Esta semana decidí acercarme a ver como estaban las aves esteparias por la provincia de Toledo, concretamente por las inmediaciones de Torrijos. 

This week I decided to go to see how the steppe birds were in the province of Toledo, specifically in the vicinity of Torrijos.

El tiempo fue buenos y soleado con una temperatura muy agradable, máxima de 18º centígrados. 

The weather was good and sunny with a very pleasant temperature, a maximum of 18º Celsius.

Tuve bastante suerte en cuanto al avistamiento de las aves se refiere pues pude contemplar las cuatro especies que quería ver y que luego os muestro. En cuanto a las fotos, no hubo tanta suerte pues no tuve a casi nadie cerca y cuando estaban cerca, a contraluz. En otra ocasión tendrá que ser.

I was quite lucky in terms of bird watching because I was able to contemplate the four species that I wanted to see and that I will show you later. As for the photos, there was not so much luck because I had almost no one around and when they were close, they were against light. On another occasion it will have to be.

De camino a mi destino hice una parada en una cuadra abandonada y estuve disfrutando mucho viendo a los cernícalos primillas (Falco naumanni). En la foto un macho.

On the way to my destiny I made a stop in an abandoned stable and I was really enjoying watching Lesser kestrel. In the photo a male.

Female.

Ya en mi destino, lo primero que vi fue una pareja de perdices rojas (Alectoris rufa). Recuerdo cuando hace años en un paseo como el que me di se veían muchas. Ahora me alegra cuando veo una pues cada vez se ven menos.

At my destination, the first thing I saw was a pair of Red-legged Partridge. I remember when years ago, on a walk like the one I made, many were seen. Now I'm happy when I see one because very few are left.

Un macho muy lejano de aguilucho pálido (Circus cyaneus).

A very distant male Hen Harrier.

Solo pude observar este grupo de ganga ortega (Pterocles orientalis).

I was only able to watched this group of Black-bellied Sandgrouse.

Estaba compuesto por tres macho y dos hembras.

It was made up of three males and two females.

Una pareja de alcaudones reales meridionales (Lanius meridionalis).

A pair of Southern Grey Shrike.

Había muchos escribanos trigueros (Miliaria calandra).

There were many Corn Buntings.

Mochuelo europeo (Athene noctua).

Little Owl.

Avutardas comunes (Otis tarda). Vi varios grupos y dos de ellos muy numerosos pero muy lejanos y en vuelo. Este otro grupo no era numeroso y se espantaron a bastante distancia.

Great Bustards (Otis tard). I saw several groups and two of them very numerous but very far away and in flight. This other group was not numerous and they were frightened at quite a distance.

Para hacerlas fotos es mejor que sean muy pocas o, mejor aun, una pues aguantan más proximidad. En un grupo grande siempre hay alguna que es más miedosa y se espanta antes que las demás pero todas la acaban siguiendo.

To take photos it is better if they are very few or, better still, one because they hold more proximity. In a large group there is always someone who is more fearful and scares before the others but they all end up following it.

Siempre me impresiona ver lo bien que pueden llegar a volar este ave que es tan pesada.

It always amazes me how well this heavy bird can fly.

Me costó mucho localizar a los sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax) pues los sembrados estaban muy altos y les vi en en este sembrado de leguminosas que estaba más bajo.

It was very difficult for me to find the Little Bustard because crops were very high and I saw them in this legume field which was lower.

Un vídeo de el primer sisón común (Tetrax tetrax) que vi. Francamente difíciles de ver cuando están posados en los campos.

A video of the first Little Bustard I saw. Frankly difficult to spot when they are on fields.

Los machos ya tenían el plumaje nupcial.

Males already had the breeding plumage.

Entre ellos pude ver un grupo de ganga ibérica (Pterocles alchata). Os subo un video de cuando me di cuenta que estaban con los sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax).

Among them I could spot a group of Pin-tailed Sandgrouse. I upload a video when I realized that they were with the Little Bustards.

Luego vi otros grupos volando.

Then I saw other flocks flying.

Este fue el más numeroso.

This was the most numerous.
