Pajareando por Asturias. Birding Asturias, Spain.

Hola otra vez.
Hello again.

In early April I had to make a trip with my family to Gijón, Asturias. Taking this opportunity and as usual I found some time for my hobby.

To remember old times, because I grew up in Asturias, I decided to follow the itinerary that I do whenever I have the chance to go. The first visit was to the Parque de Isabel La Católica. I had read that a couple of Otters had discovered this place full of waterfowl and they killed large numbers of them. Today the lakes are like a prison and is unpleasant to see the birds almost caged.

When I was walking to the Park I found in the River Piles with these two males of Red-crested Pochards.

Que bonitos y mansos estaban.
What beautiful and tame they were.

Already in the Park what I liked most was to see and enjoy some Common Kingfishers. I saw only a female and was more distrustful than males.

Afterwards I decided to take a walk on the beach to see if there was any Purple Sandpiper because I have few opportunities to observe it.

There were many Turnstone but no trace of the Sandpipers.

Andarríos chico (Actitis hypoleucos).
Common Sandpiper.

I continued walking just in case I could watch the Purple Sandpiper and at the end perseverance paid off and I was very happy to be able to watch them.
