Hello again.

En esta ocasión os muestro algunas de las aves que he visto en La Reserva Natural de las Lagunas de Villafáfila, provincia de Zamora. El día estuvo nublado aunque no hizo viento y la temperatura muy agradable.

In this occasion I show you some of the birds I've seen in a visit made this January to the Reserva Natural de las Lagunas de Villafáfila, Province of Zamora. The day was cloudy with no wind and a pleasant temperature.

En comparación con otras visitas que he realizado por estas mismas fechas en años anteriores he notado que había muchos menos ánsares comunes (Anser anser).

Compared to other visits I have made ​​on the same date in previous years I have noticed that there were far fewer Greylag Geese.

Sin embargo y como es habitual abundaban las avutardas comunes (Otis tarda). 

However and as usual Great Bustards were abundant.

Este fue el primer grupo de avutardas comunes (Otis tarda) que encontramos de camino a el humedal.

This was the first group of Great Bustards we found in our way to the wetland.

Y comprobamos como los machos adultos ya empiezan a lucir sus bigoteras preparándose para el cortejo.

And we could check as adult males are beginning to show off their mustaches getting ready for the breeding season.

Según llegamos a la laguna de Barrillos entraba este bando de ánsares comunes (Anser anser).

As we reached the Laguna de Barrilos some Greylag Geese were arriving.

Una bonita estampa de la Laguna de Barrillos con algunos ánsares comunes (Anser anser), cucharas comunes (Anas clypeata), cercetas comunes (Anas crecca) ánades frisos(Anas strepera), silbón europeo (Anas penelope) y muchas avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus).

A pretty picture of the Laguna de Barrillos. It held some Greylag Geese, Northern Shoveler, Common Teal, Gadwall, European Wigeon and many European Lapwings.

Luego pusimos rumbo a la Laguna de San Pedro en Villarín de Campos y volvimos a ver varias avutardas comunes (Otis tarda). En la foto un macho adulto.

Then we headed to the Laguna de San Pedro in Villarín de Campos and again we were able to observe several Great Bustards. The photo shows an adult male.

El la Laguna había poca cosa destacable. Lo que más me gustó fue esta simple hembra de colirrojo tizón (Phoenicurus ochruros).

In the Lagoon there was very little remarkable thing. What I most liked was this black redstart female.

Nuestro destino siguiente fue la Laguna Salina Grande. Antes de llegar al observatorio de Otero de Sariego vimos en la Laguna de las Salinas bastantes ánsares comunes (Anser anser). El los campos inundados cerca de la Laguna había un grupo de avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus) y otro de combatientes (Philomachus pugnax) que sobrevolaban la zona.

Our next destination was the Laguna Salina Grande. Before reaching the observatory of Otero de Sariego we saw plenty Greylag Geese at the Laguna de las Salinas. In the flooded fields close to the Laguna there was a group of European Lapwings  and another of Ruffs flying over the area.

No muy lejos pudimos observar a este halcón peregrino (Falco peregrinus).

Not far away we saw this Peregrine Falcon.

Y algunos grupos de ánsares comunes (Anser anser) acudían a la Laguna Salina Grande.

And some groups of Greylag Geese were going to the Laguna Salina Grande.

También iban ánades reales (Anas platyrhynchos).

They also were going some Mallards.

Ya en el observatorio de Otero de Sariegos algunos ánsares comunes (Anser anser) estaban tomando una siesta.

Already in the observatory of Otero de Sariegos some Greylag Geese were taking a siesta.

Y otros continuaban entrando a la Laguna.

Meanwhile some others continued entering to the lagoon.

Después de un buen rato observando las aves que había en la laguna decidimos dar unas vueltas por lo alrededores en busca de otras aves. Enseguida vimos a este cernicalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus ) que estaba cirniendose en busca de alguna presa.

After a while watching the birds that were in the lagoon we decided to ride around the area in search of other birds.The first thing we saw was this Common Kestrel  searching for food.

Había bastantes cogujadas comunes (Galerida cristata).

There were quite Crestad Larks.

Los aguiluchos laguneros occidentales (Circus aeruginosus) no paraban de sobrevolar la zona en busca de alimento.

Eurasian Marsh Harriers were flying over the area in search of food.

Los ánsares comunes (Anser anser) estaban bastante distribuidos a lo largo de las lagunas. Al fondo a la izquierda se ve a uno de ellos con un collar identificativo.

Greylag geese were well distributed among the lagoons. In the left side is one of them with an identifying ring-neck.

También abundaban las cornejas negras (Corvus corone).

There were also many Carrion Crows.

Mientras que íbamos por los caminos disfrutando de grupos de avutardas comunes (Otis tarda) nos encontramos con estos dos cadáveres. Estaban totalmente comidos y dimos parte a la Guardía Civil que se dirigió al lugar donde las habíamos visto por si había alguna señal identificativa de los mismos aunque yo no vi ninguna identificación. Que pena y que extraño encontrar a dos ejemplares muertos muy cerca el uno del otro.

While we were by the side roads enjoying groups of Great Bustards we find these two carcasses. Were completely eaten and I gave part to the Civil Guard. They immediatily went to the place where we had seen them just to see if there were any identifying marks although I did not see any. What a petty and strange to find two dead birds very close to each other.

Un par de estorninos pintos (Sturnus vulgaris).

Un magnífico grupo de machos de avutardas comunes (Otis tarda).

En esta zona había bastantes grupos esparcidos alimentándose por los sembrados.

In this area there were many scattered groups feeding on the fields.

En las múltiples lagunas que se habían formado por causa de las abundantes lluvias se podían observar varias especies de anátidas. En la foto una pareja de cucharas comunes (Anas clypeata) y un trío de cercetas comunes (Anas crecca).

In the many gaps that had formed because of the heavy rains could be observed several species of ducks. In the picture a couple of Northern Shoveler and a trio of Common Teal.

Este gorrión común (Passer domesticus) se fijaba mucho en nosotros a nuestro paso cerca suyo.

This House Sparrow was looking at us while we were passing close by.

A lo largo de la visita pudimos observar varios esmerejones (Falco columbarius).

Throughout the visit we observed several Merlins.

Entre este grupo de ánsares comunes (Anser anser) se podían contemplar varios silbones europeos (Anas penelope).

Among this group of Greylag Geese could be observe several European Wigeon.

Yo creo que la especie mas abundante eran las avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus).

I believe that the most abundant species were the European Lapwings.

También pudimos observar algunos bandos de perdices rojas (Alectoris rufa).

We also saw some flocks of Red-legged Partridges.

Y algunos bandos de pardillos comunes (Carduelis cannabina).

And some flocks of Linnets.

Por último fuimos a ver si podíamos ver la entrada de ansares comunes (Anser anser) a la Laguna de Salina Grande. En el tejado del observatorio de Otero de Sariego había una pareja de mochuelos europeos (Athene noctua).

Finally we went to see if we could observe the entry of Greylag Gueese to the Laguna Salina Grande. On the roof of the observatory of Otero de Sariego there was a couple of Little Owls.

En la laguna había algunos grupos de ánsares comunes (Anser anser) y haciendo un barrido con el teleobjetivo terrestre pude observar un macho de cerceta americana (Anas carolinensis) que estaba demasiado lejos para hacerle una fotografía.

In the lagoon there were some groups of Greylag Geese and by scanning with telescope I could see a male Green-winged Teal that was too far away to take it a photo.

Mientras esperábamos esta cogujada común (Galerida cristata) nos entretuvo un rato.

While we waited this Crested Lark entertained us for a while.

Y como había muy poca entrada de ánsares comunes (Anser anser) decidimos regresar a Madrid.

And as there was very little input of Greylag Geese we decided to return to Madrid.
