesino (Emberiza cia).

And another beautiful male of Rock Bunting.

El mismo que en la foto anterior. 

The same as in the previous photo.

Algunos aviones roqueros (Ptyonoprogne rupestris) estaban cogiendo barro para construir sus nidos.

Some Crag Martins were taking mud to build their nests.

Las primeras golondrinas dáuricas (Hirundo daurica) que veía este año en la Comunidad de Madrid.

The first Red-rumped Swallow I saw this year in the Community of Madrid.

Y también la primer curruca carrasqueña (Sylvia cantillans) de la temporada. En la foto un macho.

And also the first Subalpine Warbler of the season. In the photo a male.

Al medio día una pareja de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) decidió echarse a volar.

At noon a couple of Spanish Imperial Eagles decided to start flying.

El otro miembro de la pareja.

The other member of the pair.

Y no muy lejos suyo se levantó la tercera águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) que nos entretuvo con un cicleo y luego pasó muy cerca de donde estábamos.

And not far from the pair this third Spanish Imperial Eagle took off and entertained us with a circular flight and then passed close to where we were.

Un ave preciosa.

A beautiful Bird.

Cuando decidimos almorzar esta águila real (Aquila chrysaetos) nos interrumpió pero no nos importó lo más mínimo.

When we decided to have lunch this Golden Eagle nterrupted us but it did not mind at all.

Una bonita mariposa de los olmos (Nymphalis polychloros).

A pretty Large Tortoiseshell.

Una pareja de trepadores azules (Sitta europaea) estaba muy atareada haciendo su nido.

A couple of European Nuthatches was very busy making their nest.

Y un poco lejos vimos a este mirlo acuático (Cinclus cinclus). Más tarde disfrutaríamos de una pareja a placer.

And a little far we saw this Dipper. Later we enjoied a couple at pleasure. 

Cuando vi esta estampa en el cielo mi alegría fue inmensa. Se trataba de una cigüeña negra (Ciconia nigra).

When I saw this silhouette in the sky my joy was immense. It was a Black Stork.

Había algunas parejas de alondras totovías (Lullula arborea).

There were some couples of Wood Larks.

Y entre las ramas de los árboles alcanzamos a ver esta maravilla de adulto de cigüeña negra (Ciconia nigra).

And through the branches of the trees managed to see this wonderful adult of Black Stork.

   

El momento fue breve pero inolvidable.

The moment was brief but unforgettable.

Un poco después pudimos ver como esta águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) hacia este espectacular picado.

Shortly after we could see this Spanish Imperial Eagle making this spectacular diving.

Y vi que iba dirigida a expulsar a esta

And I saw that it was directed to expel this

 

Aguila real (Aquila chrysaetos) que llevaba una presa en sus garras.

Golden Eagle carrying a prey in its talons.

Y esta otra fue la ultima águila real (Aquila chrysaetos) que vimos este día.

And this one was the last Golden Eagle we saw this day.

Y cuando decidimos regresar, de camino a la furgoneta nos encontramos con esta preciosa pareja de mirlos acuáticos (Cinclus cinclus) que nos entretuvo un buen rato con su incesante búsqueda de alimento.

And when we decided to return, on the way to the van we found this lovely pair of Dippers who entertained us for a while with their non stopping search of food.

BIRDING EXTREMADURA, PARQUE ORNITOLÓGICO DE ARROCAMPO.

Hi everyone again.

Hace tiempo que tenía ganas de ir al Parque Ornitológico de Arrocampo en Extremadura pues en invierno se suelen ver pechiazules (Luscinia svecica) y avetoros comunes (Botaurus stellaris) y durante todo el año los elanios comunes (Elanus caeruleus). Los dos primeros me fallaron pero disfruté de los últimos.

Time ago that I wanted to go to the Parque Ornitológico de Arrocampo in Extremadura because during winter are usually seen Bluethroats and Great Bittern and throughout the year Black-shouldered Kite. The first two failed me but I enjoyed the last.

Como de costumbre y a pesar del fuerte viento reinante durante todo el día el viaje mereció la pena y pude disfrutar de muchas especies de las que os dejo algunas fotos.

As usual and despite the strong wind during all day the trip was worth it and I enjoy many species of which I leave some photos.

En el camino pude ver a este busardo ratonero (Buteo buteo).

On the way I saw this Common Buzzard.

Y también a este macho de gorrión moruno (Passer hispaniolensis).

As well as this Spanish Sparrow male.

Y ya en mi destino vi el primer elanio común (Elanus caeruleus) que estaba posado en el tendido eléctrico y no dudó en salir volando en cuanto detuve la furgoneta.

And in my destiny I saw the first Black-winged Kite that was perched on the power lines and did not hesitate to fly out as the van stopped.

Me extrañó algo ver tanto buitre volando tan bajo y lo achaque a que hacía mucho viento. En la foto un buitre negro (Aegypius monachus).

I was a little bit surprised to see so much vulture flying low and i thought it was because there was a windy day. The photo shows a Monk Vulture.

Y en esta otra un buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus).

And in this one a Griffon Vulture.

Como veía que venían de la zona del observatorio 5 fui en esa dirección a ver si encontraba el motivo de tanto buitre. En el embalse del citado observatorio me encontré con este par de andarríos grandes (Tringa ochropus).

As they were coming from the area of the 5th observatory I went in that direction to see if I could find the reason for so much vulture. In the reservoir of said observatory I found this two Green Sandpipers.

Un macho de ánade real (Anas platyrhynchos).

Mallard male.

Y también estaba esta pareja de porrones moñudos (Aythya fuligula) que es la primera vez que veo esta especie en Arrocampo.

And also there was this pair of Tufted Ducks which is the first time I see this specie at Arrocampo. 

Este macho de ánade real (Anas platyrhynchos) había encontrado un buen lugar para protegerse del viento. No vi casi ninguna hembra pues la mayoría ya están incubando.

This Mallard male had found a good place to keep out the wind. I saw almost no female since most are already incubating.

Como suele ser habitual en esa zona, había un buen grupo de rabilargos ibéricos (Cyanopica cookii).

As usually in that area there were a group of Azure-winged Magpie.

Y continuando un poco más por esa carretera me encontré con un buen grupo de buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) y algunos negros (Aegypius monachus). Estaban muy cerca de lo que debió ser un becerro del que solo quedaba la piel y este era el motivo de la cantidad de ellos que había observado con anterioridad.

And continuing a little further down that road I found a large group of Griffon and Monk Vultures. They were very close to what should be a calf that was only its skin and this was the reason of the amount of them I had seen before.

Sobrevolando la zona oeste del embalse pude ver a esta garceta grande (Egretta alba).

Flying over the west side of the reservoir I could see this Great White Egret.

El campo estaba precioso con tantas flores y colores.

Fields were gorgeous with so many flowers and colors.

Un nutrido grupo de verdecillos (Serinus serinus) se alimentaban de estas flores.

A large group of Europen Serins were feeding on these flowers.

Y en una de las charcas de la zona había una pareja de zampullines comunes (Tachybaptus ruficollis).

And in one of the ponds of the area there was a couple of Little Grebes.

Vi bastantes tarabillas europeas (Saxicola rubicola) a lo largo de todo el día. En la foto un macho.

I saw quite a few Common Stonechat throughout the day. This is a male.

Algunas garcillas bueyeras (Bubulcus ibis) se alimentaban entre el ganado que hay en los alrededores del observatorio 5.

Some Cattle Egrets were feeding between cattle in the area surrounding the observatory five.

Ya de camino al Centro de Información pude observar a un grupo de estorninos pintos (Sturnus vulgaris).

On my way to the Information Centre I could watch a group of Common Starlings.

Después de recoger la llave de los observatorios fui al 1 y pude observar muchos calamones comunes (Porphyrio porphyrio).

After getting the key to the observatories I went to the first and I could observe many Purple Swamp-hens.

Y algunos martines pescadores (Alcedo atthis) pero muy difíciles de fotografiar.

And some kingfishers but very difficult to photograph.

Algunos galápagos estaban tranquilamente tomando el sol al abrigo del viento.

Some freshwater turtles were sunbathing peacefully sheltered from the wind.

Después de un buen rato muy entretenido me dirigí al observatorio segundo para probar suerte con el avetoro común (Botaurus stellaris) pero no la tuve. Sin embargo estaba bastante entretenido. En la foto una garceta grande (Egretta alba) entre los carrizos. 

After a very entertaining awhile I went to the second observatory to try to spot Great Bittern but I was not lucky enough to see any. However it was very entertained. In the photo a Great White Egret within the reeds.

También andaba por allí esta bonita garza real (Ardea cinerea).

There was also this beautiful Grey Heron.

Y más calamones comunes (Porphyrio porphyrio).

And some more Purple Swamp-hens.

Este cormorán grade (Phalacrocorax carbo) estaba de pesca y buceaba continuamente en busca de algún pez.

This Great Cormorant was fishing and diving continuously looking for some fish.

De repente emergió con esta gran carpa que era tan grande que pensé que no se la iba a poder tragar.

Suddenly it emerged with this big Tent that was so big I thought I was not going to be able to swallow.

Cual fue mi sorpresa cuando del cielo se tiró empicado este otro cormorán grande (Phalacrocorax carbo) que robó el pez al que lo había pescado.

What was my surprise when from the sky pulled sharply these other great cormorant who stole the fish that had fish the other.

Y en un instante el ladrón se tragó el almuerzo del otro.

And in an instant the thief swallowed the lunch of the other.

En los carrizos de debajo del observatorio pude fotografiar a este buitrón (Cisticola juncidis).

In the reeds below the observatory got to photograph this Zitting Cisticola.

Y cuando ya me iba este macho de tarabilla estaba posado en la valla del observatorio.

And when I was leaving this Common Stonechat male was perched on the fence of the observatory.

En el número 4 no había muchas cosas debido al fuerte viento. En la foto una focha común (Fulica atra).

In No. 4 there was not many things due to high winds. Pictured a Common Coot.

Por los alrededores pasaban las cigüeñas blancas (Ciconia ciconia).

By the surrounding area passed White Storks.

Y había muchos grupos de lavanderas blancas (Motacilla alba).

And there were many groups of White Wagtails.

También algunos trigueros (Miliaria calandra).

Also some Corn Buntings.

Garceta Común (Egretta garzetta).

Little Egret.

En todo el día solo vi dos aguiluchos laguneros occidentales (Circus aeruginosus) y ambas eran hembras.

In all day I only saw two Eurasian Marsh Harriers and both were females.

Había bastantes cogujadas comunes (Galerida cristata).

There were many Crested Larks.

Otro buitrón ((Cisticola juncidis) en pleno canto.

Another Zitting Cisticola singing.

Un bonito alcaudón real (Lanius meridionalis).

A lovely Southern Grey Shrike.

Después me puse a dar un último recorrido por los lugares menos ventosos y me encontré con las siguientes especies: Calamón común (Porphyrio porphyrio).

Then I started to make a last tour of the least windy places and I found the following species: Purple Swamp-hen.

Mi primer cernícalo primilla (Falco naumanni) de este año.

My first Lesser Kestrel of this year.

Verdecillo (Serinus serinus) macho.

Male of European Serin.

Elanio común inmaduro (Elanus caeruleus).

Immature Black-shouldered Kite.

Anades frisos (Anas strepera).

Gadwalls.

La misma pareja de porrones moñudos (Aythya fuligula) de la mañana.

The same Tufted Ducks of the morning.

Jilgueros europeos (Carduelis carduelis).

Goldfinches.

Una pareja de cucharas comunes (Anas clypeata).

A pair of Northern Shovelers.

Cigüeñuela común (Himantopus himantopus).

Black-winged Stilt.

Y justo antes de regresar a Madrid vi como un grupo de rabilargos ibéricos (Cyanopica cookii) se tomaba un breve baño.

And just before returning to Madrid I saw a group of Azure-winged Magpies was taking a short bath.
