ESTEPARIAS EN TOLEDO, ESPAÑA. SPAIN STEPPE BIRDS AT TOLEDO.

Hola de nuevo.
Hi again.

On this occasion I show you a trip to Toledo to see Steppe Birds that I made accompanied by some customers on Wednesday January 21st.

There are Birds that I love but are difficult to spot and much more at this time of year because of the hunting pressure they are especially elusive.

The day began with a thick fog and then the sun came out but it was very cold because wind blow with intensity and the thermometer did not exceed 5 ° C.

The first Birds seen where a flock of Black-bellied Sandgrouses but very far to photograph them.

Soon we saw three groups of Pin-tailed Sandgrouses that were fairly close  to each other.

After a good time enjoying them a Red kite came and put them all in flight.

También vimos varias alcaudones reales meridionales (Lanius meridionalis).
We also saw several Southern Grey Shrikes.

Although more scarce than other times, we saw three flocks of Great Bustards.

Un macho de aguilucho pálido (Circus cyaneus).
A male of Hen Harrier.

Y en esta otra una hembra.
And in this one a female.

Vimos varios grupos de gorriones morunos (Passer hispaniolensis). En la foto un macho.
We saw several groups of Spanish Sparrows. In the picture a male.

Otro.
Another one.

We also saw several groups of Red-legged Partridges.

The first two Little Bustards we saw.

There was a couple of European Hares who entertained us a while with their courtship fights.

Abundaban las avefrías europeas (Vanellus vanellus).
There were plenty of Northern Lapwings.

Another group of Pin-tailed Sandgrouses. The mimetism of Sandgrouses is amazing and we discover them because these came flying and landed at quite a distance but the camera of 1200mm. sometimes surprises me as is this case.

There were two males and three females. It took me a while to find them with the camera viewfinder but the result is very satisfactory considering the distance at which they were.

Otro grupo.
Another group.

We saw many Sky Larks, quite a few Crested Larks and only some Calandra Larks. In the pic a Sky Lark.

And when we were ready to return to Madrid we saw this beautiful and nourished flock of Little Bustard flying.

They were flying about half an hour for our enjoyment.

And at the end luck was with us and they landed not far from where we were.

I hope you liked this post because we enjoyed this great day of birding.
