En esta ocasión os muestro dos talleres fotográficos que realizamos en Gredos para fotografiar la cabra montés (Capra Pirenayca Victoriae).
On this occasion I show you two photographic workshops that we made in Gredos to photograph the Spanish Ibex.
Para poder fotografiar las cabras es necesario obtener el preceptivo permiso de la Consejería de Medio Ambiente de la Comunidad de Castilla León. Sin él no se puede fotografiar a estos animales.
To be able to photograph the Ibex it is necessary to obtain the mandatory permission of the Ministry of the Environment of the Community of Castilla León. Without it you can not photograph these animals.
El primer día estuvo nublado pero no hizo frío aunque la luz no era buena. En el segundo tuvimos más suerte e hizo sol tamizado por nubes altas y una temperatura muy agradable aunque el hielo que había en los caminos nos impidió subir a ver si encontrábamos más cabras.
The first day was cloudy but it was not cold although the light was not good. In the second we had more luck and sun screened by high clouds and a very nice temperature although the ice that was on the roads prevented us from climbing to see if we found some more Ibex.
Lo más deseado en la fotografía de las cabras monteses (Capra Pirenayca Victoriae) es fotografiar las tremendas luchas que algunas veces puedes ver entre dos machos.
The most desired in the photography of the Spanish Ibex is to fotograph the tremendous fights that sometimes you can see between two males.
En la primera excursión tuvimos mucha suerte y dos machos estuvieron peleándose durante media hora.
On the first trip we were very lucky and two males were fighting for half an hour.
Y en el segundo no tuvimos tanta suerte con las peleas pero vimos como un macho cubría a una hembra que es mucho mas raro que el verles pelearse. Un momento inolvidable.
And in the second we did not have much luck with the fights but we saw how a male mate with a female that is much weirder than watching them fight. An unforgettable moment.

Solo os voy a comentar algunas de las fotos pues en muchos casos sobran los comentarios.
I'm just going to comment on some of the photos because in many cases thereis not necesary.
Primer día:
First day:
Lo primero que vimos nada más llegar fue un grupo de chovas piquirrojas (Pyrrhocorax
pyrrhocorax).
The first thing we watched as soon as we arrived was a group of Red-billed Choughs.
Y enseguida llegamos a donde estaban las cabras montesas (Capra Pirenayca Victoriae). Un bonito macho.
And immediately we got to where the Spanish Ibex. This is a nice male.
Otro más joven.
Another one younger.
Hay que ver la cara de tontos que se les pone cuando están en celo.
They put silly faces when they are in heat.
Algunas veces llegas a tenerlas realmente cerca.
Sometimes they are really close.
Hembra.
Female.
Joven nacido en primavera.
Calf born in spring.
También comen los líquenes de las rocas.
They also eat lichen from rocks.
En la izquierda un buitre negro (Aegypius
monachus) y el otro un leonado (Gyps
fulvus).
On the left a Black Vulture and the other it is a Griffon Vulture.
Pocas veces se les ve sentados como si fueran perros.
They are rarely seen sitting as if they were dogs.
Da gusto verlos correr por las rocas sin perder pie. Ese día las rocas estaban muy húmedas y muy resbaladizas para nosotros pero no para ellas.
It's nice to see them run through the rocks without losing their footing. That day the rocks were very wet and very slippery for us but not for them.
Unos fotos de saltos para cruzar el río que este año iba con mucha agua.

Un grupo de cormoranes grandes (Phalacrocorax

Por la tarde se unieron varios grupos de cabras y enseguida vimos que dos de ellos se estaban retando.
In the afternoon several groups of goats joined and soon we saw that two of them starting to challeng each other.
Estuvieron mucho tiempo rozándose los cuernos muy buena señal de que querían retarse.
They spent a lot of time rubbing their horns very good sign that they wanted to challenge themselves.
Creo que esta ofensa ya fue demasiado.
I think this offense was already too much.
Y comenzó la pelea.
And the fight started.
Después de media hora de lucha el vencedor echo al vencido fuera del grupo donde estaban las hembras.
After half an hour of fighting, the winner threw the loser out of the group where the females were.
Y ya cuando decidimos regresar a Madrid vi a este preciosos macho de escribano montesino (Emberiza
cia) que no le importó posar para la cámara.
And already when we decided to return to Madrid I saw this precious male of Rock Bunting who did not mind posing for the camera.
Y a este grupo de ánsares comunes (Anser
anser) en migración.
And this flock of Greylag Geese in migration.

En esta ocasión el viaje era privado para una sola persona y como no había visto aun águila imperial ibérica (Aquila
adalberti) hice una parada en el camino para enseñarle esta pareja de adultos.
On this occasion the trip was private for one person and as he had not seen an Spanis Imperial Eagle I made a stop on the way to show him this adult pair.
Este día las cabras estaban mas enceladas.
This day the goats were more in heat.
A este la llamamos cuernos juntos.
We call this horns together.
A este otro cuernos grandes que fue el que cubrió a la hembra.
To this other big horns that was the one that was copuleating.
En las zonas de umbría había mucho hielo.
There was a lot of ice in the shady areas.

Female.
Macho joven.
A young male.
Un joven del año.
A calf oy this year.
Se veía que esta hembra estaba receptiva.
It was seen that this female was receptive.
Unas imágenes muy difíciles de captar.
Some very difficult images to capture.
Observamos varios intentos de cópula.
We observed several attempts of copulation.
Al poco rato de estas fotos el macho cubrió a la hembra pero yo estaba mirando y no estaba preparado para tomar fotos. Una pena. Cuando terminó empezó a chiflar varias veces y ya se quedó más tranquilo.
Soon after these photos the male covered the female but I was looking and was not ready to take pictures. A shame. When it was over, he began to whistle several times and he stayed quieter.
Hembra vieja.
Old female.
Las cabras tienen un órgano auxiliar del sentido del olfato entre la nariz y la boca llamado órgano de Jacobson que les sirve para detectar el nivel de feromonas de las hembras. El levantamiento del labio superior se llama Reflejo de Flehmen y sirve para facilita la transferencia de productos químicos odorantes al citado órgano.
Ibex have an auxiliary organ of the sense of smell between the nose and the mouth called Jacobson's Organ that serves them to detect the level of pheromones of the females. The lifting of the upper lip is called Flehmen resonse and serves to facilitate the transfer of odorant chemicals to the said organ.
Cuernos grandes tenía el ojo izquierdo con conjuntivitis o algo parecido.
Big horns had the left eye with conjunctivitis or something similar.
A este otro le llamamos cuernos gordos.
We call this other one fat horns.
Los demás machos del grupo aceptaban la superioridad de cuernos grandes y con solo mirarlos se retiraban.
The other males of the group accepted the superiority of large horns and just looked at them they retreated.
También volvieron a cruzar el río.
They also crossed the river again.
Pero pasaron por un sitio más estrecho que el día de nuestra anterior visita.
But they passed through a place with less distances among rocks than the day of our previous trip.
En esta ocasión vimos menos buitres leonados (Gyps
fulvus).
This time we saw less Griffon Vultures.
En este viaje no se juntaron otras cabradas y puede que esa sea la razón de que no pudiéramos ver alguna lucha.
In this trip other herds of Ibex did not join and that may be the reason why we could not watch any fight.

Y cuando decidimos regresar a Madrid ya en el camino de bajada nos encontramos con este gran macho solitario que estaba comiendo sal en la carretera. Una pasada de macho. Probablemente el mayor que he visto por Gredos.
And when we decided to return to Madrid already on the way down we watched this great lonely male who was eating salt on the road. Tremendous horns he had. Probably the biggest I've seen at Gredos.
