Hi again.

Esta vez os muestro una visita a la Laguna de Gallocanta de dos días a finales de noviembre. El censo de grullas comunes (Grus grus) del día anterior a nuestra llegada arrojaba la cifra nada despreciable de 23.000 individuos. El objetivo principal del viaje era ver la llegada de las grullas al atardecer y su salida al amanecer.

This time I show you a visit to the Gallocanta Lagoon of two days in late November. The census of Common Cranes the day before arrival threw the not inconsiderable figure of 23,000 Birds. The main purpose of the trip was to see the arrival of the cranes at dusk and its departure at dawn.

Aunque las previsiones meteorológicas no eran muy buenas el sol salio tanto al atardecer como al amanecer. Además no hacia viento lo que nos permitió pasar unos momentos inolvidables con las ruidosas grullas. Es la vez que he ido a Gallocanta que he pasado menos frío.

Although the weather forecasts were not very good the sun came out both at sunset and sunrise. In addition there was no wind thus allowing us to spend unforgettable moments with the noisy Common Cranes. It's the time I've gone to Gallocanta that I've spent less cold.

Como había tantas, estuvimos muy entretenidos durante todo el rato de nuestra excursión.

As there were so many, we were very entertained the whole time of our tour.

Poco más me queda por añadir a esta inolvidable excursión dejándoos con las imágenes tomadas para que paséis un rato entretenido aunque sea imposible plasmar en un blog la experiencia vivida.

DÍA PRIMERO:

FIRST DAY:

Llegamos sobre las 11.30 y desde el primer momento comenzamos a ver bandos de grullas comunes (Grus grus) por todos los lugares cercanos a la Laguna.

We arrived around 11.30 am and from the first moment we started to see flocks of Common Cranes for all places close to the Lagoon.

A pesar de la poca agua que albergaba la Laguna pudimos ver algunos bandos de tarros blancos (Tadorna tadorna). También había algunos combatientes (Philomachus pugnax), una Avoceta (Recurvirostra avosetta), anades azulones (Anas platyrhynchos), cercetas comunes (Anas crecca) y unos correlimos que me imagino que serían comunes (Calidris alpina) pero que a pesar de mirarlos con el telescopio terrestre estaban tan lejos que no pude identificarlos con total seguridad.

Despite the few water that housed the Lagoon we could see some Common Shelducks. There were also some Ruffs, an Avocet, mallards, common teals and som limicolae which I imagine would be Dunlins but despite we watched them with the telescope they were so far that I could not identify with confidence.

Por los campos se podían ver bastantes pardillos comunes (Carduelis cannabina). También observamos jilgueros europeos (Carduelis carduelis), verderones comunes (Carduelis chloris), verdecillos (Serinus serinus) y pinzones vulgares (Fringilla coelebs).

By the fields could be seen quite Linnets. We also observe European Goldfinches, Greenfinches, European Serins and Common Chaffinches.

Y las grullas que no paraban de ir de un lado a otro en busca de alimento.

And the cranes that kept going from one place to another in search of food.

Había bastantes Busardo ratoneros (Buteo buteo). También vimos aguiluchos laguneros occidentales (Circus aeruginosus), aguiluchos pálidos (Circus cyaneus) y milanos reales (Milvus milvus).

There were several Common Buzzard. We also saw Eurasian Marsh Harriers, Hen harriers and red kites.

También vimos algunos buitres leonados (Gyps fulvus) y un águila real (Aquila chrysaetos).

We could also see some Griffon Vultures and a Golden Eagle.

Nunca había visto una concentración tan grande de gorriones chillones (Petronia petronia).

Never seen such a big concentration of Rock Sparrows.

Cogujada común (Galerida cristata).

Crested Lark.

Cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus).

Common Kestrel.

Otro busardo ratonero (Buteo buteo).

Another Common Buzzard.

Ya al atardecer pudimos disfrutar del sol y un atardecer inolvidable aunque la mayoría de las grullas entraron bastante tarde y no pude sacarles fotos por falta de luz. En la foto el pueblo de Gallocanta.

We could already enjoy the sun at sunset and we have an unforgettable sunset while most of the cranes came quite late and I could not take pictures because of darkness. Pictured Gallocanta village.

Este cernícalo vulgar (Falco tinnunculus) estaba cerniéndose bastante tarde mientras que los búhos campestres (Asio flammeus) ya habían salido de caza.

This Common Kestrel was hovering quite late while the Short-eared Owls had gone to hunt.

DÍA DOS: 7:10 DE LA MAÑANA.

SECOND DAY: 7:10 AM.

Llegamos antes de que las grullas comunes (Grus grus) comenzasen a salir a los campos.

We arrived before the Common Cranes  began to leave to the fields.

Y después de un magnífico desayuno nos dispusimos a seguir disfrutando de la compañía de las grullas comunes (Grus grus).

And after a great breakfast we got ready to continue enjoying the company of the Common Cranes.
