En esta ocasión os muestro lo que pudimos ver en un viaje privado de tres días para hacer fotografías a las perdices pardillas (Perdix perdix).

On this occasion I show you what we could see on a private trip of three days to photograph the Gray Partridge.

En España tenemos la subespecie hispaniensis que es un endemismo de la península ibérica. A diferencia del resto de las aves europeas que se encuentran en zonas de llanuras, la española se ha especializado en zonas de denso matorral combinado con praderas en las montañas con alturas superiores a los 1.100 metros y que suele estar ligada con zonas en donde el pastoreo es frecuente.

In Spain we have the subspecies hispaniensis which is an endemism of the Iberian Peninsula. Unlike the rest of the European birds found in plains areas, the Spanish has specialized in areas of dense scrub combined with grasslands in the mountains with heights greater than 1,100 meters and which is usually linked to areas where cattle grazing is frequent.

Su distribución dentro de la Península Ibérica se circunscribe a los macizos montañosos del tercio norte en tres núcleos principales: Pirineos, Sistema Ibérico Occidental y Cordillera Cantábrica. Por desgracia esta especie ha sufrido una drástica regresión en los últimos años y se encuentra catalogada en el Libro Rojo de las aves de España (2004) como “Vulnerable”.

Its distribution within the Iberian Peninsula is limited to the mountainous massifs of the northern third in three main areas: Pyrenees, Western Iberian System and Cantabrian Mountains. Unfortunately this species has suffered a drastic regression in recent years and is listed in the Red Book of the birds of Spain (2004) as "Vulnerable."

EL tiempo estuvo regular pues tanto el primer día como el tercero estuvo con niebla lo que dificulto tremendamente la toma de fotografías. SIn embargo, en los tres días las pudimos ver a placer.

The weather was regular because both the first day and the third day were foggy which made it extremely difficult to take pictures. However, in the three days we could see them at pleasure.

Este es el escenario donde estuvimos en busca de las perdices Pardillas (Perdix perdix) los tres días. Todos los avistamientos los realizamos en alturas superiores a los 1.500 metros.

This is the scenario where we were in search of the Gray Partridges during the three days. All sightings are made at heights above 1,500 meters above sea level.

Es una zona situada en la provincia de León muy cerca ya de Asturias.

It is an area located in the province of León, very close to Asturias.

El sitio es muy bonito aunque con muy pocos árboles.

The place is very beautiful although with very few trees.

Este fue nuestro primer encuentro con la especie ya muy tarde el primer día. Estaban bastante cerca y se fueron corriendo al ver el coche. No pudimos contar cuantos ejemplares iban en el grupo.

This was our first sighting of the species already very late during the first day. They were quite close and ran away when they saw our car. We could not count how many Birds were in the flock.

Cuando bajábamos al hotel vimos y disfrutamos de un bando de trece aves que estaban en mitad de la carretera. Como podéis apreciar la foto es meramente testimonial pues era ya casi noche cerrada y no había llevado flash. Está tomada solamente con la luz de los faros del coche.

When we were returning to the hotel we saw and enjoyed a flock of thirteen Birds that were in the middle of the road. As you can see the photo is merely testimonial as it was completely dark and  I had not carried a flash. It is taken only with the light of the headlights of the car.

A la mañana siguiente subimos a ver si veíamos alguno de los dos bandos del día anterior pero no hubo suerte. Por ello nos dedicamos al medio día a ver que otras aves podíamos ver. Además, para colmo de males, había una batida de cazadores en donde el día anterior habíamos visto a las perdices pardillas (Perdix perdix). No se privaron de nada, eran unos cuantos con perros incluidos. Espero que hayan respetado la prohibición de matar esta especie.

Next morning we went up to see if we could watch any of the two flocks of the previous day but there was no luck. That is why we decided at noon to see what other birds we could spot. In addition, to make matters worse, there was a bunch of hunters where the day before we had seen the Gray Partridges. They were not deprived of anything, they were quite a few with dogs included. I hope they have respected the ban on killing this species.

Otra de las especies que por el centro peninsular no se ven, el carbonero palustre (Poecile palustris).

Another species that can not be seen through the peninsular center, the Marsh Tit.

Preciosa ave.

Beautiful bird.

Este gato me gustó un montón a pesar de no ser un gato montés.

I liked this Cat a lot despite not being a Wildcat.

Vimos varias garzas reales (Ardea cinerea).

We saw several Grey Herons.

Y algunos piquituertos comunes (Loxia curvirostra).

And some Common Crossbill.

Rebeco cantábrico (Rupicapra rupicapra).

Cantabrian Chamois.

Ya muy de noche las perdices pardillas (Perdix perdix) se pusieron a comer. Una pena que salieran tan tarde pues ya no había casi luz.

Already at dusk Gray Partridge began to eat. A pity that they had appear so late because there was almost no light.

Ya el tercer día las volvimos a ver y estaban muy activas pero la luz era muy pobre y las fotos no son todo lo buenas que hubiese querido.

Already on the third day we saw them again and they were very active but the light was very poor and the photos are not as good as I would  liked.

Que bonitas son. Es una pena que no las vea más a menudo.

How beautiful they are. It's a shame I don't see them more often.

Al poco rato de estar viéndolas empezó a bajar la niebla. 

Soon after seeing them, fog began to go down.

Y cuando se pusieron a descansar la niebla era muy densa.

And when they got to rest the fog was very dense.

Os dejo un cutre vídeo de las perdices pardillas (Perdix perdix) comiendo.

Como las previsiones meteorológicas eran que empeoraba el tiempo, decidimos acercarnos a Asturias para poder fotografiar a los camachuelos comunes (Pyrrhula pyrrhula). Tengo un amigo que me había dicho que se les podía sacar muy bonitas fotos desde el coche.

As the weather forecasts were that the weather was getting worse, we decided to approach to Asturias to be able to photograph Common Bullfinch. I have a friend who had told me that we could take very nice phothos from the car.

Al poco rato de llegar ya vimos los primeros ejemplares. En esta especie, el dimorfismo sexual es muy acusado.

Shortly after arriving we saw the first specimens. In this species, sexual dimorphism is very pronounced.

El macho es el más llamativo.

Male is the most striking.

Esta es una de mis especies preferidas.

This is one of my favorite species.

Me encanta el detalle rosa en las plumas finales del dorso.

I love the pink detail in the final feathers on the back.

La hembra es menos vistosa pero también es preciosa.

Female is less colorful but also very beautiful.

Son impresionantes.

They are awesome.

También pudimos fotografiar a los también bonitos petirrojos europeos (Erithacus rubecula).

We were also able to photograph the beautiful European Robins.

Bueno, si es que todos son bonitos. Carbonero común (Parus major).

Well, if they are all pretty. Great Tit.

Trepador azul (Sitta europaea).

European Nuthatch.

Había también bastantes arrendajos euroasiáticos (Garrulus glandarius).

There were also many Eurasian jays.

Herrerillo común (Cyanistes caeruleus).

Blue Tit.

Hembra de pinzón vulgar (Fringilla coelebs).

Female Common Chaffinch.

Y para finalizar otra belleza, el herrerillo capuchino (Lophophanes cristatus).

And finally another beauty, the Crested Tit.
