Pajareando por Madrid, Cerro de San Pedro. Birding Madrid, Cerro de San Pedro.

Hola una vez más.
Hi again.

In the following link you can see our next national and foreign Birds and Mammals photographic and observation trips. I hope you like them and I encourage you to come with me. An experience that you will not forget.

This time I show you what I could see on a climb to the Cerro de San Pedro belonging to the Sierra de Guadarrama of the Central System. It is a 1,425-meter-high island hill that is isolated and separated from the main alignment of the system in which it is located.

The ascent is quite strong because in 2.5 kilometers you ascend more than 400 meters of unevenness.

Views from top are very beautiful.

Despite being in mid-June, field was still full of flowers. It must be due to the abundant rains of this spring.

With so many flowers there were many insects. In the photo an Ant-Lion.

I was also very struck with the beautiful Spoonwing.

We enjoy watching many species of Butterflies. In the photo a Great Banded Grayling.

One of the Butterflies that can be seen in Spain and that is one of the most beautiful for me, is the Peacock Butterfly.

A Western Orphean Warbler did not stop singing.

También vi algunos alcaudones comunes (Lanius senator).
I also saw some Woodchat Shrike.

I saw an Ocellated Lizard peeking shyly from a rock.

I decided to wait a while to see if it came out completely.

Y la espera mereció la pena. Era un inmenso macho.
And the wait was worth it. It was a huge male.

This rock with red lichens attracted my attention from a great distance. It was the only one seen in the area with this color.

For a good part of the morning the army was on maneuvers and in this case this large helicopter caught my eye.

Había bastantes cogujadas montesinas (Galerida theklae).
There were many Thekla Lark.

In one of the many rock formations there was a male Blue Rock Thrush that was still feeding his chicks.

Una de sus crías.
One of his chicks.

Y otra más.
And another one.

Abundaban las clavelinas o clavel silvestre (Dianthus lusitanus).
There were many Wild Carnation.

Una preciosa la campanilla silvestre (Campanula patula).
A beautiful Spreading Bellflower.

También abundaban las dedaleras comunes (Digitalis purpurea).
There was also plenty of Common Foxglove.

Flying over the area you could see Black Vultures.

A singing Corn Bunting.

I only saw this juvenile Mistle Thrush.

There were some Common Linnets. It was a shame that they were all so far away because the males were very pretty.

Some Iberian Magpie were in the area.

Unos más cercanos que otros.
Some closer than others.

Otra curruca mirlona occidental (Sylvia hortensis).
Another Western Orphean Warbler.

It was looking for food in the bushes. For how elusive they are, I'm not complaining about how close it got.

And to finish with the excursion I decided to go to the Santillana reservoir because in another trip I had seen that Great Crested Grebe were breeding near the road and I decided to stop by to see if they already had chicks. As you can see, from the many couples that were brooding, the closest one had already had a chick and still had three eggs to hatch.

It was a shame that in the area where they are breeding it is backlit in the afternoon. Anyway, I really liked to check that everything was going well with this year's reproduction.

Hasta pronto.
See you soon.
