Esta semana os muestro lo que pudimos ver este año sobre el celo de la Cabra Montés (Capra Pirenayca Victoriae). El primer viaje era privado y lo hice el 24 de noviembre. El segundo era el programado para quien quisiese apuntarse el 26 de noviembre. 

This week I show you what we could see this year about the heat of the Spanish Ibex. The first trip was private and we did it on November 24. The second was the one scheduled for those who wanted to sign up on November 26. 

Para poder fotografiar las cabras es necesario obtener el preceptivo permiso de la Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Comunidad de Castilla León. Sin él, no se puede fotografiar a estos animales.

To be able to photograph the Spanish Ibex it is necessary to obtain the mandatory permission of the Ministry of the Environment of the Community of Castilla León. Without it, you can not photograph these animals.

Del primer viaje no he subido fotos pues como no paró de llover en todo el día decidí no sacar la cámara fotográfica pues se me iba a mojar. Además de la lluvia hacia mucho frío y llovía de lado por las rachas de viento. Fue una pena pero el cliente no disponía de otro día para hacer la excursión y no quiso anularla. De todos modos vimos algunos machos muy bonitos.

I have not uploaded photos of the first trip because since it did not stop raining all day I decided not to take out the camera because it was going to get wet. In addition to the rain, it was very cold and it was raining sideways due to gusts of wind. It was a shame but the client did not have another day to do the excursion and he did not want to cancel it. Anyway we saw some very nice males.

Dos días después, en el viaje organizado el tiempo fue magnífico y pudimos pasar un día estupendo con las cabras.

Two days later, on the organized trip, the weather was great and we were able to spend a wonderful day with the Spanish Ibex.

Al poco rato de empezar a subir para ver por donde andaban las cabras montesas (Capra Pirenayca Victoriae) pudimos ver a este gran macho solitario.

Shortly after starting to climb to see where Spanish Ibex were, we could see this great solitary male.

En el camino que sube desde la Plataforma había bastante hielo. Había que prestar mucha atención donde pisábamos.

There was quite a bit of ice on the trail up from the Platform. We had to pay close attention where we stepped.

Mientras seguíamos subiendo a donde ya habíamos visto que había un rebaño de cabras, vimos llegar un bando de chovas piquirrojas (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax).

As we continued climbing to where we had already seen a herd of Ibex, we saw a flock of Red-billed Choughs rrive.

Estos bonitos hongos llamaron mi atención.

These nice fungi caught my eye.

Como había llovido mucho los días antes de la excursión, nos llevó un buen rato encontrar un paso para cruzar el riachuelo de la Garganta de Prado Puerto. En la foto un bonito macho.

As it had rained a lot the days before the excursion, it took us a long time to find a pass to cross the stream of the Prado Puerto Gorge. In the photo a nice male.

Una hembra.

A female.

Había varios rebaños. Decidimos quedarnos donde estaba el más numeroso para ver si teníamos suerte y veíamos alguna pelea.

There were several herds. We decided to stay where the most numerous were to see if we were lucky and saw some fight.

Enseguida vimos que estaban en celo.

We saw right away that they were in heat.

Siempre me llama la atención la cara que se le pone a los machos cuando van detrás de las hembras.

I am always struck by the face that males get when they go after females.

A pesar de las aparentes muestras de que los machos estaban en celo, el día estaba muy calmado y había poco movimiento. Un presagio de que las peleas no iban a surgir.

Despite the apparent signs that the males were in heat, the day was very calm and there was little movement. An omen that the fights were not going to arise.

Un cabrito de esta primavera caminando por una roca casi vertical. Parece mentira lo sencillo que parece cuando ves a estos animales andar por ellas. Nada más lejos de la realidad.

A calf of this past spring walking on an almost vertical rock. It seems unbelievable how simple it seems when you see these animals walk through them.

La cornamenta de los machos de Gredos son impresionantes.

Horns of the Gredos males are very big.

Algunas hembras y crías del rebaño.

Esta hembra parecía que era la mas receptiva. Siempre era seguida por este gran macho.

This female seemed to be the most receptive. She was always followed by this big male.

Este otro macho les seguía a una cierta distancia. Estaba claro quien mandaba de los dos.

This other male followed them at a certain distance. It was clear who was stronger.

Realizó varios saltos sobre la hembra pero yo no estaba muy preparado y no pude sacar una buena foto. Solo esta y desenfocada. Otro año será.

He made several jumps on the female but I wasn't very prepared and I couldn't take a good photo. It's just out of focus. Another year it will be.

Después de comer y ver que no había mucha acción, decidimos ir a ver a otro de los rebaños que se veían desde donde estábamos. Otra vez tuvimos que cruzar el arroyo y caminar otro rato.

After having lunch and seeing that there was not much action, we decided to go see another of the herds that could be seen from where we were. Once again we had to cross the stream and walk for a while.

Era menos numeroso pero había varios machos muy grandes.

It was less numerous but there were several very large males.

Son siempre las hembras las que deciden quien será el padre de su cría del año que viene.

It is always females who decide who will be the father of their calf next year.

No sabría decir cual fue el mejor macho que vimos, pero este fue uno de ellos.

I couldn't say which was the best male we saw, but this was one of them.

Pasamos una tarde muy tranquila, con una buena temperatura y una luz preciosa en compañía de este otro rebaño.

We spent a very calm afternoon, with a good temperature and a beautiful light in the company of this other herd.

De regreso a la furgoneta, en el parking de la plataforma pudimos ver a una pareja de cuervos grandes  (Corvus corax).

Back in the van, in the platform parking we could see a couple of Common Raven.
