En esta ocasión os muestro lo que pude fotografiar en el viaje que hicimos al Parque Nacional de Everglades en Florida y en algunos parques públicos de Miami del 10 al 18 de febrero.

This time I show you what I was able to photograph on the trip we made to Everglades National Park in Florida and in some public parks in Miami from February 10 to 18.

El tiempo fue muy bueno y con unas temperaturas muy agradables, con máximas de 28 ºC. y mínimas de 20 ºC.

The weather was very good and with very pleasant temperatures, with maximums of 28 ºC. and minimums of 20 ºC.

Llegamos al aeropuerto internacional de Miami con algo de retraso y mientras que recogimos el coche y llegamos al hotel se nos hizo tarde y no pudimos visitar la zona cercana al hotel que estaba prevista para esa tarde. Esa visita la dejamos para la mañana del día 14.
We arrived at the Miami International Airport somewhat late and while we picked up the car and arrived at the hotel we were running late and we couldn't visit the area near the hotel that was scheduled for that afternoon. We left that visit for the morning of the 14th.

Los tres primeros días visitamos la zona sur del parque. Los dos siguientes fuimos a algunos parques de Miami y Cayo Vizcaino y le último día regresamos a la zona sur del Parque.
The first three days we visited the southern area of the Park. The next two we went to some parks in Miami and Key Vizcaino and on the last day we returned to the southern area of the Park.

En esta entrada os muestro los tres primeros días en la zona sur del parque y el cuarto día en algunos parque de Miami.

In this post I show you the first three days in the southern area of the Park and the fourth day in some parks in Miami.

El hotel en donde nos alojamos todas las noches del viaje cercano a la entrada sur de los Everglades.
The Hotel where we stayed every night of the trip was close to the southern entrance to the Everglades.

Domingo 11 de febrero: Coastal Prairie Trail – Eco Pond – Guy Bradley Trail - Centro de Visitantes Flamingo

Sunday February 11:  Coastal Prairie Trail – Eco Pond – Guy Bradley Trail – Flamingo Visitor Center

A la mañana siguiente, en el mismo parque del hotel antes de salir rumbo a Everglades, pudimos ver varias especies de aves. En la foto un ibis blanco (Eudocimus albus).

Next morning, in the same hotel park before leaving for the Everglades, we were able to see several species of Birds. In the photo a white ibis

Y a este macho de zenate marismeño (Quiscalus major).

And this Boat-tailed Grackle male.

Una parada obligatoria antes de entrar en materia.

A mandatory stop before getting into the subject.

No está nada mal comenzar con este busardo pechirrojo (Buteo lineatus).

It's not bad to start with this Red-shouldered Hawk.

Muy confiado por cierto.

Very confident by the way.

Este día visitamos en centro Flamingo y sus alrededores. Un precioso lugar.

This day we visited Flamingo center and its surroundings. A beautiful place.

Vimos varios carpinteros de Carolina (Melanerpes carolinus). En la foto una hembra.

We saw several Red-bellied Woodpecker. In the photo a female.

Y estos otros dos, machos.

And these other two, males.

Los martinetes coronados (Nyctanassa violacea) se estaban atiborrando a cangrejos. Adulto.

Yellow-crowned Night Heron were gorging themselves on Crabs. Adult.

Un inmaduro de ibis blanco (Eudocimus albus).

White Ibis immature.

Una de las cosas que más me gusta de Everglades es ver como las águilas pescadoras (Pandion haliaetus) se reproducen en los árboles de los párquines sin mostrar ningún recelo con la presencia de los visitantes del parque. Puedes estar justo debajo de sus nidos sin que ellas se molestan por tu presencia.

One of the things I like most about Everglades is seeing how Ospreys breed on parking trees without showing any suspicion of the presence of park visitors. You can be right under their nests without them being bothered by your presence.

Sus garras dan idea de la fuerza que en ellas tienen estas aves.

Their claws give an idea of the strength that these Birds have in them.

Pelícanos norteamericanos (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos). La primera vez que los veía y fotografiaba.

American White Pelican. The first time I saw and photographed them.

Otros que veía y fotografiaba por primera vez, los rayadores americanos (Rynchops niger). Fue una pena no haber podido sacar mejores fotos de ellos.

Others that I saw and photographed for the first time, the Black Skimmer. It was a shame not to have been able to take better photos of them.

Un andarríos maculado (Actitis macularius).

A Spotted Sandpiper.

Pelícanos pardos (Pelecanus occidentalis), gaviotas Guanaguanare (Leucophaeus atricilla) y un montón de rayadores americanos ((Rynchops niger).

Brown Pelicans, Laughing Gull and many Black Skimmer.

Garceta azul (Egretta caerulea).

Little Blue Heron.

Garza azulada (Ardea herodias).

Great Blue Heron.

Tuvimos la suerte de ver varios manatíes antillanos (Trichechus manatus).

We were lucky enough to spot several West Indian manatees.

La pareja de águilas pescadoras (Pandion haliaetus) que está criando en el puerto de Flamingo tenía tres pollos, dos en la imagen que estaban siendo cebados por su madre. 

The pair of Ospreys breeding in Flamingo Harbor had three chicks, two pictured being fed by their mother.

Un mosquitero fibí (Sayornis phoebe).

An Eastern Phoebe.

Vimos varios chingolos sabaneros (Passerculus sandwichensis). Otra nueva especie para mi.

We saw several Savannah Sparrow. Another new species to me.

Otra nueva especie la agujeta escolopácea (Limnodromus scolopaceus).

Another new species was the Long-billed Dowitcher.

Playero aliblanco (Tringa semipalmata).

Willet.

Correlimos común (Calidris alpina).

Dunlin.

Chorlito gris (Pluvialis squatarola).

Black-bellied Plover.

Un inmaduro de pigargo americano (Haliaeetus leucocephalus).  Da gusto tener un ave tan cerca y que no se espante.

En la rampa del puerto de Flamingo había dos cocodrilos americanos (Crocodylus acutus). Uno de ellos rondaba los 5 metros. Era inmenso.

On the ramp at Flamingo Harbor were two American crocodiles. One of them was around 5 meters. It was enormous.

Un ejemplar de la especie anterior de primer invierno.

Zopilote negro (Coragyps atratus).

Y de camino al hotel vimos, como más destacado,  este ciervo de los pantanos de Florida (Blastocerus extraneous).

And on the way to the Hotel we saw, as a highlight, this Florida Marsh Deer.

Antes de llegar a la entrada de Everglades, vi un grupo de miná común (Acridotheres tristis). Es una especie introducida oriunda de Asia.

Before reaching the entrance to the Everglades, I saw a group of Common Myna. It is an introduced species native to Asia.

Garza azulada (Ardea herodias). Con sus hasta 140 cm. de longitud, es una de las garzas de mayor tamaño que podemos encontrar.

Great Blue Heron. With its up to 140 cm. in length, it is one of the largest herons that we can find.

Anhinga Americana (Anhinga anhinga).

Anhinga.

En mitad de la carretera vimos esta tortuga de caja de Florida (Terrapene carolina bauri). Se trata de una subespecie endémica de Florida.

In the middle of the road we saw this Florida Box Turtle. It is a subspecies endemic to Florida.

Garcilla verde (Butorides virescens) la más pequeña de las que se ven por allí.

Vimos muchos pelicanos norteamericanos (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos)  en vuelo.

We saw many American White Pelican in flight.

Un joven de pelícano pardo (Pelecanus occidentalis).

A juvenile Brown Pelican.

Tántalo americano (Mycteria americana).

Wood Stork.

Garceta grande (Ardea alba).

Great Egret.

Ibis blanco (Eudocimus albus).

White Ibis.

Había muchas bromelias.

There were many Bromeliads.

Y alguna de ellas estaban en flor.

And some of them were blooming.

Había muchísimas reinitas palmera (Setophaga palmarum).

There were many Palm Warblers.

Mientras almorzábamos en un merendero, vimos a esta pareja de toquí flanquirrufo (Pipilo erythrophthalmus). Era la primera vez que los veía y fotografiaba. En estas fotos el macho.

While we were having lunch at a picnic area, we saw this pair of Eastern Towhee. It was the first time I saw and photographed them. In these photos the male.

Y en estas otras la hembra.

And in these others the female.

También acudió cerca de la mesa donde estábamos una pareja de cardenal norteño (Cardinalis cardinalis). La hembra no quiso que la fotografiásemos pero el macho se dejaba ver mucho mejor. 

A pair of Northern Cardinals also came near the table where we were. The female did not want us to photograph her but the male showed much better.

Me gusta muchísimo esta especie.

I really like this species.

Otra ave mu curiosa que nos amenizó el almuerzo fue este sinsonte norteño (Mimus polyglottos).

Another very curious bird that entertained us at lunch was this Northern Mockingbird.

Por la tarde continuamos conociendo nuevas zonas. En la foto una garceta azul (Egretta caerulea).

In the afternoon we continued exploring new areas. In the photo a Little Blue Heron.

Vimos varios sargentos alirrojos (Agelaius phoeniceus).

We saw several Red-winged Blackbird.

Había bastantes jacintos de los pantanos (Pontederia cordata).

There were quite a few Pickerelweed.

Tántalo americano (Mycteria americana).

Wood Stork.

Y finalizamos el día haciendo un recorrido por el sendero de Pinelands Trailhead en busca de pájaros carpinteros. No vimos ninguno pero lo más destacado fue la cantidad de estos bellos caracoles de árbol Liguus (Liguus fasciatus) que vimos.

And we ended the day by hiking the Pinelands Trailhead in search of woodpeckers. We didn't see any but the highlight was the number of these beautiful Florida Tree Snails we saw.

Una bonita mariposa atala (Eumaeus atala).

Un macho de cardenal norteño (Cardinalis cardinalis).

Un ave que tenía muchas ganas de ver y fotografiar, el calamoncillo americano (Porphyrio martinica).

A bird that I really wanted to see and photograph, the Purple Gallinule.

Cuando estuve la primera vez en Everglades, no tuve la suerte de verle por lo que era una especie nueva para mi. Además, vimos muchos, muy bien y muy cerca.

When I was the first time in the Everglades, I was not lucky enough to see it so it was a new species for me. Furthermore, we saw many, very well and very close.

Los dedos largos les facilita mucho andar entre los nenúfares sin mojarse.

Their long fingers make it much easier for them to walk among Water Lilies without getting wet.

Un bonito macho de anhinga americana (Anhinga anhinga) en plumaje reproductor.

A nice male Anhinga in breeding plumage.

Había muchos nenúfares amarillos (Nuphar advena) en todas las zonas encharcadas.

There were many Spatterdock in all the waterlogged areas.

Un mosquitero fibí (Sayornis phoebe).

El primer caiman del Mississippi (Alligator mississippiensis) que veíamos.

The first American alligator we saw.

Vimos bastantes especies de mariposas pero no ese posaban mucho tiempo en el mismo sitio por lo que fotografiarlas era muy difícil. En la foto una mariposa de manchas plateadas (Agraulis vanillae).

We saw quite a few species of Butterflies but they did not perch for a long time in the same place so photographing them was very difficult. Pictured is a Gulf Fritillary.

Y esta otra el pavo real blanco (Anartia jatrophae).

And this other one the White Peacock.

Un bonito pradero oriental (Sturnella magna).

A pretty Eastern Meadowlark.

Algunos árboles estaban cargados de esta planta de aire llamada musgo español (Tillandsia Usneoides).

Some trees were laden with this air plant called Spanish Moss.

Un macho de chupasavia norteño (Sphyrapicus varius).

A Yellow-bellied Sapsucker  male.

Una bonita flor de bromelia.

A pretty bromeliad flower.

Flor de Baoneta (Sagittaria latifolia).

Broad-leaved Arrowhead flower.

Me hizo mucha ilusión poder fotografiar a la tijereta rosada (Tyrannus forficatus) que, aunque ya la había fotografiado en Costa Rica, estas estuvieron mucho más cerca.

I was very excited to be able to photograph the Scissor-tailed Flycatcher, although I had already photographed it in Costa Rica, these were much closer.

También me gusto poder fotografiar a este macho de mosquero cardenal (Pyrocephalus rubinus). Era la primera vez que le veía.

I also liked being able to photograph this male Vermilion Flycatcher. It was the first time I had seen him.

Un macho de aguilucho de Hudson (Circus hudsonius). La primera vez que lo veía y fotografiaba.

A male Northern Harrier. It was the first time I had seen him and photographed him.

Un bonito elanio maromero (Elanus leucurus).

A beautiful White-tailed Kite.

También vimos una pareja de busardo colicorto (Buteo brachyurus).

We also saw a pair of Short-tailed Hawk.

Había muchos sargentos alirrojos (Agelaius phoeniceus). En la imagen un macho adulto.

There were many Red-winged Blackbird. In the image an adult male.

Y tuvimos la suerte de ver algunos praderos orientales (Sturnella magna). Esta vez mucho más cerca que los que habíamos visto por la mañana.

And we were lucky enough to see some Eastern Meadowlark. This time much closer than the ones we had seen in the morning.

Miércoles 14 de febrero: Castellow Hammock Preserve & Nature Center - Matheson Hammock Park - A. D. Barnes Park  - Tree Tops Park

Este fue el primer día de la visita que hicimos a algunos parques de Miami.

This was the first day of the visit we made to some Parks in Miami.

Empezamos bien el día, otra ave que nunca había visto, una hembra de carpintero escapulario (Colaptes auratus).

We started the day well, another bird I had never seen before, a female Northern Flicker.

Un abundante grupo de auras gallipavos (Cathartes aura).

An abundant flock of Turkey Vultures.

Una bonita mariposa reina (Danaus gilippus).

A pretty Queen Butterfly.

Un macho inmaduro de colibrí gorjirrubí (Archilochus colubris).

Ruby-throated Hummingbird immature male.

Mariposa cebra (Heliconius charithonia).

Zebra Longwing Butterfly.

Me gustó mucho el Matheson Hammock Park.

I really liked Matheson Hammock Park.

Había muchas iguanas verdes (Iguana iguana).

There were many Green Iguanas.

También había bastantes agama de roca de Namib (Agama planiceps). Es una especie invasora.

There were also quite a few Namib Rock Agama. It is an invasive species.

Una ardilla de las Carolinas (Sciurus carolinensis).

An Eastern Gray Squirrel.

Un macho de carpintero cabecirrojo (Melanerpes erythrocephalus). Otra especie nueva para mi.

A male Red-headed Woodpecker. Another new species for me.

Le saqué muchas fotos al ser una nueva especie y que estaba muy confiado.

I took many photos of it as it was a new species and it was very calm.

Reinita trepadora (Mniotilta varia). Vimos muy pocas especies de reinitas.

Black-and-white Warbler. We saw very few species of Warblers.

Una pareja de aratinga de Guayaquil (Psittacara erythrogenys). Es una especie invasora.

A pair of Red-masked Parakeet. It is an invasice especies.

Después visitamos el A. D. Barnes Park.

Next we visited A.D. Barnes Park.

Garceta tricolor (Egretta tricolor).

Y esta otra foto de la misma especie en clave alta.

Ibis blanco (Eudocimus albus).

Algunas iguanas verdes (Iguana iguana) eran muy grandes.

Some Green Iguanas were very large.

Una mariposa flama (Dryas iulia).

A Julia Heliconian.

Un anolis verde (Norops garmani).

A Jamaican Giant Anole.

Y el último parque que visitamos fue Tree Tops Park. En este parque ya había estado yo y como había visto, entre otras especies, a los patos Joyuyos (Aix sponsa) y me había gustado mucho, decidi volver.

And the last park we visited was Tree Tops Park. I had already been to this Park and since I had seen, among other species, Wood Ducks and I liked it a lot, I decided to return.

Además de la fauna, la flora es impresionante.

In addition to the fauna, the flora is awesome.

Había bastantes lirios de pantano (Crinum americanum).

There were quite a few Swamp Lily.

Garcilla verde (Butorides virescens).

Green Heron.

El pantano donde podían estar los patos que andaba buscando.

The swamp where the Ducks I was looking for could be.

Tardamos un poco en encontrar una pareja de los patos joyuyos (Aix sponsa). Estuvimos esperando un buen rato a ver si se acercaban más y tuvimos suerte.

It took us a while to find a pair of the Wood Ducks. We waited for a long time to see if they would get closer and we were lucky.

Me imagino que ahora comprenderéis porque quería ir hasta este parque. Son unos patos preciosos.

I imagine that now you will understand why I wanted to go to this Park. They are beautiful Ducks.

También había un hembra de porrón acollarado (Aythya collaris).

There was also a female Ring-necked Duck.

Después, dimos una vuelta por el parque. En la foto una Zenaida Huilota (Zenaida macroura).

Afterwards, we walked around the park. In the photo a Mourning Dove.

Y a este tántalo americano (Mycteria americana).

And to this Wood Stork.

Como en otros parques, abundaban las ardillas de las Carolinas (Sciurus carolinensis).

As in other parks, Eastern Gray Squirrels were plentiful.
