Esta vez os relato lo que pudimos observar en un viaje de dos días a Extremadura. EL primer día hicimos La Serena y el segundo Vegas Altas del Guadiana.
This time I showl you what we could watch in a two days trip to Extremadura. The first day we visited La Serena and the second Vegas Altas del Guadiana.
En La Serena el tiempo fue bueno pero en Vegas Altas estuvo lloviendo durante gran parte del día.
In La Serena the weather was good but in Vegas Altas it was raining for most of the day.
Uno de los objetivos del viaje era ver los grandes bandos de grullas comunes (Grus grus) que pasan el invierno en Vegas Altas.
One of the targets of the trip was to watch the great flocks of Common Cranes that spend the winter in Vegas Altas.
En nuestro viaje de ida hicimos una parada para tomar un café en un sitio que conozco que suele haber águila imperial ibérica (Aquila
adalberti) y tuvimos mucha suerte pues vimos, en primer lugar, a este damero.
On our outward journey we made a stop to teke a coffee in a place that I know that there usually are Spanish Imperial Eagle and we were very lucky because we saw at first this immature.
Y al poco rato tres adultos.
And thereafter another three adults.
Comenzamos nuestra visita a La Serena por su parte sur en donde vimos varios buitres leonados (Gyps
fulvus).
We begin our visit to La Serena on its southern part where we watched several Griffon Vultures.
También había bastantes pardillos comunes (Carduelis
cannabina).
There were also many Common Linnets.
Gavilán común (Accipiter
nisus).

Otro de los objetivos del viaje era ver collalbas negras (Oenanthe
leucura). Vimos bastantes.
Another of the targets of the trip was to spot Black Wheatears. We saw several.
Fue una pena que ninguna de ellas se acercase un poco más a donde estábamos.
It was a pity that none of them got any closer to where we were.

Las chumberas (Opuntia ficus-indica) estaban llenas de higos. Esta planta pertenece a la familia de las cactáceas y es oriunda de América.
Prickly Pear were full of figs. This plant belongs to the family of cacti and is native to America.

Ya en los llanos de La Serena pudimos ver dos bandos de sisones comunes (Tetrax
tetrax).
Already at the plains of La Serena we could watch two flocks of Little Bustards.
Y varios de gangas ortega (Pterocles
orientalis).
And several of Black-bellied
Sandgrouse.
Esta pareja, el macho es el de la parte superior, fue la que pasó más cerca.
This pair, the male is the one at the top, was the one who passed closest.
También vimos avutardas comunes (Otis
tarda).
We also saw Great Bustards.
Y al anochecer fuimos a ver la entrada de grullas comunes (Grus grus) a sus dormideros. Fue una pena que no vimos una buena entrada pero el anochecer fue muy bonito.
And at nightfall we went to see the entrance of common cranes to their roosting places. It was a shame that we did not see a good entry but the sunset was very beautiful.
A la mañana siguiente dimos un paseo por los arrozales cercanos a Obando y vimos que había menos grullas comunes (Grus grus) que en otros años. Como nos comentaron en el pueblo que podía deberse a que la recogida de los cereales había sido este año más tardía que en otros años por las lluvias de la primavera.
The next morning we took a walk through the rice fields near Obando and saw that there were fewer common cranes than in other years. As we were told in the village, it could be because the harvesting of cereals had been later this year because of the spring rains.
A esta pareja le ha ido muy bien la reproducción pues han conseguido sacar adelante a dos jóvenes.
This pair has had a very good reproduction because they have managed to get two juveniles forward.

Lo que si vimos fueron bastantes alcaudones reales meridionales (Lanius
meridionalis).
What we did watch were quite a few Southern
Grey Shrikes.
Y muchísimos gorriones morunos (Passer
hispaniolensis).
And many Spanish
Sparrows.

La luz era muy mala y tuvimos que subir mucho los ISO.
Light was very poor and we had to raise the ISO a lot.

Sparrows but less than in the other place. In the photo a male.
Macho de bengalí rojo (Amandava
amandava) que estaba haciendo su nido. Estas aves hacen coincidir su reproducción con la época de los Monzones de sus lugares de origen.
Red Avadavat male who was making his nest. These birds make their reproduction coincide with the time of the Monzones of their places of origin.
