Hi all.
Recuerdos de mi juventud acuden a mi memoria cada vez que voy a éste espacio protegido que cuando yo era joven se llamaba Reres y ahora se llama Redes. Los bosques de castaños (Castanea sativa), abedules (Betula pendula) y hayas (Fagus sylvatica) son incomparables. Entre ellos se pueden apreciar una gran variedad de otros árboles de hoja caduca que en otoño alcanzan su máximo esplendor con una variedad de tonos dorados que es difícil de olvidar.
Memories of my youth come to my mind every time I go to this protected area.When I was young it was called Reres and now is called Redes. The forests of Chestnuts, Birches and Beeches are incomparable. Among them you can see a great variety of other deciduous trees that in autumn reaches their peak with a variety of gold tones that is hard to forget.
El tiempo fue muy malo con bastante lluvia, niebla y viento pero a pesar de todo, y como de costumbre, mereció la pena el viaje. Solo el domingo amaneció un día con buen tiempo pero regresamos temprano a Madrid y no tuve mucho tiempo de pajarear.
The weather was very bad with a lot of rain, fog and wind but nevertheless, and as usual, it was worth the trip. Only on Sunday dawned a day with good weather but we returned early to Madrid and I did not have much time for birding.
Os pido disculpas por la calidad de las fotos pero con tan mala visibilidad y tan poca luz no pude hacer nada mejor con el equipo que llevaba.
I apologize for the quality of the photos but with such bad visibility and low light I could not do any better with the camera I carried.
A parte de las aves que no veo con frecuencia por estar limitadas a la zona Norte de nuestro País el encuentro más inesperado lo protagonizo una hembra de urogallo cantábrico (Tetrao urogallus) muy mansa que estaba junto al camino que seguíamos y no le importó mi presencia. Recuerdo cuando hace 30 años era frecuente ver a estas maravillosas aves en estos montes y los sustos que me daban cada vez que alguna alzaba el vuelo atravesando ruidosamente los árboles. Espero que vuelva a tener tanta suerte como éste día y vuelva a ver algún otro ejemplar.
Besides the birds I do not see often because they are limited to the north of our country the most unexpected and exciting encounter was starred by the presence of a tame female of Cantabrian Capercaillie that was in the trail where we were and did not mind my presence . I remember 30 years ago it was common to see these wonderful birds in these mountains and they scares me every time one of them took off with its noisy fly through the trees. I hope to be as lucky as this day and I could see again another one in the near future.
Llegamos el viernes por la tarde y a pesar de la llovizna nos dimos un paseo por los alrededores.
We arrived on Friday afternoon and despite the rain we took a walk around.
A la mañana siguiente mientras me iba a desayunar pude ver a esta corneja negra (Corvus
corone).
The next morning while I was going to have breakfast I could see this Carrion Crow.
Y a esta pareja de colirrojo real (Phoenicurus
phoenicurus) que no paraba de llevar comida a sus crías. En la foto el macho.

Los halcones peregrinos (Falco peregrinus) no paraban de hostigar a toda rapaz que osaba meterse en su territorio.

coelebs) recogiendo insectos para la prole.

Pero lo mejor de todo el día y de bastantes, por no decir de todas las excursiones de este año, fue este inesperado encuentro con una hembra de urogallo Cantábrico (Tetrao urogallus). Se trataba de un ejemplar claramente manso y que me imagino que haya sido de reintroducción aunque no llevaba ningún radiotransmisor.
But the best of all day and of many, if not all trips of this year, was this unexpected encounter with a female of Cantabrian Capercaillie. It was clearly a tame specimen and I imagine she has been reintroduced but carried no radio transmitter.
Te deseo toda la suerte del mundo y que puedas llegar a reproducirte en un futuro. Espero que te respeten y te vuelvas algo más desconfiada.
I wish you all the luck in the world and you can breed in the future. I hope you get respected and you become more untamed.

The next day the sun rose a very good day and before returning to Madrid I could see a couple of Redstart. In the photo the female.
