En esta segunda parte del blog os muestro lo que pude fotografiar del día 31 de mayo, los combatientes y algunas aves de cuando acudíamos al lek, y hasta el día 3 de junio ya en Finlandia.

In this second part of the blog I show you what I was able to photograph from May 31, Ruff lek and some Birds from when we went to the leek, and until June 3 in Finland.

Nada más entrar en el camino que lleva a donde previsiblemente estarían los combatientes (Calidris pugnax) en su lek, vimos a este ejemplar.

As soon as we take the path that leads to where Ruff would foreseeably be in their lek, we saw this specimen.

Un bonito chorlito dorado europeo (Pluvialis apricaria).

A beautiful European Golden Plover.

Págalo rabero (Stercorarius longicaudus).

Long-tailed Skua.

Un macho de ruiseñor pechiazul (Luscinia svecica).

A male of Bluethroat.

Una hembra de cerceta común (Anas crecca).

Common Teal.

Y por fin llegamos al lugar elegido.

And finally we arrived at the chosen place.

Los combatientes (Calidris pugnax) estaban en el mismo lugar de los otros dos años anteriores. Sin embargo, este año el lek estaba más animado que los otros dos pues había más machos y muy activos con el cortejo nupcial. Fue una pena que estuviese tan nublado.

The Ruff were in the same place as in the other two previous years. However, this year the lek was livelier than the other two as there were more males and they were very active with the nuptial display. It was a pity that it was so cloudy.

Es mu difícil captar con la cámara de fotos lo impresionante que es el cortejo nupcial a si como ver tantos machos con distintos plumajes. Os dejo bastantes fotos y unos vídeos para que os podáis hacer una idea del momento que pasamos con estas bellas aves.

It is very difficult to capture with the camera how impressive the nuptial display is as well as seeing so many males with different plumages. I uploaded many photos and some videos so that you can get an idea of the moment we spent with these beautiful Birds.

Alguno de los lugares que visitamos.

Some of the places we visited.

Lo primero que hicimos por la mañana fue darnos un paseo por una zona boscosa cercana al hotel. En la foto un andarríos bastardo (Tringa glareola).

The first thing we did in the morning was take a walk through a wooded area near the hotel. In the photo a Wood Sandpiper.

Un macho de porrón osculado (Bucephala clangula).

A male of Common Goldeneye.

Una pareja de busardos calzados (Buteo lagopus) estaba anidando en el ismo sitio que el año anterior.

A pair of Rough-legged Buzzard was nesting at the same place as the previous year.

En casi todos lo sitios que visitábamos había ostreros euroasiáticos (Haematopus ostralegus).

In almost all the places we visited there were Eurasian oystercatchers.

También vimos muchos pigargos europeos (Haliaeetus albicilla). Es impresionante el tamaño de su pico y de sus garras. En la foto un ejemplar adulto.

We also saw many white eagles (Haliaeetus albicilla). The size of its beak and its claws is impressive. In the photo an adult specimen.

Zorzal real (Turdus pilaris).

Una bonita aguja colipinta (Limosa lapponica).

A pretty Bar-tailed Godwit.

Un macho de serreta mediana (Mergus serrator).

A male Red-breasted Merganser.

Bisbita pratense (Anthus pratensis).

Meadow Pipit.

Este otro bisbita, era gorgirrojo (Anthus cervinus) pero no quiso darse la vuelta y enseñarme su garganta rojiza.

This other pipit was a red-throated (Anthus cervinus) but did not want to turn around and show me its reddish throat.

Este año vimos muchos menos correlimos de Temminck (Calidris temminckii) que otros años y los que vimos estaban bastante lejos.

This year we saw far fewer Temminck's Stint than other years and the ones we did see were quite far away.

Un macho de ánade rabudo (Anas acuta).

Un macho de escribano palustre (Emberiza schoeniclus).

A male Common Reed Bunting.

Págalo parásito (Stercorarius parasiticus) morfo oscuro.

Yo me había fijado mucho tratando de localizar correlimos gordos (Calidris canutus) durante nuestra estancia por el fiordo de Varanger y cuando ya había perdido la esperanza de ver esta bonita ave apareció un grupo de ellos. Además, estaban todos muy bonitos y se acercaron a nosotros mucho.

I had paid a lot of attention trying to locate Red Knot during our stay in the Varanger fjord and when I had already lost hope of seeing this beautiful bird, a group of them appeared. In addition, they were all very pretty and they got very close to us.

Impresionante.

Y en esta cabaña con impresionantes vistas al fiordo de Varanger los dueños de hotel nos habían preparado una cena de despedida consistente en un potaje de bacalao que estaba buenísimo. Al día siguiente ya partíamos hacia Finlandia.

And in this cabin with impressive views of the Varanger fjord, the hotel owners had prepared a farewell dinner for us consisting of a cod stew that was delicious. The next day we were leaving for Finland.

Algunos de los sitios en los que estuvimos.

Some of the places we have been.

Antes de salir de viaje a Finlandia, estuvimos un buen rato haciendo fotos a las aves que venían a los comederos del hotel donde nos alojábamos. Cada mañana era difícil desayunar rápidamente para comenzar nuestros viajes diarios para ver otro tipo de aves. En la foto un macho de pinzón real (Fringilla montifringilla).

Before leaving on our trip to Finland, we spent a long time taking photos of the Birds that came to the feeders of the hotel where we were staying. Each morning it was difficult to have a quick breakfast to start our daily trips to see other types of Birds. In the photo a male Brambling.

Macho de camachuelo común (Pyrrhula pyrrhula).

En el trayecto de ida a Finlandia tuvimos la suerte de poder observar otro cárabo gavilán (Surnia ulula).

On the way to Finland we were lucky enough to be able to spot another Northern Hawk-owl.

También vimos a este carbonero montano (Poecile montanus) en el mismo sitio que nos detuvimos para ver al cárabo.

We also saw this Willow Tit at the same spot we stopped to see the Northern Hawk-owl.

Otra parada que hicimos fue en el río Karasjohka para ver a las elegantes gaviotas enanas (Hydrocoloeus minutus) en plumaje nupcial.

Another stop we made was at the Karasjohka River to see the elegant Little Gull in breeding plumage.

Estaban comiendo insectos en la superficie del río y resultaba mu difícil fotografiarlas.

They were eating insects on the surface of the river and it was very difficult to photograph them.

También había algunos charranes comunes (Sterna hirundo) en el río.

There were also some Common Terns in the river.

Luego subimos a una colina llamada Ailikastunturin que tiene fama por ser un sitio donde se ven con asiduidad los chorlitos carambolos (Charadrius morinellus). No tuvimos suerte  no los vimos. En la foto un lagópodo común escandinavo (Lagopus lagopus) macho.

Then we go up to a hill called Ailikastunturin, which is famous for being a place where Dotterels are regularly seen. We were unlucky and didn't see them. In the photo a male Willow Ptarmigan.

Había algunos chorlitos dorados europeos (Pluvialis apricaria).

There were some European Golden Plovers.

No obstante, el hábitat era el idóneo para ellos.

However, the habitat was grat for them.

Una bonita hembra de escribano lapón (Calcarius lapponicus).

A bautiful female Lapland Bunting.

Y la última parada fue para ver a un grupo de tres grullas comunes (Grus grus). Bueno, hicimos otra parada anterior para ver a un archibebe oscuro (Tringa erythropus) que estaba muy binito en plumaje nupcial y cuando lo estábamos viendo se posaron tres ampelis europeos (Bombycilla garrulus) en un arbol cerca de donde estábamos y yo me había dejado la cámara en la furgoneta.

And the last stop was to see a group of three Common Cranes. Well, we made another earlier stop to see a Spotted Redshank that was very nice in breeding plumage and when we were seeing it three Bohemian Waxwing landed in a tree near where we were and I had left my camera in the van

Algunos de los lugares visitados.

En el camino de ida a Kaamanen vimos a este colimbo ártico (Gavia arctica). Fue una pena que estuviese a contraluz.

On the way to Kaamanen we saw this Black-throated Diver. It was a shame it was backlit.

Vista del comedero que visitamos. Fue una pena que un fotógrafo extranjero se colocase debajo de los comederos para sacar fotos a las aves y lo que consiguió fue que las aves recelasen  no entrasen como en otros años que no había gente por el jardín.

View of the feeder we visited. It was a pity that a foreign photographer placed himself under the feeders to take pictures of the Birds and what he achieved was that Birds were suspicious and did not come as much as in other years when there were no people in the garden.

A pesar del incidente, algo pudimos ver y fotografiar. En la foto un macho de camachuelo picogrueso (Pinicola enucleator). Hay gente que es muy torpe y no sabe interpretar lo que las aves están haciendo debido a su comportamiento.

Despite the incident, we were able to see and photograph something. In the photo a male Pine Grosbeak. There are people who are very clumsy and do not know how to interpret what Birds are doing due to their behavior.

Son muy grandes y bonitos.

They are very big and beautiful.

Un macho de jilguero lúgano (Spinus spinus).

A male Eurasian Siskin.

Vinieron bastantes ardillas rojas (Sciurus vulgaris) a comer pipas.

Quite a few Red Squirrels  came to eat sunflower seeds.

Que bonitos están en plumaje nupcial.

How beautiful they are in breeding plumage.

Un carbonero común (Parus major).

Como el tipo que estaba en donde los comederos no se iba, decidí darme una vuelta por el bosque cercano al hotel. Encontré una pareja de papamoscas cerrojillo que estaban en plena construcción del nido en una caja nido. En la foto el macho.

Since the guy who was where the feeders didn't go, I decided to take a walk through the woods near the hotel. I found a pair of Pied Flycatchers that were building their nest in a nest box. In the photo the male.

Luego visitamos varios sitios en busca del chorlito carambolo (Charadrius morinellus). No tuvimos suerte hasta muy al final de la tarde que pudimos observar mu bien a una pareja. Era la primera vez que los veía en plumaje nupcial. Son muy bonitos.

Then we visit several places in search of the Eurasian Dotterel. We had no luck until very late in the afternoon when we got a good look at a couple. It was the first time I had seen them in breeding plumage. They are very pretty.

Y cuando regresábamos al hotel, hicimos una parada en un sitio que se podían ver ampelis europeos (Bombycilla garrulus) pero no hubo suerte. En un lago había un macho de porrón osculado (Bucephala clangula).

And when we were going back to the hotel, we made a stop at a place where you could spot Bohemian Waxwing but with no luck. In a lake there was a male Common Goldeneye.

Vimos varios nidos como este siempre cerca del agua. Me imagino que serán para que puedan anidar los porrones osculados (Bucephala clangula)y las serretas chicas (Mergellus albellus).

We saw several nests like this one always close to water. I imagine they will be so that Common Goldeneye and Smew can nest.
