Esta entrada es sobre un viaje de tres días a Picos de Europa a finales del mes de julio para ver, principalmente, aves alpinas.
This post is about a three-day trip to Picos de Europa at the end of July to mainly see Alpine Birds.
Un confiado arrendajo (Garrulus glandarius).
A tame Eurasian Jay.
Cuervo (Corvus corax).
Common Raven.
Algunas chovas piquigualdas (Pyrrhocorax graculus) son extremadamente confiadas y en cuanto ven a los visitantes sentarse para almorzar acuden a ellos en busca de comida. No he visto ningún cartel indicando que no se dé de comer a estas aves.
Some Yellow-billed Chough are extremely confident and when they see visitors sit for lunch they come looking for some food. I have not seen any sign indicating that you do not give food to these birds.
La mayoría de ellas están anilladas.
Most of them are ringed.
Vimos algunos rebecos cantábricos (Rupicapra parva).
We saw some Cantabrian Chamois.
Un bonito macho.
A beautiful male.
Avión roquero (Ptyonoprogne rupestris).
Crag Martin.
Acentor alpino (Prunella collaris).
Alpine Accentor.
Y muchos gorriones alpinos (Montifringillia nivalis). En la foto un adulto.
And many Snowfinches. In the picture an adult.
Iban en grupos familiares con sus jóvenes y aún les daban de comer. En una ocasión había a nuestro alrededor cinco familias.
They were in family groups with their juveniles and they were still feeding them. In an occasion there were five families around us.

Alimoche común (Neophron percnopterus).
Egyptian Vulture.
Busardo retonero (Buteo buteo).
Common Buzzard.
Vimos menos bisbitas alpinos (Anthus spinoletta) que el año pasado. Un adulto.
We saw less Water Pipits than last year. An adult.
Un joven.
A juvenile.
También tuvimos la gran suerte de ver varios treparriscos (Tichodroma muraria).
We also were very fortunate to see several Wallcreepers.
Preciosas aves.
Beautiful birds.
Y más gorriones alpinos (Montifringillia nivalis).
And some more Snowfinches.
Impresionante el vuelo de cortejo de estas aves.
Stunning courtship flight of these birds.

Águila calzada (Aquila pennata) morfo claro.
Booted Eagle pale morph.
Abejero europeo (Pernis apivorus).
European Honey-buzzard.
Macho adulto de roquero rojo (Monticola saxatilis).

Pardillos comunes (Carduelis cannabina). El macho en la derecha.

Había bastantes vacas.
There were plenty of cows.

Cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus).
Common Kestrel.
Pero sin duda los protagonistas del borde alpino eran los escribanos cerillos (Emberiza citrinella). No vimos ni una sola hembra/joven a pesar de estar a finales de julio y los machos estaban muy encelados.
But without doubt the protagonists of the Timber line were the Yellowhammers. We did not see a single female / young despite being in late July and meles were in heat.

Small Tortoiseshell.
Claveles silvestres (Dianthus hyssopifolius).

Me gusta mucho ir a Picos de Europa pues me recuerda a mi juventud ya que pasaba parte del verano con mis abuelos en este inigualable paraje.
I love going to Picos de Europa because it reminds me my youth when I was there with my grandparents during part of the summer.
El tiempo fue muy bueno aunque algo caluroso y el tercer día hubo algo de niebla por la mañana.
The weather was very good although somewhat hot and the third day there was some fog during the morning.
Estas son algunas de las aves que vimos durante este inolvidable viaje.
