Osos pardos cantábricos en Somiedo. Cantabrian Brown Bears in Somiedo.

En esta ocasión os muestro lo que pudimos ver en una excursión organizada a principios de septiembre para ver al oso pardo cantábrico (Ursus arctos arctos). 

This time I show you what we could spot on an scheduled trip at the beginning of September to observe the Cantabrian brown bear.

Como los osos no suelen salir a comer en las horas centrales del día, de camino hacia Pola de Somiedo hicimos dos paradas que estaban previstas en el itinerario marcado en el folleto de venta. La primera de ellas para ver avutardas comunes (Otis tarda) y la segunda para enseñar a los cliente las grajas (Corvus frugilegus), ave escasa en España y restringida a un solo núcleo reproductor en la provincia de León.

As bears do not usually go out to eat in the middle of the day, on the way to Pola de Somiedo we made two stops that were planned in the itinerary marked in the sales brochure. The first one to see Great Bustards and the second to show clients Rooks, a scarce Bird in Spain and restricted to a single breeding nucleus in the province of León.

Como me tenia que ocupar del telescopio, la mayoría de las fotos fueron sacadas por uno de los clientes y que amablemente me las ha enviado para que pudiese hacer el blog. Muchas gracias Antón.

Since I had to take care of the telescope, most of the photos were taken by one of the clients who kindly sent them to me so I could make the blog. Thank you very much Antón.

Pero primero de empezar el relato, quiero presentaros a este oso que tuvo a bien estar en un prado cercano y que nos permitió sacarle unas cuantas fotos. Fue toda una suerte que no se si se volverá a repetir pues no es fácil tenerlos tan cerca.

But first to start the story, I want to introduce you to this bear who was kind enough to be in a nearby meadow and who allowed us to take a few photos of him. It was such a luck that I don't know if it will be repeated because it is not easy to have them so close.

En la autopista AP 6 hice una parada para contemplar esta bella águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti).

On the AP 6 highway I made a stop to see this beautiful Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Nada mas llegar a Villafáfila, pudimos contemplar los primeros bando de avutarda común (Otis tarda). Durante el corto recorrido pudimos ver muchas.

As soon as we arrived at Villafáfila, we were able to spot the first flocks of Great Bustards. During the short tour we could see many.

Siempre me impresiona ver lo bien que vuelas estas pesadas aves.

I am always impressed by how well fly these heavy Birds.

También pudimos contemplar este lejano ejemplar inmaduro de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti).

We were also able to see this distant immature specimen of Spanish Imperial Eagle.

Después del recorrido por Villafáfila pusimos rumbo a León. Al llegar a un punto cercano a León capital, pudimos contemplar un numeroso bando de grajas (Corvus frugilegus). 

After the tour of Villafáfila we headed for León. Arriving at a point near the capital of León, we were able to see a large flock of Rooks. 

Esta águila calzada (Aquila pennata) morfo claro causó el pánico entre todas las aves que allí estaban.

This Booted Eagle pale morph caused panic among all Birds that were there.

Y todas las grajas Corvus frugilegus) se fueron muy lejos.

And all Rooks (Corvus frugilegus) went far away.

En Somiedo, hacíamos dos esperas al día tratando de ver a los osos, una muy temprano por la mañana y la otra por la tarde hasta el anochecer. El resto del día lo dedicábamos a hacer excursiones para conocer los bonitos paisajes y lugares de los alrededores de Somiedo. La primera tarde, después de dejar las maletas en el hotel, fuimos hasta el observatorio del pueblo de Gúa. Tuvimos suerte y vimos 4 osos. Una madre con dos oseznos y un macho.

We made two waits a day trying In Somiedo, we waited twice a day trying to spot Bears, one very early in the morning and the other in the afternoon until dusk. The rest of the day was dedicated to make excursions to see the beautiful landscapes and places around Somiedo. The first afternoon, after leaving our suitcases at the hotel, we went to the observatory in the town of Gúa. We were lucky and saw 4 Bears. A mother with two cubs and a male.

Este es el artilugio que utilizo para saca los vídeos que subo en los blogs. Es un adaptador para el teléfono móvil y con el saco los vídeos. Además, varias persona a la vez pueden ver lo que  el telescopio está captando.

This is the gadget that I use to make the videos that I upload on the blogs. It is an adapter for the cell phone and with it I make the videos. In addition, several people at the same time can see what the telescope is capturing.

También pudimos contemplar una osa con dos oseznos. No había sacado aun el adaptador y no saqué ningún vídeo.

We were also able to see a female bear with her two cubs. I hadn't taken out the adapter yet and I didn't take any video.

La espera de la mañana siguiente.

Había un grupo de ciervos comunes (Cervus elaphus).

There was a group of Red Deer.

Un rebeco cantábrico (Rupicapra pyrenaica).

A Cantabrian Chamois.

Cuando íbamos hacia los lagos de Saliencia, en una zona despejada del bosque y muy cerca de la carretera, vimos a este bonito macho. No creo que vuelva a ver a un ejemplar de esta especie tan de cerca. Tuvimos muchísima suerte.

When we were going towards the Saliencia Lakes, in a clear area of ​​the forest and very close to the road, we saw this beautiful male. I don't think I will ever see a specimen of this species so close again. We were very lucky.

Este toro llamó mi atención.

This Bull caught my eye.

Una de las cabañas típicas de esta zona llamadas cabaña de Teito. Está hecha de piedra y el tejado es de escoba.

One of the typical Cottage in this area called Teito Cottege. It is made of stone and the roof is made of broom.

Vimos varios sapos pequeños en durante el recorrido.

We saw several small Toads during the tour.

Los serbales de los cazadores (Sorbus aucuparia) estaban con sus bayas ya maduras. Estaban preciosos.

Rowan Trees were with their berries already ripe. They were very beautiful.

Vimos varios jóvenes de roquero rojo (Monticola saxatilis).

We saw several Rufous-tailed Rock Thrush juveniles.

Busardo ratonero (Buteo buteo).

Common Buzzard.

Cuervo grande (Corvus corax).

Common Raven.

Acentor común (Prunella modularis).

Dunnock.

Durante la espera de la tarde vimos esta osa con sus dos oseznos.

During the afternoon wait we saw this female Bear with her two Cubs.

A la mañana siguiente lo mejor de todo fue esta hembra de oso con su osezno. La pudimos ver durante mucho tiempo como iba comiendo avellanas.

The next morning the best of all was this female Bear with her cub. We could see her for a long time as she was eating hazelnuts.

También pudimos observar dos zorros comunes (Vulpes vulpes).

We were also able to observe two Red Foxes.

Después, volvimos al hotel a desayunar y a continuación hicimos una excursión hasta la Braña de Mumian. Una bonita excursión en donde se puede ver un poblado de teitos (Braña) que usaban los ganaderos para guardar por la noche el ganado en primavera y otoño. 

Afterwards, we returned to the hotel for breakfast and then make an excursion to the Braña de Mumian. A nice excursion where you can see a village of teitos (Braña) that ranchers used to to keep cattle at night in spring and autumn.

El paisaje es precioso.

Landscape is beautiful.

Uno de los 17 teitos de esta braña. Esta edificación consta de dos piso en el que en el superior se almacenaba el heno y en la parte de abajo el ganadero y el ganado.

One of the 17 teitos of this braña. This building consists of two floors in which the hay was stored on the upper floor and the rancher and cattle were stored on the lower part.

La ollera de esta braña es una de las más bellas de todas las que se pueden encontrar en Somiedo. Son Cavidades construidas contra un talud y otras veces excavadas en el suelo y con una boca cuadrada hecha con piedra tallada. Por su interior suele discurrir una corriente de agua que, al estar muy fría, enfriaba el ambiente en su interior y se podía mantener la leche y los alimentos frescos.

The ollera of this braña is one of the most beautiful of all that can be found in Somiedo. They are Cavities built against a slope and other times excavated in the ground and with a square mouth made of carved stone. A current of water usually runs through it, which, being very cold, cooled the environment inside and could keep milk and food fresh.

En la excursión, pudimos ver a este rebeco cantábrico (Rupicapra pyrenaica).

On the excursion, we were able to spot this Cantabrian Chamois.

Varios buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus).

Several Griffon Vultures.

Un abejero europeo (Pernis apivorus).

A n European Honey-buzzard.

Pinzón vulgar (Fringilla coelebs). EL de la foto es un macho.

Common Chaffinch. The one in the photo is a male.

Cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus).

Common Kestrel.

Y muchos pardillos comunes (Linaria cannabina). Vimos mas especies de aves pero solo he comentado las que se pudieron fotografiar.

And many common linnets (Linaria cannabina). We saw more species of birds but I have only commented on those that could be photographed.

Como resumen, deciros que fue un viaje estupendo en el que pudims ver osos en todas las esperas que hicimos. En total 11 ejemplares y uno a 30 metros, no está nada mal.

As a summary, I can tell you that it was a great trip in which we were able to see bears in all waits we made. In total 11 specimens and one at 30 meters, not bad at all.
