Hello once again.
En esta ocasión os muestro algunas de las especies de aves vistas en el último viaje a la Reserva Natural Lagunas de Villafáfila situada al noreste de Zamora en la comarca Tierra de Campos. Esta reserva tiene más de 32 mil hectáreas siendo uno de los mejores humedales del norte Peninsular y donde se encuentra la mayor concentración de avutardas comunes del Mundo.
This time I show you some of the bird species seen on my last trip to Villafáfila Lagoons Nature Reserve located Northeast of Zamora in the region Tierra de Campos. This Reserve has more than 32 thousand hectares been one of the best wetlands of the northern Spain and home to the largest concentration of Great Bustards of the World.
El tiempo no fue demasiado bueno, lluvioso a veces y bastante oscuro durante todo el día aunque la temperatura no estuvo mal. No obstante, el día de avistamiento de aves fue más que estupendo. Pudimos contemplar gran cantidad de avutardas comunes, varios grupos de gangas ortega, bastantes anátidas aunque menos que durante le invierno, tres búhos campestres y como inesperados dos flamencos comunes adultos y un morito común.
The weather was not very good, some rain and quite dark all day although the temperature was not bad. However, the birding day was more than great. We could see a large amount of Great Bustards, some Waterfowl although less than in winter, Black-bellied Sandgrouses, three Shot-eared Owls and as unexpected two adult Greater Flamingos and a Glossy Ibis.
La primer ave que nos llamó la atención fue este macho de collalba gris (Oenanthe
oenanthe) en plumaje invernal.
The first bird that caught our attention was this male of Northern Wheatear still in wintering plumage.
Y enseguida comenzamos a ver gran cantidad e avutardas comunes (Otis
tarda) tanto machos como hembras.
And soon we started to see lots of Great Bustards both males and females.
Un grupo de machos.
A group of males.
Alguno de ellos estaba haciendo la rueda. Pido disculpas por la calidad de las fotos pero es que estaban a gran distancia y el día estaba muy oscuro.
Some of them were displaying "la rueda". I apologize for the quality of the photos but they were at a great distance and the day was very dark.
Algunos iban de un bando hasta otro. En la foto un gran macho.
Some went from one flock to another. The photo shows a large male.
Estos dos machos estaban midiendo sus fuerzas pero no llegaron a luchar aunque la escena fue preciosa y nos entretuvo durante un cuarto de hora.
These two males were measuring their strength but failed to fight though the scene was beautiful and entertained us for a quarter of an hour.
En esta foto se aprecia como miden sus picos y lo más normal es que se los entrecrucen y comiencen a empujar a ver cual es el más fuerte. El zoom digital tiene mucha menos calidad que el normal.
In this photo you can appreciate how they measure their peaks and it's natural they intersect them and start pushing to see which is the strongest. The digital zoom has a lot less quality than the regular.
Cerca suyo había algunas hembras y machos inmaduros.
Near them were some females and inmature males.
Otro precioso macho de avutarda común (Otis tarda).
Another beautiful Great Bustard male.
Un bonito trío de machos.
A lovely trio of males.
Continuamos con nuestro recorrido pudimos ver este bando de gangas ortega (Pterocles
orientalis).
We continue our tour and we could see this group of Black-bellied Sandgrouses.
Y un poco más tarde este otro de tan solo dos individuos formado por un macho y una hembra.
And a shortly after another one formed only by two individuals consisting of a male and a female.
Los trigueros (Miliaria
calandra) abundaban y no paraban de cantar a pesar del mal tiempo.
Corn Buntings abounded and they kept singing despite the bad weather.
Y este halcón peregrino (Falco
peregrinus) pasó por donde estábamos observando las gangas ortega (Pterocles orientalis).
And this Peregrine Falcon went by where we were observing theBlack-bellied Sandgrouses.
Otro nutrido grupo de avutardas comunes (Otis tarda) machos y hembras.
Another large group of Great Bustards (Otis tarda) males and females.
Algunos bandos eran muy grandes.
Some groups were quite numerous.
Esta culebrera europea (Circaetus
gallicus) estaba siendo hostigada por una avefría europea (Vanellus
vanellus).
This Short-toed
Eagle was being harassed by a Northern
Lapwing.
Y al poco rato apareció esta otra culebrera europea (Circaetus gallicus).
And shortly afterwards it appeared this other Short-toed Eagle.
También vimos algunos milanos negros (Milvus
migrans).
We also saw some Black Kites.
Después decidimos darnos una vuelta por las lagunas y vimos a este grupo de unos 40 cormoranes grandes (Phalacrocorax
carbo) en dirección sur.
We then decided to give us a tour by the lagoons and saw this group of about 40 Great Cormorants going south.
Había bastantes avocetas comunes (Recurvirostra
avosetta).
There were many Avocets.
Y algunas abubillas europeas (Upupa
epops).
And some Eurasian Hoopoe.
Abundaban las avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus).
Northern Lapwing were abundant.
También pudimos contemplar algunas parejas de tarros blancos (Tadorna
tadorna).
We could also see a few pairs of Common
Shelducks.
Y también se podían ver algunas cigüeñuelas comunes (Himantopus
himantopus).
And we could also observe some Black-winged Stilt.
Y aunque muy lejos vimos desde el observatorio de Otero de Sariegos estos dos flamencos comunes (Phoenicopterus
ruber) que muy pocas veces se pueden observar en estas lagunas. También había bastantes gaviotas reidoras (Chroicocephalus
ridibundus).
And although very far from the observatory of Otero de Sariegos we saw these two Greater Flamingos that rarely can be observed at these Lagoons. There were also many Black-headed Gulls.
Y en dicho pueblo abandonado había algunas grajillas (Corvus
monedula).
And in that abandoned village there were some Jackdaws.
A su salida las garcillas bueyeras (Bubulcus
ibis) se alimentaban cerca de las lagunas.
Upon leaving it Cattle Egrets fed close to the Lagoons.
Y lo más inesperado de la visita fue encontrarnos con este preciosos ejemplar de morito común (Plegadis
falcinellus).
And the most unexpected of the visit was to see this beautiful specimen of Glossy Ibis.
También se veían algunas cucharas comunes (Anas
clypeata). En la foto un macho.
Some Northern
Shoveler were also seen. Pictured a male.
Macho y hembra de verderón común (Carduelis
chloris).
Male and female of Greenfinch.
Cerca de la Casa del Parque había una pareja de ánsares comunes (Anser
anser).
Near the Casa del Parque there was a pair of Greylag Geese.
Y después volvimos a ver a las maravillosas avutardas comunes (Otis tarda). En la foto un gran macho muy confiado.
And then we went back to see the wonderful Great Bustards. The photo shows a large male very calmed.
Otra collalba gris (Oenanthe oenanthe).
Another Northern Wheatear.
Que alegría nos dio este búho campestre (Asio
flammeus) cuando lo vimos muy cerca de nuestro recorrido. Toda una satisfacción poder contemplar esta especie.
What a happines gave us this Short-eared Owl when we saw it close to our trail. Quite a pleasure to watch this specie.
También vimos varias parejas de perdiz roja (Alectoris
rufa).
We also saw several pairs of Red-legged Partridge.
Y algunas cornejas negras (Corvus
corone).
And some Carrion
Crows.

Y volvimos a tener suerte y vimos otros grupos de gangas ortega (Pterocles orientalis). En la fotos dos machos y dos hembras.
And we went back to be lucky and saw other groups of Black-bellied Sandgrouses. In the photo two males and two females.

Cuando están posadas son muy difíciles de detectar.
When they are on land are very difficult to detect.
Y aunque a mayor distancia que el anterior búho campestre (Asio flammeus) disfrutamos de dos ejemplares más.
And although farther than the previous Short-eared Owl we enjoyed two more especimens.
