En esta ocasión me contrataron para ver carracas europeas (Coracias garrulus) y decidí llevarles a los llanos de Cáceres que es uno de los lugares donde nunca fallan.

This time I was hired to watch European Rollers and I decided to take them to the plains of Cáceres that is one of the places where they never fail.

El día no fue muy bueno pues en algunos momentos estaba nublado y hacía mucho viento.

The day was not very good because at times was cloudy and was very windy.

Como el trayecto desde Madrid es largo decidí hacer un par de paradas por el camino a ver si podíamos ver algunas otras aves.

As the route from Madrid is long lasting I decided to make a couple of stops along the way to see if we could watch some other birds.

Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus).

Griffon Vulture.

Aguila calzada (Aquila pennata) fase clara.

White phase of Booted Eagle.

Culebrera europea (Circaetus gallicus).

Short-toed Eagle.

Garza real (Ardea cinerea).

Grey Heron.

En una isleta de una charca había unas cuantas cigüeñuelas comunes (Himantopus himantopus) incubando. Cuando vi que unas vacas se acercaban a ellas me temí lo peor pues me imaginé que podían destruir sus nidos aunque no fuese de manera intencionada.

On an islet of a pond there were a few Black-winged Stilts incubating. When I saw some cows approached them I feared the worst because I figured it could destroy their nests though not intentionally.

Que grandes defensoras son de sus nidos. Se enfrentaban a ellas con mucho ruido aunque yo creo que las vacas tenían bastante cuidado y evitaban aplastar los nidos. Debían oler los huevos o algo así.

They are great defenders of their nests. They faced them noisily but I think that the cows had enough care and avoiding crushing the nests. They should smell their eggs or something like that.

Al final volvió la calma y las cigüeñuelas comunes (Himantopus himantopus) continuaron con su incubación.

In the end calm returned and the Black-winged Stilts continued incubating.

Cuando íbamos a llegar a nuestro destino final vimos la segunda carraca europea (Coracias garrulus) del día aunque la primera no se dejó fotografiar.

When we were going to reach our final destination we saw the second European Roller of the day although the first one did not want to be photographed.

También habíamos visto varios alcaudones reales meridionales (Lanius meridionalis). En la foto un joven.

We had also seen several Southern Grey Shrikes. The photo shows a young.

Las cigüeñas blancas (Ciconia ciconia) estaban por muchos lugares de los visitados. Esta en concreto tenia tres hermosos pollos.

White Storks were in many of the places visited. In particular this had three beautiful offsprings.

Había bastantes cogujadas comunes (Galerida cristata).

There were quite a few Crested Larks.

Y algunas avutardas comunes (Otis tarda).

And some Great Bustards.

Este fue el único macho de aguilucho cenizo (Circus pygargus) que vimos a lo largo del día aunque no me extraña pues el fuerte viento hacía más difícil su localización.

This was the only male Montagu's Harrier we saw throughout the day but I'm not surprised because the strong wind made it more difficult to see.

Ya en nuestro destino comenzamos a disfrutar de las preciosas y escasas carracas europeas (Coracias garrulus).

Already in our destiny we began to enjoy the beautiful and scarce European Rollers.

Alguno de las cajas nido estaban ocupados por mochuelos europeos (Athene noctua).

Some of the nest boxes were occupied by Little Owls.

Y también había varios cernícalos primillas (Falco naumanni).

And there was also several Lesser Kestrels.

En menor medida los cernícalos vulgares (Falco tinnunculus).

To a lesser extent the Common Kestrels.

Cuando decidimos regresar lo hicimos por carreteras secundarias para continuar viendo más aves. En la foto una collalba negra macho (Oenanthe leucura).

When we decided to come back we did it by secondary roads to be able to continue searching more birds. In the photo a male of Black Wheatear.
