Esta vez os muestro lo que pude fotografiar en un viaje privado a principios de septiembre para ver y fotografiar al buitre negro (Aegypius monachus) y al águila real (Aquila chrysaetos). El viaje fue a un muladar que hay en el Parque Nacional de Cabañeros.

This time I show you what I was able to photograph on a private trip in early September to see and photograph the black vulture (Aegypius monachus) and the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos). The trip was to a dunghill at the Cabañeros National Park.

Una de las ventajas de este muladar era que no tenías que madrugar para entrar en el hide, muy confortable por cierto, y nos recogieron a las 10 en el punto de encuentro.

One of the advantages of this dunghill was that you did not have to get up early to enter in its hide, very comfortable by the way, and they picked us up at 10 at the meeting point.

En esta ocasión las piezas que se pusieron fueron dos jabalíes y en un tronco cercano un conejo de campo. 

On this occasion, there were put on two Wild Boars and a Rabbit in a nearby log.

Ya antes de ponernos el hide los buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) estaban sobrevolando la zona. En cuanto la carroña estuvo colocada comenzaron a bajar y posarse cerca de ella.

Even before we enter into the hide, Griffon Vultures were flying over the area. As soon as the carrion was in place they began to descend and landed colose to it.

Parece que tenían mucha hambre pues enseguida se llenó de buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) de todas las edades.

It seems that they were very hungry as they were immediately eating greedily. There were Griffon Vultures of all ages.

Un ruido indeseado en el hide hizo que todos se volviesen a mirar qué estaba ocurriendo.

An unwanted noise in the hide made everyone turn to look at what was happening.

Al comprobar que nada había cambiado, regresaron a su tarea.

As nothing had changed, they returned to their task.

Los buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) comenzaron a venir más tarde que los leonados (Gyps fulvus).

Black Vultures began to come later than Griffons Vultures.

Y se unieron al festín.

And they joined in the feast.

Y por fin pudimos comenzar con las fotos a los buitres negros (Aegypius monachus).

And finally we were able to start with the photos to Black Vultures.

Se trata del ave rapaz más grande de Europa y una de las aves más voluminosas de todo el mundo. Llega a alcanzar casi los 3 metros de envergadura y tiene un peso de entre 7 y 10 Kg. solo superado en España por los machos de la avutarda común (Otis tarda).

It is the largest bird of prey in Europe and one of the largest birds in the world. It reaches almost 3 meters in wingspan and weighs between 7 and 10 kg, only surpassed in Spain by males of the Great Bustard.

A diferencia del Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus), este necrófago es estrictamente forestal ya que hace sus nidos en encinares o pinares. España cuenta con la mayor población de todo el mundo y está distribuida en las serranías del cuadrante suroccidental de la península y  la isla de Mallorca. Recientemente, se está extendiendo por el sistema central, sierra bética, parameras de Burgos y los pirineos.

Unlike the Griffon Vulture, this ghoul is strictly forestry as it makes its nests in holm oaks or pine forests. Spain has the largest population in the world and is distributed in the mountains of the southwestern quadrant of the peninsula and the island of Mallorca. Recently, it is spreading through the central system, Sierra Betica, moorlands of Burgos and the Pyrenees.

Me encantó ver la manera en que los buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) se mueven amenazantes cuando hay mucho jaleo. En la imagen un adulto.

I loved seeing the way Black Vultures move menacingly when there is a lot of fuss. In the photo an adult.

A juvenile.

Otro. 

Another one.

Y entre tanto follón vino a por su presa un águila real (Aquila chrysaetos).

And in the midst of all the fuss, a Golden Eagle came for its prey.

Fue un encuentro breve pero intenso. Fijáos en sus garras. Impresionante.

It was a brief but intense meeting. Look at his clutches. Awesome.

Este joven del año estaba un poco más retraído que el resto. Su plumaje no está desgastado, pico e iris negros, gola no algodonosa y con plumas marrones en lugar de blancas.

This juvenile was a little more withdrawn than the rest. Their plumage is not worn, black beak and irises, non-cottony feathers at the base of the neck with brown feathers instead of white.

Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus) subadulto. Al tener el plumaje más desgastado puede deducirse que podría estar en su segundo o tercer año calendario. El pico aún lo tiene negruzco en lugar de color hueso, gola de plumas en la base del cuello no algodonosas y marrones y el iris oscuro.

Subadult Griffon Vulture. As it has most worn plumage it can be deduced that it could be in its second or third calendar year. The bill is still blackish instead of bone-colored, ruff of feathers at the base of the neck not cottony and it is brown and the iris is dark.

Este otro posiblemente un año o dos mayor.

This other possibly a year or two older.

Un adulto, 7 o más años.

An adult, 7 or more years.

Más buitres seguían llegando.

More vultures kept coming.

Buitre negro (Aegypius monachus) joven. Tiene un plumaje poco desgastado y con una apariencia más cercana al negro que en los adultos. La cara la tiene cubierta por un plumón negro en si totalidad y la cera del pico es menos azulada, tirando más al rosa. Las plumas de la gola son más largas y más negras que en los adultos.

Juvenile Black Vulture. It has a little worn plumage and an appearance closer to black than in adults. The face is covered by a black down in its entirety and the wax of the beak is less bluish, tending more to the pink one. The feathers at the back base of the neck are longer and blacker than in adults.

Subadulto.

Subadult.

Adulto. Plumaje menos negro que el joven, más pardo oscuro, la cera del pico más azulada y al plumón de la cabeza más pardo oscuro y no tan negro. 

Adult. Plumage less black than the young, darker brown, the wax of the beak more bluish and the down of the head darker brown and not so black.

También pasó sobrevolando el hide este juvenil de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti). Me imagino que acudió atraída por tanto buitre que allí se había concentrado y quiso ver si había algo para ella.

This juvenile Spanish Imperial Eagle also flew over the hide. I imagine that it came attracted by so much vulture that was concentrated there and wanted to see if there was something for it.

Según la comida se iba acabando los buitres comenzaban a pelearse con mayor empeño.

As food was running out, vultures began to fight with greater determination.

Y ya os dejo con algunas fotos más de lo que pude fotografiar en esa inolvidable mañana.
