Próximos viajes. Next trips.

Esta vez os enseño algunas de las aves que pudimos ver en nuestra excursión al Parque Nacional Sierra de Guadarrama que hicimos el pasado 9 de marzo.
This time I show you some Birds that we saw on our trrip to the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park that we made last March 9th.

Teníamos cuatro objetivos prioritarios para ver en esta excursión que eran: verderón serrano (Serinus citrinella), piquituerto común (Loxia curvirostra), mirlo acuático europeo (Cinclus cinclus) y pico menor (Dryobates minor). Vomos muy bien los dos primeros pero los otros dos no acudieron a nuestra cita.
We had four targets to watch in this trip that were: Citril Finch, Common Crossbill, White-throated Dipper and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker. We saw the first two very well but the other two did not attend to our appointment.

De todos modos no me extrañó demasiado pues había gente hasta debajo de las piedras y luego os lo comentaré.
Anyway it did not surprise me too much because there were people even under the stones and then I will try to tell you.

El que más me gusta de todas las aves que vimos es el verderón serrano (Serinus citrinella). En la foto un macho.
The one that I like most of all Birds we saw is the Citril Finch. In the photo a male.

Pero vayamos por partes. Ahora os voy a relatar como fue el día.
But let's start properly. Now I am going to tell you how the day was.

Llegamos sobre las 09:00 horas a nuestro primer punto de observación ya al poco rato ya vimos el primer piquituerto común (Loxia curvirostra).
We arrived at 09:00 hours to our first point of observation and soon after we saw the first Common Crossbill.

Como podéis observar por la fotos no había ni una sola nube y aunque a esa hora hacia un poco de frío, el resto de la jornada tuvimos una temperatura muy agradable.
As you can see from the photos there was not a single cloud and although at that time it was a bit cold, the rest of the day we had a very pleasant temperature.

Los ejemplares que aparecen en todas estas fotos son machos. No vimos hembras por lo que pensé que estarían incubando.
The specimens that appear in all these photos are males. We did not see females thus I thought they would be incubating.

Vimos algunos carboneros garrapinos (Periparus ater) pero este fue el que mejor posó para la cámara. La gente ya acudía en masas cuando nos íbamos al siguiente punto de observación.
We saw some Coal Tits but this was the one that best posed for the camera. People already came in masses when we went to the next observation point.

Después de un buen rato encontramos varios grupos de verderones serranos (Serinus citrinella) que deambulaban por el lugar elegido. En la foto un macho.
After some time we found several flocks of Citril Finches  that wandered around the chosen place. In the photo a male.

Pero claro, una cosa es verlos y otra mucho más difícil fotografiarlos.
But of course, a thing is to see them and another much harder is to photograph them.

Basta que las multitudes vean a un grupo de personas con cámaras fotográficas, telescopios y demás parafernalia para que se interesen en lo que estás haciendo y lleguen y espanten a las aves que estas observando. Y digo yo, ¿pero no es obvio lo que estamos haciendo y que si te acercas nos fastidias?
It is enough for the crowds to see a group of people with cameras, telescopes and other paraphernalia so that they are interested in what you are doing and arrive and scare the Birds that you are watching. And I say, but it is not obvious what we are doing and that if you approach us you annoy us?

A pesar de todo algunos machos pasaron por encima nuestro con vuelos de cortejo y cantando primorosamente. Y yo como un tonto disfrutando del momento en vez de intentar sacar fotos para que lo pudieseis ver y disfrutar. Otra vez será.
Despite all some males passed over us with courtship flights and singing exquisitely. And me like a fool enjoying the moment instead of trying to take pictures so you could see and enjoy. Maybe next time.

La verdad es que estuvieron muy cerca nuestro. 
The truth is that they were very close to us.

Un escribano montesino (Emberiza cia).
A Rock Bunting.

El siguiente punto que elegí para ver a los mirlos acuáticos europeos (Cinclus cinclus) estaba hasta la bandera. Tanto es así que tuvimos que irnos a aparcar a tres kilómetros del sitio elegido pues no cabía ni un coche más.
The next point I chose to watch the White-throated Dipper was crowded. So much so that we had to go to park three kilometers from the chosen site because there wasn't any car park left.

Gracias a Diós que cuando salimos de la furgoneta, casi sin saber donde estábamos, pasó este milano real (Milvus milvus) que atenuó el disgusto.
Thanks God that when we got out of the van, almost without knowing where we were, this Red Kite passed attenuating my displeasure.

Todo olvidado.
All forgotten.

Cuando llegamos al sitio deseado vimos este macho de gavilán común (Accipiter nisus).
When we arrived at the chosen place we saw this male Eurasian Sparrowhawk.

El aparcamiento del lugar estaba cerrado y sin un solo coche. Sin comentarios al respecto.
The parking lot was closed and without a single car. No comments about it.

Anduvimos una buena parte del río buscando a los mirlos acuáticos europeos (Cinclus cinclus) y no tuvimos suerte. Aunque no me choca pues había gente por todos los lados. Partidos de fútbol, niños tirando piedras al río, gente durmiendo la siesta bien cerquita del río y todo esto es lo que más le puede gustar a estas aves ja,ja,ja.
We walked a long part of the river looking for White-throated Dipper and we had no luck. Although it does not shock me because there were people everywhere. Football matches, children throwing stones at the river, people napping very close to the river and all this is what these Birds may like best.

Que con tanto escribir se me olvidaba comentaros que el ave que aparece en la foto es un macho de curruca capirotada (Sylvia atricapilla).
With so much writing I forgot to tell you that the Bird that appears in the photo is a male Blackcap.

Les gusta mucho comer los frutos de las hiedras (Hedera helix).
They like to eat the fruits of the Ivy.

Y enterita para adentro.
And he swallowed at once.

En nuestro largo paseo para regresar a la furgoneta vimos a este cercano buitre negro (Aegypius monachus).
On our long walk to return to the van we saw this nearby Black Vulture.

No son tan negros como la gente cree.
They are not as black as people think.

También vimos varios petirrojos europeos (Erithacus rubecula).
We also saw several European Robins.

Preciosas aves.
Beautiful Birds.

Había también una pareja de cuervos grandes (Corvus corax).
There was also a pair of Common Ravens.

Los primeros crocus que he visto este año.
First Spring Crocus I have seen this year.

Al igual que este narciso.
Like this Narcissus.

Una bonita mariposa Sofia (Issoria lathonia).
A beautiful Queen of Spain Fritillary.

Este trepador azul (Sitta europaea) nos hizo pasar un rato muy agradable.
This European Nuthatch made us spend a very nice moment.

Esta si que es su postura más típica. 
This is its most typical standing.

 Y en esta se percató de que estábamos allí.
And in this one he noticed we where there.

También había algunos agateadores europeos (Certhia brachydactyla). 
There were also some Short-toed Treecreeper.

Para aquellos que no lo hayan encontrado antes os lo he enmarcado en un círculo para que sea mas fácil encontrarlo. Son muy miméticos.
For those who have not found it before I have framed it in a circle to make it easier to find. They are very mimetic.

A este se le ve mucho mejor.
This one is seen much better.

Y por fin llegamos a la zona que no es difícil de ver a los picos menores (Dryobates minor) pero que en esta ocasión si que lo fue pues no los vimos aunque oímos un reclamo. En cuanto a la cantidad de gente más de los mismo.
And finally we reached the area in which is not difficult to see the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker but this time it was really difficult because we did not see them even though we heard one. As for the amount of people more of the same.

En la foto un macho de pico picapinos (Dendrocopos major).
In the photo a male Great Spotted Woodpecker.

El se estaba esforzando mucho en construir un nuevo nido,
He was working hard to build a new nest,

pero parecía que la hembra estaba más interesada en explorar los existentes.
but it seemed that the female was more interested in exploring the existing ones.

Había muchas cigüeñas blancas (Ciconia ciconia).
There where many White Storks.

Y para finalizar el día una vuelta por el embalse de Santillana para ver, entre otras especies a los somormujos lavancos (Podiceps cristatus) que ya están con su más bello plumaje.
And to end the day a tour of the Santillana reservoir to see, among other species, the Great Crested Grebes that are already with their most beautiful plumage.

Una pena que la falta de luz nos obligase a dar finalizada la excursión.
A pity that the lack of light forced us to finish the tour.

Próximos viajes. Next trips.

En esta ocasión os muestro dos viajes privados que realice. El primero a finales de febrero y el segundo a principios de marzo.

On this occasion I show you two private trips that you make. The first at the end of February and the second at the beginning of March.

Una vez visto las especies que cada cliente quería decidí hacer unos itinerarios en los que se podián ver la mayoría de las especies demandadas. Para ello, elegí en el primer viaje la Sierra Oeste de Madrid y Torrijos y en el segundo nuevamente la Sierra Oeste y por la tarde el Sureste de Madrid.

Once I received the species that each client wanted, I decided to make some itineraries in which most of the demanded species could be seen. To do this, I chose the Sierra Oeste of Madrid and Torrijos in the first trip and in the second, once again the Sierra Oeste and in the afternoon the Southeast of Madrid.

El tiempo fue bueno en ambas excursiones aunque en el segundo tuvimos bastante viento por la tarde.

The weather was good on both trips although in the second we had quite a bit of wind in the afternoon.

Y para bien o para mal estas son las especies que vimos en cada viaje.

And these are the species we saw on each trip.

27 de febrero:

February 27th:

Al poco rato de llegar a la zona elegido pudimos ver esta bella estampa en la que encima de un pino había una hembra de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti) y la luna se estaba poniendo. Se que es una hembra porque es una vieja amiga mía y te diré por qué un poco después.

Soon after arriving at the chosen area we could see this beautiful image in which on top of a Pine Tree there was a female Spanish Imperial Eagle and the Moon was setting. I know it is a female because she is an old friend of mine as I will tell you why a little bit after.

Para los que no la hubieseis localizado en la imagen anterior os muestro donde estaba haciendo un recorte de la foto original.

For those who had not located it in the previous image I show you where I was doing a cut of the original photo.

Poco después llego el macho y le traía una presa y se posó en una roca cerca de donde estaba.

Shortly after the male came and brought her a prey and perched on a rock near where she was.

Y comenzó a llamarla.

And he started calling her.

.

Ella acudió al instante.

She came immediately.

Y en esta foto podéis ver el porqué se trataba de mi vieja amiga. Tiene una falta de algunas plumas en el ala derecha que no se desarrollan nunca pero que a pesar de ello cría cada año y puede volar y cazar perfectamente.

And in this photo you can see why she was my old friend. She has a lack of some feathers in the right wing that never develop but that nevertheless breeds every year and can fly and hunt perfectly.

Pero nunca se debe despreciar un regalo.

But you should never not accept a present.

Y se puso a comer lo que le trajo su pareja.

And she began to eat what his partner brought her.

Cuando se lo comió, el macho me imagino que se fue a buscar mas comida pues no observamos ningún apareamiento.

When she ate it, male I imagined that he went to look for more food because we did not observe any mating.

Pero continuamos con nuestro paseo y no sabemos si hubo mas presentes y algo de sex.....

But we continue with our walk and we do not know if there were more present and some sex .....

Vimos varios escribanos montesinos (Emberiza cia).

We saw several Rock Buntings.

En esta ocasión había más buitres negros (Aegypius monachus) que leonados (Gyps fulvus). Este tenía las plumas de la cola muy desgastadas.

On this occasion there were more black vultures (Aegypius monachus) than griffons (Gyps fulvus). This one had tail feathers very worn.

Este otro mucho mejor.

This one much better.

Y este peor que el primero.

And this worse than the first.

Buitre leonado (Gyps fulvus). Subadulto con muy buen estado de sus plumas.

Griffon vulture (Gyps fulvus). Subadult with very good condition of its feathers.

También las águilas reales (Aquila chrysaetos) estaban muy nerviosas.

Also Golden Eagles were very nervous.

Tanto el macho como la hembra hacían vuelos territoriales.

Both male and female made territorial flights.

Es impresionante ver a las más grandes águilas españolas hacer esas cabriolas en vuelo.

It is impressive to see the largest of the Spanish eagles make those capers in flight.

Nos mantuvieron entretenidos y ensimismados durante largo rato.

They kept us entertained and self-absorbed for a long time.

Preciosos momentos para recordar.

Beautiful moments to remember.

Vimos una pareja de cuervos grandes (Corvus corax).

We saw a pair of Common Ravens.

Este no se que demonios llevaba en el pico.

I do not know what the hell it had in his beak.

Ya bastante pasado el mediodía almorzamos y pusimos rumbo a la zona esteparia de los alrededores de Torrijos.

Well past lunchtime we had lunch and headed to the steppe area around Torrijos.

Al poco rato de llegar vimos este bando de sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax).

Shortly after arriving we saw this flock of Little Bustards.

Es una pena el tremendo declive que está teniendo esta especie.

It is a pity the tremendous decline that this species is having.

Vimos varias especies de aláudidos. En la foto una alondra común (Alauda arvensis).

We saw several species of larks. In the photo a Sky Lark.

Abubilla europea (Upupa epops).

Eurasian Hoopoe.

Ya habían llegado a su colonia de cría los cernícalos primilla (Falco naumanni). En la foto un macho.

Lesser Kestrels had already arrived at their breeding colony. In the photo a male.

Vimos varios grupos de avutarda común (Otis tarda).

We saw several flocks of Geat Bustards.

Todos ellos eran machos ya en plumaje nupcial.

They were all males and in breeding plumage.

Y algunos hicieron la rueda aunque al estar muy lejos saque la foto con el móvil desde el telescopio terrestre. Os pido disculpas por la calidad de la imagen.

Y al final vimos un bando de 100 sisones comunes (Tetrax tetrax). Y digo cien pues me he ganado una apuesta.

And at the end we saw a flock of 100 Little Bustards. And I say a hundred because I've won a bet.

Dejarme que os diga el porqué de la apuesta. El cliente dijo 80 y yo le cometé que seguro que más que aunque yo no soy muy bueno en eso de saber cuantas aves van en un bando, por experiencia, siempre salen más de lo que uno se piensa.

Let me tell you the reason for the bet. The client said 80 and I made sure that more than even though I'm not very good at knowing how many birds go on one side, from experience, they always come out more than you think.

Al final de un breve tira y afloja decidimos que el que más se acercase al número de aves la próxima salida pagaría un cerveza. Cuando llegue a casa me faltó tiempo para ir al ordenador, corregir una de las fotos en la que salían todos y escribirle con el resultado. Increíble que acertase.

At the end of a brief discussion we decided that the one that most approached the number of Birds the next exit would pay a beer. When I got home I did not have time to go to the computer, correct one of the photos in which they were all and write the result. Amazing that it was right.

Como habréis imaginado ahora os voy a enseñar lo que vimos el segundo día que la mañana fue muy parecida a la anterior pues este cliente había elegido las mismas especies de aves rapaces pero por la tarde visitaríamos otro lugar pues las aves eran collalba negra (Oenanthe leucura) y chova piquirroja (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax).

As you have imagined now I will show you what we saw the second day that the morning was very similar to the previous one because this client had chosen the same species of Raptors but in the afternoon we would visit another place because the Birds were Black Wheatear and Red-billed Chough.

Hembra de águila imperial ibérica (Aquila adalberti), mi vieja amiga como os comentaba al comienzo del relato.

Female Spanish Imperial Eagle, my old friend as I told you at the beginning of the story.

Estuvo muy sonora pero el macho no la trajo nada en esta ocasión.

She was very vocal but the male did not bring anything this time.

Ante tanto ruido el macho decidió ir a la caza.

Faced with so much noise the male decided to go hunting.

Y ella decidió seguirle.

And she decided to follow him.

Herrerillo capuchino (Lophophanes cristatus).

Crested Tit.

Al ser mas tarde también vimos más mariposas. En la foto una Ortiguera (Aglais urticae).

Being later we also saw more Butterflies. In the photo a Small Tortoiseshell.

Y esta otra una Mariposa de los muros (Pararge aegeria).

 Speckled Wood.

Y también vimos al macho de la pareja de águilas reales (Aquila chrysaetos)  haciendo vuelos territoriales pero esta vez sin su hembra. Probablemente ya estaría incubando.

And we also saw the male of the pair of Golden Eagles making territorial flights but this time without his female. She would probably be incubating already.

Se podía apreciar que tenía un gran buche. Acabaría de comer.

You could watced that he had a big crop. He would finish eating.

Majestuosos vuelos.

Majestic flights.

Escribano montesino (Emberiza cia).

Rock Bunting.

También vimos muchos buitres, tanto leonados (Gyps fulvus) como negros (Aegypius monachus). En la foto un leonado pero ningún negro quiso posar esta vez para la cámara.

We also saw many Vultures, both Griffon and Black. The photo shows a Griffon but no Black this time wanted to pose for the camera.

Algunos estaban incubando.

Some were incubating.

Y cuando llegamos a la furgoneta para comer y luego ir a la zona sureste de Madrid para ver las otras aves este curioso trepador azul (Sitta europaea) estaba muy interesado en nuestro almuerzo.

And when we got to the van to eat and then go to the Southeast area of Madrid to see the other Birds this curious European Nuthatch was very interested in our lunch.

Ya en nuestro nuevo destino enseguida pudimos ver a un macho de collalba negra (Oenanthe leucura).

Already in our new destination we could immediately watch a male Black Wheatear.

Y a una hembra. Como podéis ver es más marrón que el macho.

And a female. As you can see it is more brown than the male.

Cuando íbamos a ver si encontrábamos a las chovas piquirrojas (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax) este macho de jilguero europeo (Carduelis carduelis) se cruzó en nuestro camino.

When we went to see if we could find some Red-billed Choughs this male European Goldfinch was in our way.

Chova piquirroja (Pyrrhocorax pyrrhocorax). Este estaba anillado pero no puedo ver el número de la anilla.

Red-billed Chough. This was ringed but I can not see the ring number.

Y aunque ya habíamos visto las aves previstas, decidimos seguir dando vueltas por los alrededores a ver si veíamos más aves. ¿Que raro, no?

And although we had already seen planned Birds, we decided to keep circling around to see if we could watch some more. How strange, is not it?

Milano real (Milvus milvus).

Red Kite.

Y muchos milanos negros (Milvus migrans). Al ver tantos y por la fecha que era decidí que se trataba, en su mayoría, de aves en paso migratorio.

And many Black Kites. Seeing so many and by the date it was I decided that it was mostly migrating Birds.

En las lagunas vimos muchas gaviotas reidoras (Chroicocephalus ridibundus). 

In the lagoons we saw many Black-headed Gulls.

Y varios somormujos lavancos (Podiceps cristatus).

And several Great Crested Grebes.

También había muchas cucharas comunes (Espatula clypeata).

There were also many Northern Shoveler.

A esta grajilla (Corvus monedula) le gustó la cámara y se quedo muy quieta para salir bien en la foto.

This Eurasian Jackdaw liked the camera and was very quiet to be pretty in the photo.

Cigüeña blanca (Ciconia ciconia).

White Stork.

Y como ya se hacía de noche decidimos dar por finalizada la jornada no sin antes sacar esta foto a una garza real (Ardea cinerea) que luchaba en contra del fuerte viento para llegar a su destino.

And as it was already going into dark we decided to end the day not without first taking this picture of a Grey Heron that was fighting against the strong wind to reach its resting place.
