En esta ocasión os muestro dos viajes que hemos realizado a los Pirineos Aragoneses. Ambos fueron de tres días de duración y el objetivo prioritario ver al quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus).

On this occasion I show you two trips we have made to the Aragonese Pyrenees. Both were three days long and the target was to watch the Lammergeier.

En ambos viajes el tiempo fue malo. 

In both trips the time was bad.

En el primero fue muy malo y nos llovió los tres días. Tanto es así que el tercer día nos fuimos a las Hoces del Río Riaza pues después de una hora esperando a ver si paraba de diluviar, y ante las malas predicciones meteorológicas, decidimos marcharnos de allí.

In the first one it was very bad and it rained all three days. So much so that the third day we went to the Gorges of the Riaza River because after an hour waiting to see if it stopped pouring, and faced with terrible weather forecast, we decided to leave there.

En el segundo las tormentas por las tardes fueron abundantes pero las mañanas no estuvieron mal.

In the second one storms in the afternoon were hard but mornings were not bad.

He separado ambos viajes para que podáis ver parte de lo que vimos en cada uno.

I have separated both trips so you can see some of what we saw in each one.

Primer viaje del 4 al 6 de junio. First trip June 4 to 6.



Nada más llegar ya pudimos contemplar al primer quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus). Un adulto que llevaba un hueso en sus garras.
Upon arrival we were able to watch the first Lammergeier. It was an adult who had a bone in its claws.


Verderón serrano (Serinus citrinella).
Citril Finch.


Rebecos pirenaicos (Rupicapra pyrenaica).
Pyrenean Chamois.


Cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus).
Common Kestrel.


Cuco común (Cuculus canorus).
Common Cuckoo.




Macho de alcaudón dorsirrojo (Lanius collurio).
Male of Red-backed Shrike.



Los paisajes son espectaculares.
Landscape is awesome.



En el segundo día acudimos a un muladar para ver a los quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus). En la foto algunos de ellos compartiendo cielo con los buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus).
On the second day we went to a feeder to watch closely the Lammergeier . In the photo some of them sharing sky with Griffon Vultures.



Los primeros en llegar fueron los buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus).
The first to arrive were the Griffon Vultures.


Y al poco rato los quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus).
And shortly after the Lammergeier.


También vino un buitre negro (Aegypius monachus). Está a la derecha del árbol seco.
It also came a Black Vulture. It is on the right side of the dry tree.

Cuando empezaron a irse los quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus) había muy poca luz por lo que las fotos son muy malas.
When Lammergeier started to leave there was very little light so the photos are very bad.





Vimos de todas las edades.
We saw all ages.



Solo vi tres marcados.
I only saw three marked.

Que maravilla poder contemplar tantos quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus).
How wonderful to watch so many Lammergeiers.




En esta foto se pueden ver siete ejemplares y un alimoche común (Neophron percnopterus).

Algunos subadultos intentaban robar huesos a los adultos.
Some sub-adults tried to steal bones from adults.




También apareció un zorro común (Vulpes vulpes).
A Red Fox also appeared.

Vimos algunos jóvenes.
We saw some juveniles.



También vimos una pareja de alcotanes europeos (Falco subbuteo).
We also saw a couple of Hobby.




Había muchas flores. En la foto una Oreja de oso (Ramonda myconi).
There were many flowers. In the photo Pyrenean-violet.



Una preciosa planta carnívora la violeta de agua (Pinguicula grandiflora).
A beautiful carnivorous plant the Large-flowered Butterwort.


Jabonera (Saponaria ocymoides).

Como ya os decía al principio la lluvia hizo que el tercer día lo dedicásemos a visitar las hoces del Riaza.
As I told you at the beginning rain made us dedicate  to visit the Riaza Gorges on the third day.


Como siempre había muchos buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) y tuvimos un día con sol y una temperatura muy agradable.
As always there were many griffon vultures (Gyps fulvus) and we had a sunny and temperate day.

Este pasó muy cerca nuestro.
This passed very close to us.

Es espectacular ver la cantidad de buitres leonados (Gyps fulvusque viven en estos roquedos.
It is spectacular to see the number of Griffon Vultures that live in these rocks.






Jilguero europeo (Carduelis carduelis).
European Goldfinch.


Mosquitero papialbo (Phylloscopus bonelli).
Western Bonelli's Warbler.



Algunos campos estaban llenos de amapolas (Papaver rhoeas).
Some fields were full of Poppies.


Macho de aguilucho cenizo (Circus pygargus).
Male of Montagu's Harrier.


Macho de tarabilla europea (Saxicola rubicola).

Segundo viaje del 11 al 13.
Second trip July 11 to 13.
Este viaje era privado y los objetivos eran fotografiar de cerca a los quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus) y las marmotas alpinas (Marmota marmota). Para estás segundas no había problema pero para los primeros decidí alquilar un hide donde se suelen ver  de cerca esta espectacular ave.
This trip was private and the targuets were to photograph closely the Lammergeier and the alpine Marmots. For this second there was no problem but for the first I decided to rent a hide where they usually see this spectacular Bird  close.


El primer día y mientras que subíamos a la zona alpina me llamaron mucho la atención los bonitos lirios azules (Iris latifolia). Estaban espectaculares.
The first day and while we climbed to the alpine area I was very struck by the beautiful English Iris. They were spectacular.

En el paseo para llegar a nuestro destino nos entretuvimos viendo plantas y mariposas.
On the walk to get to our destiny we entertained watching Plants and Butterflies.


Había varias especies de orquídeas aunque ya estaban un poco pasadas.
There were several species of orchids although they were already a little old.




Había muchas montañesa del Pirineo (Erebia gorgone).
There were many Gavarnie Ringlet.




Ninfa de Esper (Coenonympha dorus).
Dusky Heath.


Rosa silvestre (Rosa canina).
Dog Rose.


Perdiguera (Helianthemum nummularium).
Sun Rose.


Hacía poco que había nacido un ternero y los buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) estaban muy pendientes de él. Al final la madre les espanto.
A calf had recently been born and the Griffon Vultures were too much aware of him. In the end the mother frightened them.


Y cuando estábamos llegando al sitio elegido se desató una tormenta de rayos y truenos que hizo que tuviésemos que salir por pies. En la foto un escribano cerillo (Emberiza citrinella).
And when we were arriving at the chosen place, a storm of lightning and thunder broke out that made us to return very quicly to the van. In the photo a Yellowhammer.


El segundo día lo pasamos, hasta media tarde. en el hide de carroñeras.
The second day was spent, until mid-afternoon, in the hide for Carrion Birds.

Aunque he subido muchas fotos al blog, solo son unas pocas de las más de 1.000 que saque. Espero que la selección sea de vuestro agrado.
Although I have uploaded many photos to the post, they are just a few of the more than 1,000 that I take. I hope the selection is to your liking.

También acudieron muchos milanos negros (Milvus migrans).
Many Black Kites also came.


Al igual que ocurrió con los alimoches comunes (Neophron percnopterus).
As it happened with the Egyptian Vultures.

Menos numerosos que los milanos negros (Milvus migrans) fueron los milanos reales (Milvus milvus).
Less numerous than the Black Kites were the Red Kites.








También había algunos cuervos grandes (Corvus corax).
There were also some Common Raven.












Este alimoche común estaba marcado con la anilla cerrada blanca número 7 P.
This Egyptian vulture was marked with the white closed ring number 7 P.

Y más milanos negros (Milvus migrans).
And some more Black Kites.



Como estaba previsto, pusieron dos veces de comer.
As planned they put food twice.


Impresionante.

Los quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatusse hacían de rogar.
Lammergeier were delayed.



Un zorro común (Vulpes vulpes) vino a recoger comida.
A Red Fox  came to pick up some food.



Y de repente vimos una sombra que resulto ser un bonito adulto de quebrantahuesos (Gypaetus barbatus).
And suddenly we saw a shadow that turned out to be a beautiful adult of Lammergeier.



Solo fue una pasada pero no se posó.
It just a pass away but it did not land.

Como había visto la comida decidimos continuar esperando más tiempo a ver si la suerte nos acompañaba.
As it had seen food, we decided to continue waiting for some more time to see if luck was with us.

Mientras esperábamos seguíamos sacando fotos. Este milano negro (Milvus migrans) estuvo mucho tiempo y nos sirvió de entretenimiento.
While we were waiting we were still taking photos. This Black Kite was a long time on the feeder and it kept us amused.




Y cuando todo estaba en calma y ya habían pasado 45 minutos desde que le habíamos visto por primera vez, volvió a aparecer.
And when everything was calm and it had passed 45 minutes since we had seen it for the first time, he reappeared.



Que belleza de ave. Esta vez si venia a posarse.
What a beautiful Bird. This time it was coming to land.
















Tantas fotos tomé que cuando justo estaba aterrizando tenia el buffer lleno. 😱😱😱😱
So many pictures I took that when it was just landing I had my full buffer. 😱😱😱😱



De todos modos es espectacular tener uno tan cerca.
Anyway it is spectacular to have one so close.



Impresiona ver el tamaño de los huesos que se puede tragar.
It is awesome to see the size of the bones that it can swallow.










Y ahora otro. En total se comió dos y luego nos dejó.
And now another one. In total it ate two and then it went.




De cualquier manera a mi, personalmente, prefiero tomar fotos en la naturaleza pues una buena foto de ese modo tiene mucha más emoción y pericia.
Anyway, personally, I prefer to take pictures in nature because a good photo in that way has much more emotion and expertise.


Por la tarde decidimos dar un paseo. Había cascadas por todos los lados aunque no me extraña con lo que estaba lloviendo.
In the afternoon we decided to take a walk. There were waterfalls every where although I was not surprised as it was reining all over.

Había una pareja de lavandera cascadeña (Motacilla cinerea) muy ocupadas llevando comida a sus polluelos. En la foto el macho.
There was a pair of Grey Wagtail very busy taking food to their chicks. In the photo the male.

El tercer día subimos a ver las marmotas alpinas (Marmota marmota) y en el camino vimos a este escribano montesino (Emberiza cia).
Third day we went up to see the alpine marmots  and on the way we saw this Rock Bunting.


Y enseguida se dejaron ver.
And soon they show up.

Mientras buscábamos un buen sitio para fotografiar a las marmotas alpinas (Marmota marmota), esta collalba gris (Oenanthe oenanthe) macho y su prole nos llamaron la atención.
While we were looking for a good place to photograph alpine marmots, this Northern Wheatear male and his offspring caught our eyes.

Había muchas marmotas alpinas (Marmota marmota).
There were many Alpine Marmots.






Estos jóvenes no paraban de jugar.
These juveniles did not stop playing.

And now some adults.



Que bonitas son.

Vimos una pareja de verderones serranos (Serinus citrinella). En la imagen el macho.
We saw a pair of Citril Finches. Pictured the male.

Las corona de rey (Saxifraga longifolia) estaban impresionantes.
