Esta vez os muestro algunas de las aves que vimos en nuestro viaje programado el 1 de febrero a la Sierra Oeste de Madrid y Torrijos en Toledo para ver grandes rapaces y aves esteparias. 

This time I show you some of the birds we saw on our scheduled trip on February 1 to the Sierra Oeste of Madrid and Torrijos in Toledo to see large Raptors and steppe Birds.

El tiempo fue muy bueno y la excursión también. Pudimos ver todas las aves que estaban previstas a excepción de las gangas ibéricas (Pterocles alchata) que no quisieron aparecer. De todos modos, no me extrañó mucho pues al ser época de caza todas las aves esteparias estaban muy asustadizas.

The weather was very good and the tour too. We could see all Birds that were planned except for the Pin-tailed Sandgrouse that did not want to appear. Anyway, I was not very surprised because being a hunting season all steppe Birds were very elusive.

Todo el mundo se presentó a la hora convenida y no hubo ningún problema en la salida. A los 8 de la mañana pusimos rumbo a la sierra Oeste de Madrid.

Everyone showed up at the agreed time and there was no problem on the start time. At 8 o'clock in the morning we headed to the Sierra Oeste of Madrid.

Además de haber muchas aves rapaces, el lugar es precioso y el paseo que nos dimos muy cómodo y sin dificultad.

In addition to having many Birds of prey, the place is very beautiful and the walk we made very comfortable and without difficulty.

Antes de llegar a nuestro destino y después de un rápido desayuno de chocolate con churros una pareja de águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti) nos hizo detenernos para observarlas. 

Before arriving at our destination and after a quick breakfast of chocolate with churros, a couple of Spanish Imperial Eagles made us stop to observe them.

Estaban a bastante distancia por lo que decidí sacar un video con el teléfono móvil para poder enseñaroslas pues, entre la distancia y la falta de luz, la fotografía no iba a ser nada buena.

They were quite a distance away, so I decided to take a video with my mobile phone so I could show them because, between the distance and the lack of light, the picture was not going to be good.

Ya llevábamos un rato paseando y habíamos visto bastantes buitres pero la primera foto que hice fue a esta águila real (Golden Eagle) que nos sobrevoló.

We had been walking for a while and we had seen many Vultures but the first photo I took was to this Golden Eagle that flew over us.

Un par de cuervos grandes (Corvus corax) merodeaba por la zona.

Y de nuevo volvimos a observar un águila real (Aquila chrysaetos). Me imagino que sería la misma que habíamos visto hacía un rato.

And again we observed a Golden Eagle. I imagine it would be the same one we had seen a while ago.

Estos fueron los primeros buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) que pasaron relativamente cerca de donde estábamos.

These were the first Black Vultures that passed relatively close to where we were.

Este día había más buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) que leonados (Gyps fulvus) y no es la primera vez que me ocurre esto en esta zona. 

This day there were more Black Vultures than Griffon Vultures and this is not the first time this has happened to me in this area.

Una pareja de águilas reales (Aquila chrysaetos).

Como teníamos que cumplir con un horario, pues de lo contrario no íbamos a llegar a la zona de Torrijos, decidimos volver a la furgoneta pues ya eran las 12:00. En el camino de regreso vimos esta águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) subadulta. Como la foto es tan mala no me atrevo a aventurar que edad tiene.

As we had to meet a schedule, because otherwise we were not going to reach the Torrijos area, we decided to return to the van because it was already 12:00. On the way back we saw this subadult Spanish Imperial Eagle. As the photo is so bad I dare not venture how old it is.

Otra vez una de las águilas reales (Aquila chrysaetos) de la pareja que habíamos visto antes.

Again one of the Golden Eagles of the couple we had seen before.

Creo que se trataba del primer ejemplar que vimos por la mañana pues al no tener ninguna falta en las plumas es difícil saber si se trata del mismo ejemplar. Además, al estar en su zona me imagino que en esta època hubiese sido echada por la pareja de este lugar.

I think it was the first Bird we saw in the morning because if it does not have any lack of feathers it is difficult to know if it is the same specimen. In addition, being in his area I imagine that at this time it had been harassed by the couple of this place.

También vimos una pareja de águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti) en el camino de vuelta a la furgoneta.

We also saw a couple of Spanish Imperial Eagle on the way back to the van.

En el camino de ida a Torrijos volvimos a pararnos para ver la pareja de Águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti) que habíamos visto por la mañana. En esta ocasión estaban más cerca pero la refracción se notaba mucho más por el telescopio terrestre.

On the way to Torrijos we stopped again to see the couple of Spanish Imperial Eagle that we had seen in the morning. This time they were closer but the refraction was much more noticeable in the ground telescope.

También paramos en Navas del Rey a comprar unos bocadillos y nos sorprendieron otras tres águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti). La mañana no estuvo nada mal.

We also stopped at Navas del Rey to buy some sandwiches and we were surprised by three other Spanish Imperial Eagles. A very good morning.

Las llanuras cerealistas donde se desarrolló la segunda parte de nuestro viaje.

The cereal plains where the second part of our trip took place.

Había varios grupos de avutardas comunes (Otis tarda). Uno muy numeroso pero al estar lejos y a contraluz no saqué ninguna foto pero las contamos con el telescopio y había más de 70 ejemplares.

There were several flock of Great Bustards. One of them very numerous but being far and backlit I did not take any photo. but we counted them with the telescope and there were more than 70 Birds.

Siento ser tan pesado pues siempre os comento que me sorprende ver lo bien que vuelan estas pesadas aves.

I am sorry to tell you always the same. I am surprised to see how well these heavy Birds fly.

Estos fueron los segundo sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax) que nos encontramos. Los primeros estaban tan cerca de la carretera general que no pudimos parar aunque era muy numeroso.

These were the second Little Bustard that we found. The first were so close to the general road that we could not stop although it was very numerous.

También encontramos dos bandos muy numerosos de gangas ortega (Pterocles orientalis) pro alzaban el vuelo a increible distancia nuestra. Debía ser que esa mañana había habido muchos cazadores por el campo.

We also found two very numerous flocks of Black-bellied Sandgrouse, but they take off at an incredible distance from us. It must be that there had been many hunters in the field that morning.

Este fue el que más cerca tuvimos.

This was the closest we had.

En esta foto he contado 32 pero son tan miméticos que puede que se me haya escapado alguna.

In this photo I have counted 32 but they are so mimetic that I may have missed some.

Fuimos a ver si veíamos la concentración prenupcial de los sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax) pero este día no se encontraban donde los he visto en otras ocasiones. Al ser un sábado y estar muy cerca de una urbanización igual se habían desplazado o dispersado ese día. Esta es una foto de archivo.

We went to see if we could find the prenuptial concentration of Little Bustards but this day they were not where I have seen them on other occasions. Being a Saturday and being very close to a village perhaps they had moved or dispersed that day. This is a file photo.

Ya anocheciendo volvimos a encontrarnos con el bando de sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax) que habíamos visto al llegar a la zona y allí continuaban pero demasiado cerca del camino y se fueron volando.

At sun set we met again with the flock of Little Bustards we had seen when we arrived at the area and they continued there but too close to the road and flew away.
