Pajareando por España, Picos de Europa. Birding Spain, Picos de Europa.

Hola una vez más.
Hi again.

In the following link you can see our next national and foreign Birds and Mammals photographic and observation trips. I hope you like them and I encourage you to come with me. An experience that you will not forget.

This time I show you what we were able to spot and photograph in two three-day trips to the Picos de Europa National Park at the end of July. The first was an organized trip and the second an à la carte trip for two foreigners.

Target of these trips was to watch, and if possible photograph, Alpine Birds with a special predilection for Wallcreepers and Snowfinches.

Another of the objectives of both trips was to be able to take night photos of the Milky Way and for this we had chosen a date on which there was a new moon to capture in its splendor the night skies of Picos de Europa.

This year the weather was very good during the two trips we were in this beautiful environment that is Picos de Europa.

I will do the story for each day of the trip so you can see what we could watched each of them and also divided into the two trips.

Unfortunately, I had dropped my camera and had to go up on the first trip with a replacement and the tamron 150-600 zoom. In the second I already had my camera but the canon lens was still under repair. A shame because in both cases we had the birds very close but the quality of the photos is not what I would have obtained with my usual equipment.
Viaje organizado del 17 al 19 de julio
Organized trip from July 17 to 19

Unas vistas inolvidables.
Before reaching our destination we made a stop at the Piedrasluengas viewpoint to be able to contemplate where we were going to birding in the next 3 days. Unforgettable views.

We arrived in Espinama and got in the van to the Hotel Refugio Aliva, which was where we were going to spend the two nights of our stay in Picos.

Views from the Hotel are awesome with Peña Vieja in the background.

A moment of our excursion. The walks are hard but worth it. In addition, since we go bird watching and not trekking we go very slowly because if you go hiking you do not go so slowly to be able to look for Birds. This tour can be done by most people.

All time we were in the Central Massif of Picos de Europa.

On the last day we went down to the edge of the alpine meadow to see other Bird species.

After lunch we went for a walk in search of the alpine Birds. Our first approach was to a group of Yellow-billed Chough.

Not far away there was also a group of red-billed chough.

Also Snowfinches were collecting insects to feed their chicks.

It is awesome to see the amount of insects that they are able to capture in a short time.

Alpine Accentor didn't do it bad either.

We did not see any juvenile Snowfinch. I imagine that by the number of times they were going to feed them, they would not be long before their chicks left the nest.

Pics are wonderful. They are all limestone and with very little vegetation.

But the ones that always come as soon as they see people sitting down to eat are the Yellow-billed Choughs.

Un momento para apaciguar el hambre.
A moment to appease hunger.

Y la sed.

While we waited to see if we could watch the Wallcreeper these Bellflowers caught my attention.

And back to Madrid I made a brief stop at the church of San Juan Bautista in Moarves de Ojeda. A true beauty of the Romanesque of Palencia and that stands out for its semicircular facade that is made up of five archivolts.
