Próximos viajes. Next trips.

This time I show you some of the birds seen on a trip to the lagoons of Villafáfila.

Although the lagoons had almost no water, there were plenty Greylag Geese but very few ducks because they did not have water to protect themselves.

Weather was very good and sun was present throughout the day.

Había bastantes milanos reales (Milvus milvus).
There were quite a few Red Kites.

Bisbita pratense (Anthus pratensis).
Meadow Pipit.

Cogujada común (Galerida cristata).
Crested Lark.

También vimos muchas alondras comunes (Alauda arvensis).
We also saw many Skylarks.

Of all the Common Buzzards we saw, this one was the most trusted.

These Common Teals were among the few ducks we saw due to scarce water in the lagoons.

Estornino pinto (Sturnus vulgaris).
Common Starling.

As expected there were many Great Bustards.

This was the only pair of Black-bellied Sandgrouses we saw.

El macho está en la izquierda.
Male is on left side.

We saw several flocks of Red-legged Partridges and one of them very numerous because there were more than 20 specimens together.

Tarros blancos (Tadorna tadorna).
Common Shelducks.

As I told you before, and despite the few water collected in the lagoons, there were many Greylag Geese.

I like very much to see the tumbles they make when they return from the fields to the lagoons.

Al medio día unos venían a beber y bañarse.
At noon some came to drink and bathe.

And others were coming back to eat at the crop fields.

Corneja negra (Corvus corone).
Carrion Crow.

Grajillas occidentales (Corvus monedula).
Western Jackdaws.

Cuervo grande (Corvus corax).
Common Raven.

There were also more Common Cranes than in previous years.

The bird on the right is a juvenile of Hen Harrier and the one on the left is a Red Kite.

That gray spot in the middle of the photo is an adult male of Hen Harrier who was eating a prey.

There were less Northern Lapwings than in other years.

Macho de aguilucho lagunero occidental (Circus aeruginosus).
Male of Eurasian Marsh Harrier.

Joven.
Juvenile.

Las maravillosas avutardas comunes (Otis tarda).
The wonderful Great bustards.

Cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus).
Common Kestrel.

It always amazes me to see how easily these heavy birds fly. Males can reach weights up to 19 kilograms.

El aterrizaje de una de ellas.
Landing of one of them.

Bien hecho.
Well done.

Esmerejón (Falco columbarius).
Merlin.

Escribano triguero (Miliaria calandra).
Corn Bunting.

And at dusk we went to see how Greylag Geese and Common Cranes were returning to the lagoons.

Todo un espectáculo de color y sonido.
A whole show of color and sound.
