Grandes rapaces. Great Raptors

Hello again.

Esta semana voy a incluir dos de nuestros viajes. El primero para ver aves rapaces con especial atención al paso  migratorio del águila pescadora (Pandion haliaetus)  y el segundo también para grandes rapaces y aves esteparias.
This week I'm going to include two of our trips. The first to see Raptors with special attention to the migratory pass of the Osprey and the second also for large raptors and steppe birds.

Para el primero elegí Ávila y para el segundo Madrid y Toledo.
For the first trip I chosed Ávila and for the second Madrid and Toledo.

En ambos casos el tiempo fue muy bueno aunque algo calurosa para la época del año en la que estamos.
In both cases the weather was very good although somewhat hot for the time of year we are in.

Primer viaje: Destino Ávila.
First trip: Destination Avila.


Una vez seleccionado el embalse donde se suelen ver en esta época a las águilas pescadoras (Pandion haliaetus) lo primero que vimos fue esta garza real (Ardea cinerea).
Once choose the reservoir where the Ospreys are commonly seen at this time, the first thing we saw was this Grey Heron.


Aunque ya habíamos visto a un águila pescadora (Pandion haliaetus) posada en un torreta eléctrica, decidí dar la vuelta a todo el embalse a ver si se ponía a pescar y la podíamos ver más cerca. EN la foto una gaviota sombría (Larus fuscus).
Although we had already seen an Osprey perched on an electric pylon, I decided to go around the whole reservoir to see if it was to fish and we could see it closer. In the picture a Lesser Black-backed Gull.


Ánades azulones (Anas platyrhynchosy una pareja de cucharas comunes (Anas clypeata) en la parte inferior.
Mallards and a pair of Northern Shoveler at the bottom.


Correlimos comunes (Calidris alpina).
Dunlins.


Andarríos chicos (Actitis hypoleucos).
Common Sandpipers.


Lavandera boyera (Motacilla flava).
Yellow Wagtail.


Corneja Común (Corvus corone).
Carrion Crow.


Había dos cigüeñas negras (Ciconia nigra). Ambas eran adultas.
There were two Black Storks. Both were adults.



Otra garza real (Ardea cinerea).
Another Grey Heron.


Y a media mañana una de las águilas pescadoras (Pandion haliaetus) decidió salir de pesca.
And at midday one of the Ospreys (decided to go fishing.


Ambos ejemplares eran jóvenes.
Both specimens were juveniles.


Por lo menos uno de ellos estaba anillado pero no pudimos ver la inscripción.
At least one of them was ringed but we could not see the inscription.



Y después de un rato consiguió pescar este pez.
And after a while it got to catch this fish.


Vimos tres águilas imperiales ibéricas (Aquila adalberti). Una de ellas bastante lejos pero una pareja pasó muy cerca.
We saw three Spanish Imperial Eagles. One of them quite far but a couple passed very close.


Impresionantes.

Somormujo lavanco (Podiceps cristatus).
Great Crested Grebe.


Buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) y uno negro (Aegypius monachusen la izquierda de la imagen.

Buitre negro (Aegypius monachus).
Black Vulture.


La mayor de nuestras aves rapaces llegando a alcanzar una envergadura de 2,85 metros. No está nada mal.
The largest of our Raptors reaching a wingspan of 2.85 meters. It's not bad at all.


Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus).
Griffon Vulture.


Este es el tercero en términos de envergadura. La segunda es el quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus) pero en términos de longitud es el primero.
This is the third in terms of size. The second is the Lammergeier but in terms of length it is the first one.





Esta águila calzada (Aquila pennata) fase oscura nos deleito con un tremendo picado.
This Booted Eagle dark phase delights us with a tremendous dive.




Y además capturo una presa que me pareció un estornino negro (Sturnus unicolor).
And it caught a prey that I think it was a Spotless Starling.

Una vez que ya habíamos visto bastantes rapaces decidí darnos una vuelta por un parque publico a ver que podíamos ver. En la foto una hembra de pinzón vulgar (Fringilla coelebs).
Once we had seen many Raptors I decided to take a tour in a public park to see what we could watch. In the photo a female of Common Chaffinch.


Serín verdecillo (Serinus serinus).
European Serin.


Agateador Europeo (Certhia brachydactyla).
Short-toed Treecreeper.



Carbonero garrapinos (Periparus ater).
Coal Tit.



Herrerillo capuchino (Lophophanes cristatus).
Crested Tit.




Trepador azul (Sitta europaea).
European Nuthatch.


Reyezuelo listado (Regulus ignicapilla).
Firecrest.





Chochín Común (Troglodytes troglodytes).
Winter Wren.


Petirrojo europeo (Erithacus rubecula).
European Robin.



Ardilla común (Sciurus vulgaris).
Red Squirrel.


Me encantan.
I love them.

Segundo viaje: Destino Madrid y Toledo.
Second trip: Destiny Madrid and Toledo.

Vimos una pareja de águilas reales (Aquila chrysaetoscon uno de sus jóvenes de este año.
We saw a couple of Golden Eagles with one of their juveniles of this year.

Hembra de curruca cabecinegra (Sylvia melanocephala).
Female of Sardinian Warbler.


Debía de haber cerca una carroñada pues había mas buitres que de costumbre.
There must have been a carronade nearby because there were more Vultures than usual.

Buitre negro (Aegypius monachus).
Black Vulture.


Alcotán Europeo (Falco subbuteo).
Hobby.



Culebrera europea (Circaetus gallicus) con una culebra.
Short-toed Eagle with a Snake.


A esta águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalbertila llevo viendo muchos años sin que la falta de plumas primarias en su ala derecha le impida sobrevivir.
To this Spanish Imperial Eagle I has been seeing it for many years without the lack of primary feathers in its right wing prevent she from surviving.

Y vimos al menos 3 juveniles.
And we watched at least 3 juveniles.



En Toledo vimos varias avutardas comunes (Otis tarda).
In Toledo we saw several Great Bbustards.

Cernícalos vulgares (Falco tinnunculus).
Common Kestrels.


Bisbita campestre (Anthus campestris).
Tawny Pipit.


Collalba gris (Oenanthe oenanthe).

Whinchat.
