Hello again.

Esta semana os muestro algunas de las aves que vimos en un reciente viaje al Parque Nacional de Monfragüe y de regreso a Madrid una corta visita al Parque Ornitológico de Arrocampo en Saucedilla.

This week I show you some of the birds we saw on a recent trip to Monfragüe National Park and while comming back to Madrid a short visit to Parque Ornitológico de Arrocampo in Saucedilla.

Los objetivos principales de la visita eran: cigüeña negra (Ciconia nigra), garza imperial (Ardea purpurea), elanio común (Elanus caeruleus), águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) y águila perdicera (Aquila fasciata). Tuvimos mucha suerte y vimos todas las especies deseadas.

The main objectives of the visit were: Black Stork, Purple Heron, Black-shouldered Kiet, Spanish Imperial Eagle and Bonelli's Eagle. We were very lucky and we saw all the desired species.

El tiempo fue bueno aunque por la tarde tuvimos algunas tormentas.

The weather was good although in the afternoon we had some storms.

De camino al Parque hice una breve parada para ver si veíamos algunas águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti) y hubo suerte. También vimos un elanio común (Elanus caeruleus).

On the way to the Park I made a brief stop to see if we were able to spot some Spanish Imperial Eagle and we were lucky. We also saw a Black-shouldered Kiet.

Ya en Monfragüe vimos varias currucas carrasqueñas (Sylvia cantillans). En la foto un macho.

Already at Monfragüe we saw several Subalpine Warblers. In the photo a male.

Es impresionante ver lo tranquilas que están en este lugar esta especie tan esquiva. Autobuses, coches, ruidosas motos y mucha gente y ellas tan tranquilas.

It's amazing how confident they have in this place been a elusive specie. Buses, cars, noisy motorbikes and lot of people and they are undisturbed.

De las grandes rapaces diurnas los buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) son la especie más abundante.

Of the large diurnal Raptors Griffon Vultures are the most abundant specie.

Aviones roqueros (Ptyonoprogne rupestris).

Vimos varios alimoches comunes (Neophron percnopterus).

We saw several Egyptian Vultures.

Chova piquirroja (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax).

Un águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) hostigada por un cuervo (Corvus corax).

Pero sin lugar a dudas lo mejor del viaje fue ver como esta águila perdicera (Aquila fasciata) cazaba a una paloma.

But without doubt the best of the trip was to see how this Bonelli's Eagle hunted a dove.

La pareja del águila anterior nos deleitó con unos lances muy cerca nuestro.

The couple of the previous Eagle delighted us with some flights very close to us.

En varias ocasiones los milanos negros (Milvus migrans) estuvieron hostigándolas.

On several occasions Black Kites were harassing them.

El más grande y veloz de nuestros vencejos, el vencejo real (Apus melba).

The largest and fastest of our swifts, the Alpine Swift.

Como uno de nuestros objetivos era ver a las garzas imperiales (Ardea purpurea) de regreso a Madrid decidí hacer una breve parada en el Parque Ornitológico de Arrocampo. En la foto un macho de collalba gris (Oenanthe oenanthe).

As one of our goals was to see Purple Heron while we were returning to Madrid I decided to make a brief stop at the Parque Ornitológico de Arrocampo. In the photo a male of Northern Wheatear.
