Hi once again.

Esta semana os muestro algunas de las aves que pudimos ver en un viaje por tierras de Toledo. Nuestro principal objetivo eran las avutardas comunes (Otis tarda), los sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax), las gangas ibéricas (Pterocles alchata) y las gangas ortegas (Pterocles orientalis). Tuvimos suerte con tres de ellas pero no vimos ninguna ganga ibérica (Pterocles alchata). Otra vez será.
This week I show you some of the birds we saw on a trip through the fields of Toledo. Our main objective was Great Bustards, Little Bustards, Pin-tailed Sandgrouses and Black-bellied Sandgrouses. We were lucky with three of them but did not see any Pin-tailed Sandgrouses. Maybe next time.

El día fue muy caluroso y los campos estaban muy secos y sin haberse sembrado aun debido a las escasas lluvias de este año por aquel entonces.
Day was very hot and fields were very dry and without been sown due to little rains we have had this year at that time.

Avutardas comunes (Otis tarda).
Great Bustards.

Vimos bastantes bandos.
We saw several flocks.

Perdices rojas (Alectoris rufa).
Red-legged Partridge.

Es una pena el declive que está teniendo esta especie. Recuerdo cuando por estas mismos campos se podían ver muchas y ahora nos alegramos cuando vemos unas pocas.
It's a shame the decline is having this specie. I remember when in these same fields you could see many and now we are glad when we see some ones.

Un grupo de ocho gangas ortegas (Pterocles orientalis) nos sorprendió con sus reclamos y rápido vuelo. Dos de ellas iban un poco más retrasadas y no salieron en las fotos. Eran todos machos.
A group of eight Black-belied Sandgrouses surprised us with their special voices and their fast flight. Two of them were a little delayed and did not come out in the photos. They were all males.

También vimos varias calandrias (Melanocorypha calandra).
We also saw several Calandra Larks.

Tarabilla norteña (Saxicola rubetra) en paso migratorio.
Whinchat on migration.

Un grupo de sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax).
A flock of Little Bustards.

Otro.
Another.

Mochuelo europeo (Athene noctua).
Little Owl.

Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus).
Griffon Vulture.

Buitre negro (Aegypius monachus).
Black Vulture.

Cistícola buitrón (Cisticola juncidis).
Zitting Cisticola.

Alcaudón real meridional (Lanius meridionalis).
Southern Grey Shrike.

Había muchas collalbas grises (Oenanthe oenanthe).
There were many Northern Wheatears.

Y esta fue la más confiada.
And this was the tamest.

Joven de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti).
Juvenile of Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Y otro joven pero esta vez de águila real (Aquila chrysaetos).
And another juvenile but this time is of a Golden Eagle.

Cigüeña blanca (Ciconia ciconia).
White Stork.

A orillas del río Tajo había muchas.
There were many in the banks of the Tagus River.

Milano real (Milvus milvus).
Red Kite.

Otro.
Another one.

Cogujada montesina (Galerida theklae).
Thekla Lark.

Garza real (Ardea cinerea).
Grey Heron.

Roquero solitario (Monticola solitarius) macho.
Male of Blue Rock Thrush.

Me hizo gracia ver como este avión común (Delichon urbica) molestaba a este busardo ratonero (Buteo buteo).
I was amused to see how this House Martin disturbed this Common Buzzard.

Aguilucho lagunero occidental (Circus aeruginosus).
Eurasian Marsh Harrier.

Hay que ver que difíciles son de encontrar las gangas ortegas (Pterocles orientalis) cuando el terreno tiene casi su mismo color y están de espaldas.
It is very difficult to spot Black-bellied Sandgrouses when the ground has almost the same color and they are backwards.

Cuando están de lado o vuelan es otra cosa.
When they are on its side or they fly it is much easier to find them.
